1. The purples in the new Urban Decay Ultraviolet Palette!
I shall embark upon wearing each and every one of the purples in this $49 palette, which is out now with 12 powder eyeshadows, as smoky liners along my upper lash line, coupled with one of the matte neutrals on my lids. ?
2. Maxi dresses
Stay cool and fashionable! Plus, there’s something freeing about your legs and booty enjoying the occasional light breeze. *shrugs* ?♀️
I have become so committed to maxi dresses lately that I got two of these Loveappella V-Neck maxis (the coral and navy) with the Nordstrom gift card I had squirreled away forever. Added bonuses: they’re currently on sale and available in petite sizes.
3. Hall and Oates
I have a (conspiracy) theory that Hall and Oates were secretly dating… Anywho! I’ve been listening to their older stuff a lot lately while I cook dinner.
Here are some classic jams to get you started, in case you haven’t heard of them before, and if that’s the case…BLASPHEMY!
You Make My Dreams
Out of Touch
She’s Gone
Rich Girl
4. Honest Beauty Liquid Lipstick in BFF
What can I say? Old habits die hard, so while I wear a mask, I still 1) smile ? at strangers, and 2) wear ? lipstick. One I love is BFF by Honest Beauty. It’s a nude matte that doesn’t move, so when I have my mask on, it doesn’t transfer. Plus, the nude color is super pretty.
5. The Titan Games
This show pits fitness enthusiasts/everyday people against professional athletes in a crazy hard obstacle course race, and it’s hosted by Maui from Moana, a.k.a. the Rock, a.k.a. Dwayne Johnson.
It may sound cheesy, but it’s shockingly engrossing! Highly recommended! Every time our family watches it, we cheer (scream, really!) for the regular guys and gals.
***Warning: don’t be surprised if you formulate a plan to improve your wimpy grip strength after the first episode.***
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. What have you been loving lately? ?
Rachel says
I am seriously considering getting that Urban Decay palette, I love purples! My best friend played “You Make My Dreams Come True” as her exit song at her wedding, it was so cute!
Karen says
I like that there’s a variety of purple in this palette! That darkest one should be a beautiful liner.
How’s your day going? It’s mellow here today. Connor just finished a Zoom dance class and now I’m catching up!
Rachel says
Waiting for the workday to be over! Tomorrow is my Friday then we are going to my boyfriend’s dads’ lake place. Super excited to get away from work for a while! We had a crazy thunderstorm with almost 3 inches of rain last night, now it’s heating up again outside.
Karen says
Have sooo much at the lake! I hope that you’ll be able to get in the water!
Jennifer Emmett says
The employees at Ulta were just talking about the purples. This is the thirst, er, first time I’ve seen it. Wow. I like that they added the complementary colors. I really like the shades!
Karen says
I like them too! I’m going to play with the purples today with a wet angled brush.
Did you grab anything at Ulta?
Jennifer Emmett says
But of course! A new stash of cotton pads, Starr gloss by Buxom and the Punked palette by Smashbox (which I totally dig!)
Karen says
Fun! Buxom makes some lovely glosses. I gotta dig mine out!
Jennifer Baird says
Those maxi dresses are so cute! And Petite size! I am 5’5 however I have a short inseam so a normal maxi dress on me is 8 miles long lol.
The purple urban decay palette how did they know I love purple! I may have to splurge and get it (I am trying not to buy makeup right now, notice I said trying not too LOL).
YES! Hall and Oats! They were my jam. I love 80’s music, it makes my heart happy.
Karen says
YES! If I find any other petite sizes I’ll let you know. I’m on a maxi dress kick right now!
kellly says
I’m totally with you on the dresses. I used to live in south Texas and summers were so hot and humid, the only thing I ever wore were long skirts. When you walk, they swirl around your legs and create a little bit of breeze and when it’s 95 degrees and the humidity is 90%, that’s a very welcome thing! 🙂
Karen says
I’m so happy to finally have figured the maxi dress thing out! I avoided them because I don’t want to deal with hemming but finding petite lengths has changed the game. I may give up shorts for good!
Christine says
Hall & Oates are Philadelphia/Temple University boys (my hometown/law school alma mater)! They were coming to Honolulu in March but covid pushed the concert to October; friends of ours have tickets. I hope they make it here. Love *all* their songs 70s-90s and it’s a shame if one doesn’t know at least a few of them!
Maxi dresses + full commando is the best summer attire LOL.
Also loving new The Ordinary skincare products: the Vitamin C 23% + HA Spheres 2% is fantastic. No burning/tingling and my skin feels and looks instantly better: smoother, more hydrated. Plus derma rolling, my bi-weekly skin care game has reached another level! I also do it the same time as my rosemary/rose hip seed oil scalp treatment. Home lockdown has a silver lining: updated self-care routines.
Karen says
Ahh, thanks for The Ordinary review. I have to make a note to add that to my list. I currently have their niacinamide on my list and keep forgetting to purchase it before it goes out of stock again at Sephora!
Christine says
I’ve heard great things about niacinamide in general and, in particular, from The Ordinary. I feel like we’re just doing all we can to stave off the inevitable, but this level of self-care is also kinda fun and frivolous. The Ordinary makes it easy to try new things on limited and uncertain income levels at this time.
