1. Tom Ford Spanish Pink Lipstick
Spanish Pink es el perfecto opaque warm pink, because it isn’t too nude or too pink. It’s just right, and I love it with outrageous, bright eye looks, in particular.
2. Claus Porto Hand Cream
Hand creams everywhere, in every room, all the time!!
I have one my desk, in every room, next to every sink, tucked away in side drawers… Seriously, they’re everywhere.
Sometimes I forget to put on lotion after I wash my hands (which I do a ton), so lately I’ve been literally assaulting myself with hand lotion around every corner.
My latest loves are these tubes from Portuguese beauty brand Claus Porto, which are $20 each.
Most of them are citrusy, and when I wear them, I feel like I’m lounging under an orange tree on a sunny day in Lisboa.
3. Trader Joe’s Supersweet Dried Carabao Mangoes
These totally taste like my youth. I grew up eating dried mangoes all the time, but those had sugar added to them, and these don’t, which I like better now.
4. Applying blush on top of highlighter
I kind of forgot about this trick for a while, but it’s a good way to wear some shimmer without it being too much.
5. I can’t believe I’m saying this out loud, but Icy Hot!!
HIIT class was brutal this week, and I’ve been so exhausted and sore that when I get home at night, I’ve been busting out the Icy Hot before bed.
This was a real conversation between me and El Hub:
EL HUB: Something smells good!
ME: Are you kidding me?
EL HUB: No, it smells good, like peppermint candy! What is it?
ME: Icy Hot…
EL HUB: Wow… Really?
Welcome to married life, LOL! 🙂
What are some things you’ve been loving lately?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
LindaLibraLoca says
I had to google Icy Hot, but yes, that is married life.
Karen says
Ha! It so is, right? Have a great weekend!
Jennifer says
First, I really need that lipstick. It looks perfect. I have a bunch of pink lipsticks but none of them are a perfect pink. You know what I’m saying?
Also, I need more hand creams. The older I get the more paranoid I become about catching germs from other people so I am relentless about washing my hands every time I use the bathroom and before I put something in my mouth with my hands. As a result, they are super dry.
Try the Target brand of pain relieving cream. I think it works just as well and it’s odorless. I also like Arnica cream for sore muscles.
Totally loving Tarte’s Brighter Days Highlighting Moisturizer. My face looks fabulous when I put this on over my foundation. I’m not sure why Tarte is calling it a moisturizer. It doesn’t work for me as a moisturizer but I love it as an overall brightener. If I used enough to moisturize my face I would be sparkly as a unicorn.
Karen says
Thank you for the Target rec! I’m stopping by today to get 1) lasagna noodles, 2) a baby toothbrush and 2) the roasted chickpeas Katie mentioned above. I’m looking forward to putting that cream mah feet, you don’t even know!
What are you up to this weekend? Anything fun?
Holly says
Hi Karen–that lipstick, tho! Very flattering and you’re right about it paring great with more colorful eyes.
First on my list are the $1 sheet masks I discovered at the Korean market. They’re not from some well known brand (that I know of) but I love how they deep moisturize and even better, I love the price!
I’ve also been loving spending time with my three year old niece. When her older sister is at school, the little one and I sometimes run errands. She talks non-stop and she’s hilarious! She told me the other day that she was going to tattletale on me and when I asked her why, she said it was because I was a weirdo. This coming from someone who thought Watermelon Nacho was a good name for her sister.
The third thing I’ve been loving is my new phone as the camera is SO much better than my previous one! It’s 13 megapixels and can actually focus at different lengths so my pictures are crisp.
Crunchy almond butter is my go-to protein right now. I prefer it over peanut butter even if it is more expensive. I pair it with the strawberry freezer jam I made last summer and it makes me very happy.
The last thing on my list is the Pretty Petals highlighter from Wet’n’Wild. I have received a few compliments since I started wearing it this last month and for being so inexpensive, I think it does an amazing job!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and that Connor has a fantastic birthday party!
Karen says
Hi Holly,
Your niece sounds like a character. Ya know what? I think Watermelon Nacho would be a great name for a cat. 🙂
What phone did you get? I’m thinking of upgrading mine soon.
