1. Cat Lover’s Pad
The cover says it all. “100 Sheets of Cats Cats Cats!” ? ? ? First of all, it’s a lined notebook, and each page has a different illustration of adorable kitties in all their glorious shapes, sizes and colors.
It’s become my go-to notebook for short lists, which is saying something because you know I love lists!
2. Schitt’s Creek
Friends raved about this Netflix show. Heck, EVERYONE seemed to rave about this show and its ensemble cast, but something about it didn’t fire me up for a long time. I watched the first episode about a year ago and thought, “Eh…” and dismissed it. I thought the main characters were, well…kinda self-entitled and not very likeable, but I gave it another try a couple weeks ago, and wow! — I’m so glad I did because I’m fully onboard now.
There’s a lot more to it than I thought. At a surface level, it’s a comedy about an obscenely wealthy family that suddenly loses their fortune and are forced to relocate to a small rural town named Schitt’s Creek.
It’s one of those shows that just gets better and better as the characters develop over time, and you get the sense that the family members learn to appreciate each other and what they have so much more. I’ve laughed and cried more times than I can count. Plus, the styling and makeup (more on this in a second) are incredible.
3. Lucky Bromhead
She’s an Emmy-nominated makeup artist, and she did (and still does) the makeup for key cast members on Schitt’s Creek. She’s the one responsible for Moira’s killer red lips and smoky eyes, and Alexis’s casual-but-chic boho vibes. Love her work!
4. The Farmhouse collection from Crate & Barrel
I got some dishes, bowls and mugs from the Farmhouse collection at Crate & Barrel to replace all of the random, mismatched dishes in my kitchen, and I love, love, LOVE them. Each piece has some heft to it and feels sturdy, and the soft cream color and lines give the pieces a warm and casual vibe.
The Farmhouse collection is one of Crate & Barrel’s open stock lines, meaning that you can just roll up to the store and buy a single plate or mug at any time.
This is GREAT for our family because El Hub is pretty much the destroyer of all dishes, mugs and bowls. HE BREAKS EVERYTHING. I seriously cannot fathom how because I’ve only broken one or two dishes in my entire life!
SIGH.
All I know is that now, whenever he inevitably breaks one of my new dishes, I will always be able to replace it. ?
5. This 30-minute spin class…
By the time I was done with this home spinning workout, I was dripping in sweat, but dang if I didn’t feel great. The instructor is fantastic! She does a bang-up job of keeping you motivated, and I also get the sense that she’s working just as hard, too. There are a few ads throughout the class…which normally annoys me, but they happened at times when I was gasping for air and actually didn’t mind having the extra time to recover.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. TGIF! ✨

Hi Karen! I felt the same way about Schitt’s Creek. Took me forever to get into it and kept thinking “and people rave about this show?” But finally I got sucked in and am now watching it again for the second time. The growth of David and Alexis especially is so heartwarming. Don’t forget to watch the ‘behind the scenes’ special also on Netflix. Happy Friday and have a great weekend! Love your blog !!!

Hi Faith Ann,
I’m just about to finish the fourth season and OH MY GOSH. Seriously, I’ve already cried a bunch of times! I’m thinking about re-watching it before moving on to season five.
Thanks for the heads up on the behind the scenes special! I’ll put it on my to-watch list. Happy, happy Friday to you!

When can you come and organize my house? HAHA! Actually, the only organized areas are the cupboards and closets (that no one sees). I think your racks to split the shelves are genius, btw. I have a lot of nesting pyrex and am going to reconsider that. Oh, I hear you on the bike classes. I’m only able to do the half hour ones at this point and am definitely gasping (or having to sit). Hopefully I’ll see some results because they’re kicking my butt!
PS Glad you said that about Schitt’s Creek. We started watching before the holidays and kept saying “one more ep and, if it’s not better, we’re done”. I thought it improved, too. But we only stuck with it halfway through the first season. Should we try again? When did you think it turned the corner? I know everyone’s sense of humor is different but I’m just wondering what you thought. 🙂

Oh, I got those from The Container Store! It’s called The Large Expanding Shelf and is about the best thing ever. Get them, they’ll change your life!
If you find any good spin classes please let me know, and I’ll do the same. 🙂
OK, so for Schitt’s Creek, it took me a while to get into it. I’d say that I really fell in love during the second and third season. I’m watching the fourth season right now and seriously, I’ve cried about 5 times! IT’S SO GOOD. I’m actually thinking about re-watching the fourth season before I move onto the fifth one. The main reason why I started watching it was because I’ve been needing something easy and not stressful at night that wasn’t too long so that I could actually get into bed on time. If you can stick with it I would give it another try. It’s definitely one of those shows that’s like a slow burn and finds its feet the deeper it goes.

Thank you!! I think I really need those shelves in my life! And I will definitely keep watching Schitt’s Creek, then. I hear you – I like to have at least one “light” show or series ready to go. 🙂 Yes! I’ll totally let you know – I branched out to a 45 minute Intermediate class on Saturday. I think I need to dial it back down to 30 minute Beginner for a bit longer. My right leg was SO sore. It’s hard to get old. HAHA!
Karen says
Oooh, where did you find this class? I need a 45-minute one in the mix!
BTW I learned recently that if you initiate the pedal stroke using your hip/booty you can get more oomph. Try it!

Schitt’s Creek is the shit!! I love this show so much!! It’s the little Canadian show that took the world by storm. Great cast, funny stories–an all around win!

Me too! Officially obsessed!

These Canadian comedies — like Kim’s Convenience and Schitt’s Creek are the best! Need more recommendations !!!! These days I definitely need something short and light hearted.

I love, love, LOVE Kim’s Convenience, too! If I find any more good ones I’ll definitely let you know. 🙂
