Soooooo, this is what happens when you try to braid your own hair but can’t see what’s going on in the back of your head:
You take pics.
Then you look at those pics and wonder if your hair is too messy to wear out in public.
Then you post said pics on the interwebz.
Oh, and peep the gray hair! I’m coming up on the one-year anniversary of my endeavor to grow out my grays.
Y’all know I love messy ‘dos, but I think this might be a tad *too* disheveled. What do you think?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
I think it looks great! Much better than I could do. And your greys look like they’re laying down pretty good now.
Girl, a big part of it is product… I think the Olaplex might actually work!
I love it! The silvers appear like ribbons interwoven into the design. Wouldn’t change a thing! I think braids are amenable to a certain level of casual, intentional disheveledness. 😀
I am my own personal glitter factory, HA HA HA!
BTW, just in case you were wondering, one can get stuck in a rabbit hole of braiding tutorials on YouTube RIGHT QUICK.
How’s your Thursday going? I just realized it was Thursday (woke up thinking it was Wednesday) so that’s an indication of how mine has gone so far.
I think it looks perfect – effortless, chic, and beautiful with the bits of grey woven in.

Aww, thanks lady!
I love this look! Very chic. I think it’s great that you have held strong and not colored your hair. The gray is coming in beautifully!
agree!!! i hope my grays look this great, even and almost intentional!
I currently just have random clusters in different areas of my head lol
Well, when that time comes for you, if you need someone to lean, on I’m here! It’s been surprisingly challenging growing the grays out. Sounds weird, but it’s been the hardest hair-related thing I’ve done (this coming from someone who’s grown out several terrible bad haircuts and once had blonde highlights).
Aww, thanks Tina. I definitely still have days when I just wanna cave and dye it again, and that still might happen. At this point, I’m just trying to make it to a year. The positive feedback has made it a little easier!
Happy Thursday to you!
I love it! Holy cow, has it been a year already??! I know I keep saying this but you did it at the right time. Everything looks really even and natural. At my stage, it would be a very bad reverse ombre with ever-increasing white roots. I’d be doing demi-color for a year, at least!
Yeah, it’ll be coming up soon. I started in last fall!
How is the texture of your hair? Is it more now that you see more white roots?
It just doesn’t seem that long. I guess that’s a recurring theme. 🙂
It’s still fine and the curl depends on the day, or maybe the shampoo. It’s great on the underside, but the top layer seems to be getting straighter and drier by the minute. I actually oiled it up last night and this morning with some Ouai oil. Now I can complain that it looks flat. HAHA! I’d say I’m probably over 50% gray based on the regrowth. There’s no way I could just stop coloring and let it grow out. I mean, of course I *could* do that but it would look shockingly unprofessional. That’s why I always say you picked the right time. Yours is super gradual and natural. 🙂 But my grays aren’t coarse. In fact, the only time I have volume at the roots is after it’s colored.
i love the messy braid crown! how do you do that?
I really like the braid . So natural
looking . And the grays look more like silver . If you had painted them in on purpose they couldn’t be more perfect .
This is so cute! I love braids, and I swear I get more compliments the more disheveled they are. And I love the little silver bits!
Your grays look badass, I love it!!
You look great!
That lipstick though 🙂 what is it?
Thank you, Fieran! It’s Laura Mercier Velour Extreme Matte Lipstick in Fresh. Happy Friday!
You’re welcome 🙂 The lipstick compliments you so well! *Hug* Happy Friday old friend. I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your family.
Thank you! I’m finally in the mood to wear dark(ish!) fall lippies. Enjoy your weekend, and try to sleep in if you can! 🙂
