10 Days of Giveaways: Comment to Win the Benefit Smokin’ Eyes Palette

May 20th, 2009 by Karen 298 Comments

The giveaway is now closed, and I’m contacting the winner by e-mail. Good luck!

makeup-and-beauty-blog-10-days-of-giveaways-bird-of-paradise

First, that paddle board lesson…

Watching my first attempt at paddle boarding yesterday, a spectator might have thought, “That girl must be deathly afraid of sea turtles!”

That’s because of how determined I looked not to fall off my board into turtle-infested waters, LOL!

Howzit, ladies? Happy hump day!

I signed up for lessons not knowing much about stand-up paddle boarding, like that the board is NOT, in fact, just a regular surf board. It’s larger, more stable and consequently much easier to stand up on in the water than a surf board.

The lesson lasted about two hours. The school I chose was Rainbow Watersports Adventures, run by Nate and Heidi, a young couple who live on the North Shore.

Nate was the instructor and went over everything, preparing the equipment on land before we ever touched the water. I felt safe the entire time.

He was encouraging and cracked jokes to keep things light while guiding us from a beginner’s beach out a few yards around a jetty up the mouth of a calm, tropical river filled with schools of fish and sea turtles coming in from the ocean to feed. They’d pop their cute heads up right beside the board to say hi.

The river winds through a jungly, residential area with peacocks and other tropical birds hanging out along the water’s edge.

Stand Up Paddle Board

I don’t sign up for activities or lessons very often when I travel, but this time I’m so glad I did.

Time for a giveaway!

At home I sing a song I like to call Tabs Has Smokey Eyes when I do the dishes or vacuum.

Tabs is lucky enough to have naturally smokey eyes, but the rest of us need something like the Benefit Smokin’ Eyes Palette to get the look. 🙂

Its so funny because i was just on sephora browsing the benfit section!

I look like a have a just finished running outdoors flush and I love that. I also have the Benetint and feel almost the same way about it … but I <3 Posietint a little bit more. I love it when people ask me “what ive been up to” because I have a decidedly flushed look on my face when I use it. 😉

    V. impressed with the zulu, how did you learn that? And the paddle boarding looks fun, I’d be dubious about the turtles as well.

I know it’s slightly copy cat-y but my favourite would have to be the cream shadow in Skinny Jeans. I like to use it for a proper smokey eye but also love that I can smudge on a bit as I’m running out the door and it looks like I made a tiny smidgen of an effort!

My favorite product by Benefit would have to be Benefit High Beam. I am very pale and pink complements my pasty complexion! I want to glow but not like a disco ball. I’ve tried the moon beam took but it has more of a golden undertone which would look great on darker skin. I took me a while to work with it, but I prefer it over M.A.C. Strobe Lotion which is what I was using. My next purchase will be the Lemon Aid! Can’t wait to try it!

So far, the best thing I’ve seen is their High Beam highlighter. It is GORGEOUS. If you don’t know what it looks like, you should at least go to the store and swatch it on your hand or something. It’s so so so pretty. It’ll probably be in my collection soon…

    LEMONADE!
I use it as an eyeshadow base during the evening when I go out and as a brightner for my eyes during school days.
The case is compact, it has a mirror and it lasts forever.
The best part is, you don’t need a brush like some concealers because it doesn’t get messy. I just dab some on my ring finger and put them on my eyelids and WAHLAAA!
    It’s amazing.

I’ve never tried Benefit… People from America don’t know how lucky you have it when it comes to makeup – I live in New Zealand and while we can get a lot of the products you have, we pay more than double the cost usually! It’s often cheaper to buy things from US websites (the rare few that do international shipping), despite the large shipping charges to post something halfway across the world!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