Holly says
It’s a LG Aristo. I’ve never had an iPhone, just LG phones, so I don’t have a comparison. I hope you find one you love! ❤
Karen says
Thank you! I haven’t tried anything other than an iPhone, but I still plan to look around. Glad to hear you’re enjoying the camera! It’s so fun to be able to capture the world around you on the fly with your phone, isn’t it?
Holly says
*pairing, not “paring” (silly me!)
Amy says
The last time my husband told me I smelled good, it was thermal protective prep spray I put on my hair. Lol.
Karen says
Isn’t that funny? Forget the fancy perfume. It’s all about sore muscle creams and thermal prep sprays. 🙂
Rachel says
Lol who needs expensive perfume when you have icy hot! I miss TJs dried mangoes! The only ones I can find here are sweetened, boo. One thing I’ve been loving is Chrissy Teigen’s cookbook. I borrowed it from the library and it has lots of comfort food recipes and one for a veggie chili that I’m definitely gonna try!
Karen says
Seriously, though! The scent of seduction smells like menthol. HAHA!
I collect cookbooks and don’t have Chrissy’s yet. What other recipes do you have bookmarked?
Happy Friday!
Rachel says
Her tuna casserole is basically the same as mine except she adds fresh jalapeño and crushed jalapeño potato chips on top, need to try it!
Karen says
Yum! Ya know, sometimes tuna casserole totally hits the spot. I bet the bit of heat takes it to the next level, too!
Chris25 says
I’ve been loving the Too Faced Semi Sweet palette, my new Vinnie Day leaf earrings, soapmaking videos (I will start soapmaking soon!), Sephora gel concealer, and poached chicken.
Yes, I said poached chicken. No, I am not possessed. 😛
I’ve been kinda dieting lately because I need to lose weight. Poaching
chicken in a pot of water simmered with minced garlic, herbs and bay leaves is not as bland as one might think. The chicken actually does have a lot of flavor and most of the fat gets boiled off.
Karen says
I bet your chicken is great in a salad, Chris!
Happy weekend. 🙂
Katie says
I like to do my highlight first, and then blush and bronzer on top of that too! I think it helps avoid the stripe of shimmer effect.
1. Tom Ford Sable Smoke lipstick. By far my favorite lipstick, it’s got enough color to wear with neutral eye looks and it’s pale enough on me to be a nude for smoky eyes (I’m an NC10 for reference)! It’s like that perfect Brigitte Bardot peachy nude. My only problem is that it seems to be melting a bit and squishing all over the inside of the tube.
2. Harry Josh marcel 1 inch curling iron. I got it as a Christmas gift and I love it! You can detach the clip to use it as a wand, but I usually use it clip-on. I was afraid the marcel style would be hard to get used to, but once you figure out how to hold your hands, it’s a breeze! I actually prefer it because with spring irons, I often get hair caught in the spring. The barrel heats really evenly up and down the length, and it heats up super quickly (just a few seconds). Plus, it’s got a ton of temperature settings!
3. Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor mud mask. I’ve gotten and used about 5 deluxe samples of this over the years! I love it because it’s both detoxifying/decongesting AND hydrating. Usually, if I use a mud mask, I have to follow it with an intense hydrating mask because it strips my skin, but this is like a 2-in-one. I finally broke down and bought it on sale on Amazon with a birthday gift card.
4. These roasted chickpeas I found at Target. I think the brand name is Biena? Anyway they have a ranch flavor that tastes EXACTLY like Cool Ranch Doritos, except not bad for you. Plus, super duper crunchy.
5. Blush. Not one particular shade, just blush in general. I used to avoid using it because I have a lot of irritation and redness in my skin and I didn’t want to emphasize it, but I now realize that after neutralizing the redness with foundation, I need a little something to bring me back to life! Now it’s my favorite step and product. The right shade of blush can make you look more awake, more alive. I think it’s seriously underrated! I’m hoping to try Glossier’s new cream blush soon.
Karen says
Hi Katie,
I’m an NC42 and adore Tom Ford Sable Smoke too. It’s one of my favorite things from the entire line. 🙂
Thanks for the heads up on the roasted chickpeas. I gotta stop by Target to get a baby toothbrush. Gonna put them on my list! What aisle did you find them in?