I forgot to mention another thing I’ve been loving: King Soba on Amazon no longer carries the regular soba noodles (and they’re so expensive at WholeFoods) but they are selling a 48-pack of 100% buckwheat ramen noodles. I took a chance on such a large quantity (it only came out to something like $.89 a puck!) and they’re delicious with everything or on their own! Perfect consistency, don’t get soggy or mushy, no overwhelming buckwheat flavor, and I’m so happy to be able to eat gluten- and wheat-free noodles again. I find noodles so comforting rn.
Karen says
Well you’re totally stocked now, NICE! There’s something comforting knowing that you can easily fall back on comfort food, which is why I have an obscene number of frozen waffles in my freezer.
Christine says
Once I figured out how to store the 48 pucks — they were not individually wrapped but came in one sealed plastic pack — I was all set!
Oh my goodness a freezer-full of waffles (+ a fridge-ful of butter and maple syrup) sounds like heaven. But do you have to eat them all before fire season???
Karen says
El Hub bought a massive Costco pack about a month and a half ago, and we’re steadily chipping away at it. I joke all the time that Connor was built on waffles because the only thing I wanted to eat when I was pregnant with her was frozen waffles topped with peanut butter and raisins. It’s one of those meals that is instant comfort food to me (I’ve been eating it since college). When I’m hangry it’s often the only thing that will do!
How did you end up storing the pucks? Did you wrap them up individually with Saran Wrap?
Christine says
I stored as much as I could fit in a large glass container with a lid and closed the big plastic pack containing the rest as tightly as I could, and put that into another plastic trash bag, squeezed the air out, and tightly twist-tied it. I couldn’t justify buying more plastic bags or containers to store them in because they’ll be gone in 48 days, and they’re very hearty so I’m not too worried about humidity getting to them. 🙂
Karen says
That’s the great thing about noodles! They keep (practically) forever. What did you make with them last night?
Tatiana says
I would get the new UD Ultraviolet palette except for two things. 1. I’d have to downsize some of my other purple palettes and since they’re mostly Tom Fords, that’s not gonna happen, and 2. I don’t really like the five warm colors on the left, which would end up making me look like I have an eye infection or haven’t slept in a week.
Dear Daughter came down to the house today to ask Dear Husband for some project advice. We also did a zoom SF Ballet beginner class together. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Karen says
Oh how fun! Was the SF ballet class for adults only? I’d love to sign up Connor for one.
Tatiana says
Not sure what they have for kids as young as Connor because I didn’t even think to look.
https://www.sfballet.org/school-education/
Link to their school programs right now. The ones we are doing are under the Adult classes tab. They’re $10/class by zoom. Somehow I think the actual ballet school is more expensive.
Karen says
This is super cool. They have a pre-ballet option for 4s &5s! Thank you!
Tatiana says
Cool! I’m glad they have a class for Connor’s age group! If you sign her up I hope she has fun.
Suzanne C says
But you missed the best H&O song- I Can’t Go For That! Now I feel like listening to my favorite 80’s/90’s jams. It’s been a crappy day, so I may just put on my headphones, turn on a playlist, and dare anyone to bother me. ??
The Ultraviolet palette is so pretty, but I’ve become Team Cream Eyeshadow so completely, I don’t know if I can ever go back. I’ve been using only Clinique Chubby Sticks and LM Caviar sticks for months; I’ve probably lost any technique with powder shadow I ever had, lol.
Karen says
I Can’t Go for That has the BEST bass line. I haven’t played it lately because I’m pretty sure Connor will ask me what the singer can’t go for, LOL!
Re: cream shadow. I just found one from Stila that you might like. I’ll do a review in a few!
Kerstin says
Hi Karen! Check out Live From Daryl’s House. Daryl Hall’s show which can be seen on Axis TV right now. He’s has great performances with a variety of artists. My favorite episodes include Todd Rundgren, Joe Walsh, Train, Jimmy Wayne, The Ojays, and Cheap Trick.
Karen says
Thanks, Kerstin! I’m happy to know that he’s still making music.
Melissa says
I still smile at people behind my mask. I also feel like I’m going in to rob my grocery store with a mask on On a happy note, was able to get my nails done today & hair is next!
Karen says
NICE!!! What did you get done to your nails? I’m about to paint mine, although I don’t know why because we’re going camping this weekend and I know they’re going to get trashed. LOL
Sherry says
Karen, what is that beautiful top you are wearing? Is it a dress by chance. The color is so pretty…that green!! Anyway, I agree with you on the maxi dresses. Those are my summer staple!! They feel so much cooler than shorts. I am only 5’2″, so it’s hard to find ones for my height. The one you featured from Nordstrom is really pretty. Unfortunately, I ordered one on sale last year, but it ended up being a little snug, because I have a fuller bust. LOL!! I ended up returning it. I tend to find ones that are better for my height, at TJ Maxx and Marshalls.
Karen says
Hi Sherry,
It’s a kimino-like coverup that I wear with tank tops! My mom-in-law got it from Hawaii, I think? I just checked the tag and it says “Global Village Kailua Hawaii.”
Karen says
Oh, thanks for the tip about hitting up TJ Maxx and Marshalls for petite length maxi dresses. Do you usually have to go to the petite section?
MelodyJ says
They need to make more petite maxi dresses in a variety of sizes. Why do you think Hall and Oats were secretly dating?