Katie says
I found the chickpeas in the snacks aisle, next to all the “healthy” snacks like dried fruits and stuff! Just down the aisle from chips.
I think Sable Smoke is one of those rare shades that works for pretty much everyone. Tom Ford seems to have a lot of those in his lipsticks!
Karen says
OK, cool. Hopefully I can find it when I’m there. I have a bunch of cans of chickpeas because I planned a few weeks back to roast them but ya know… If I can just buy them at Target, why the heck not? LOL
The thing I love about Sable Smoke is how opaque it is, but yet it’s not thick or heavy looking. I also love that it’s light but not too light! I’m so glad to find someone who is equally obsessed with it because it’s SUCH a great color.
Eleni says
I love Spanish Pink on you! Looks really really lovely and will check it out next time I’m at a TF counter 🙂
As for married life, yes, that’s it for sure..!
Things i’m loving these days? The Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base makes my skin so soft thatI’m addicted I think. The Dolce&Gabbana cream shadows too, have been wearing Sahara almost whenever I had a chance!
Have a good weekend!
Karen says
Hi Eleni,
Thank you! Spanish Pink is a beautiful color; thank goodness it’s in the permanent line.
Speaking of Dolce & Gabbana, do you have their Desert quad? It’s a must have.
Have a great weekend!
Tatiana says
If Icy-Hot smelled like vanilla my husband would love it. Or if they added a hint of chocolate to the smell so it smelled like a York Peppermint patty. Lol.
I’m having a hard time moving after my workout this morning, so I totally understand how you feel.
Spanish Pink, Indian Rose and Casablanca are three of my favorites from TF main collection. I’m afraid to admit that I have a Muji drawer and a few more just of Tom Ford lipsticks. I’ve been loving the sample I got of Giorgio Armani’s Crema Nuda in #2. Man oh man! Why do I always fall in love with the expensive stuff. Not sure I’m going to spring for this one, even though it makes my skin look gorgeous.
Hope you have a good weekend.
Karen says
I just realized I don’t have Indian Rose and I need to rectify that ASAP.
Guurl. I’ve oogled that cream for ages but have purposefully stayed away because I know I’ll just fall in love!
What are you doing this weekend? We have Connor’s bday celebration tomorrow, which should be fun.
Tatiana says
Yeah!! Happy Birthday to Connor! I hope she has a happy day filled with smiles, hugs, kitties (well maybe just Tabs), her adoring family and some good presents! Are you going to do a cake with frosting? That was thing in my family, no sugar the whole first year then on the first birthday a cake with a candle and the birthday child got to stick their hands and everything into that cake!
I think Dear Husband got tickets to a lot of the movies in the Cinequest film festival, so I think we’ll be seeing those. There’s one tonight at 9:30, but I can barely keep my eyes open now after this morning’s workout, so I’ll probably just crash in front of the TV.
I’m hoping Dear Daughter comes by. She’s had 6 or 7 dates with the same guy and I like hearing about them. It sounds like it’s becoming a thing and so far he sounds really nice guy.
bella says
First Happy Birthday to Connor! I can’t believe she is already a year old.
I have been reading your blog for years, and I think the TF Spanish Pink is the most gorgeous color on you!
I have been loving Child perfume! It has been sunny in SF and Child always reminds me of summer! Also, I went in to Sephora and got a sample of the new Urban Decay blurring primer, (it’s the pink one), and I love it. Also been loving the Mac frost lipstick from the Mariah Carey collection ( I am so ’90’s). It lightens every lipstick and gives a nice metallic/pearl sheen to any color!
Erin says
1. Trader Joes Enchiladas… HOLY CRAP… these new ones they carry by the salads are amazeballs. I prefer the Rojo ones, which is odd as I never like red sauce, but these are so delicious it’s criminal. Vegetarian too! My new meatless Monday staple.
2. Alba body lotion; the maximum moisture formula has acids in it and it’s something both me and my husband can use. He’s home now, so anything I can buy in bulk we both can use is a hit.
3. Gordon Ramsay’s youtube channel. Trying to reinvigorate my cooking game.
4. My husband is over the moon for Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensee. I’ve been loving it too, but it seems to have some level of aphrodisiac powers.
5. Words With Friends, I play all the time but it’s been nice lately to play with new people who are more challenging.
