Are You Happy with Your Hair?

You know how they say the grass is always greener on the other side? Well, that’s the story of my life when it comes to my hair.

It’s not that I don’t like the hair mutha nature gave me; I just get tired of it after a while and feel like I need a change.

Before my last cut and color, I’d known for months that I wanted to make a change, but I waited too long.

I let my hair get totally unruly, with dry ends, a sprinkling of gray roots and a cut I just wasn’t feeling anymore.

Question: So what am I trying to say?

Answer: Learn from my mistake.

If you’re unhappy with your hair, try to do something about it ASAP, whether you do it yourself at home or visit a salon. You’ll feel like a new woman. 🙂

How do you feel about your hair?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. What are you up to this weekend? Do you think you might go see the new Star Trek flick (hint hint)?

El Hub and I braved the long lines last night because I’m an old school Star Trek and Next Generation Trekkie (remember the Wil Wheaton years?).

The movie’s getting tons of hype, but I think it deserves every bit.

star-trek-cat-eye

I even got my makeup fix because Uhura and the other female characters are wearing O.G. Star Trek ’60s-style makeup with a modern twist — thick black cat eyeliner and false lashes paired with pale cheeks and lips.

So hawt!

Instead of the traditional ’60s frosty makeup, the characters are wearing nude, matte cheeks and lips. It’s a modern spin on a retro look.

How do I get a job on the USS Enterprise? 🙂

I’m pretty happy with my hair. The longer it gets, the more manageable it becomes. It’s weird as most think with fine hair, going short is more manageable. For me, it takes twice as long. I have my days where all I want is a head of nice, thick loose curls hair but then I remember the humid, windy summers here in Chicagoland. Thick hair is good for the Chicagoland winters, not so much for our summers. 80-105 Fahrenheit, 80% humidity and 15 mph winds are the norm here in Chicagoland during the summer! Not so thick hair friendly. It’s not very fine hair friendly either as I keep getting knots in my hair; hence, I’m usually wearing buns or braids.

It’s worse in Chicago than here in the suburbs as all the skyscrapers create tunnels for wind (hence, the notorious nickname). My dad comes home with a rhino horn somedays and he has very little hair to create rhino horn hair!

Am I happy with my hair, maybe not happy but I’m satisfied. It is medium short down to the nape of my neck. My bangs are the only thing that makes me not rush out to get a new style. I think they do make me look a few years younger. 🙂

WELL…I was pretty happy with my hair until Thursday when I went to my usual chick to get it cut. I went in for a trim and she was in a hurry to get somewhere (that should have been my first clue), and she ended up cutting my long side swept bangs too short and some of the top layers too short. Now they don’t blend with the rest of my layers very well. I’m so pissed! Now I will have to wear my hair pulled back for a few weeks until those layers have grown out some and it looks better. She has become my friend since I started going to her, and sometimes I feel like since we are friends she doesn’t treat me like a “normal” client. Should I say something to her? She’s always done a fab job and I’ve been going to her for years, but I’m really not happy with this cut! A girl’s hair is her crown!

I am so unhappy with my hair. Last september I got those oh so stylish bobs with minimal hair and now its taking forever to grow out. Its shoulder length now, but still. The hair that feels like me is blunt bob with long layers. that is the only “me” cut.

I’ve always been unhappy with my hair. 🙁 My asian mom didn’t give me her soft, straight hair. Instead, I got my dad’s curls and they were always confused, making big waves in some spots and tight ringlets in others. I’ve been getting it straightened using japanese thermal reconditioning for a few years now and I love it at first each time, but once the roots grow out, my hair is once again the enemy.

And STAR TREK! 😀 Totally deserving of all the hype. I saw it yesterday too, and I loved it. What did you think of Zachary Quinto as Spock?

I am not a huge fan of my hair. It’s fine and I want it to be MUCH thicker! I can’t really grow it long because it just looks scraggly once it’s just past the shoulders. Plus I have next to zero patience with styling it, if it takes more than 10 minutes from start to finish, I get so frustrated. I just cannot deal with that at 5:15 in the morning!

My dream hair is Portia De Rossi’s aaahhhhhhhhhhhh…….

I am not currently happy with my hair. I’m a faux redhead, so the colour has washed out quite a bit. I think the next time I go to the salon I will go back to my natural colour, but with a dash of honey blonde thrown in.

I have never, ever, ever seen any of the Star Trek movies. Ever. But I would actually see this one. Hello? Chris Pine?! Beam me up!

Now if only someone would ask me… 🙂

I know what you mean about the grass being greener. Back when my hair was Au Naturale, I wanted it cut as short as possible. Now it’s been bleached and dyed purple and I want it to grow it down to my lower back. I’ve been debating whether I should try to dye it light brown so my roots won’t be as obvious, or just leave it alone for the time being. I’m kinda thinking that it’d be better to give it some time to recover from all the dye, though.

For the most part I’m happy with my hair. It’s too heavy and thick, but I like the jet black colour and the fact that I often get compliments when I do bother to style it. It used to really bother me that I wear my hair in a ponytail 99% of the time, but I’m starting to come to terms with it. Plus with my student lifestyle it is just the practical way of wearing it.

As for this weekend… today was a write off since I was nursing the worst hangover of my life. Man did I pay for last nights fun. Rest of the weekend is devoted to school work.

Glad to see people like the new Star Trek movie, it got awesome reviews on rotterntomatoes.com too. Have a good weekend Karen!

When I was a little girl I didn’t find my hair too interesting–it was black, shiny, and pretty straight. I would look at the redhead and wish my hair was that color, or I’d look at the girls with curly tresses and dream of hair like that. Fortunately, as I got older, my hair somehow warped–naturally. It was always thick but now it started to get somewhat unruly and that led to gorgeous waves. At some point I came to realize how gorgeous my hair was but only through divine intervention: when you have many friends crooning over your hair and guys encouraging you to never do anything to it, you begin to respect what you were born with. I’m lucky…I have beautiful dark brown asian hair (with red highlights in the summer XD ) but there is wave and flavor to it.

As for my weekend…I’ve spent most of it lounging around. Unfortunately I have finals next week and a HUGE paper to write so tomorrow I really need to get cracking. Even more unfortunate…somewhat unfortunate…I have to stop by my Mom’s and treat her to a mani/pedi for mother’s day. How has your weekend been going? What are your mother day plans?

i’m not happy with my hair =( it’s wavy and thick, and i have to do a lot of things to make it right, such as use the conditioner daily, leave on serum, straight gel, straightening iron, hair dryer and so on…but now i have straightened my hair =) so it looks nice almost everyday, and i don’t have to waste my time only for my hair..

I just cut about 7 inches off my hair last week and I’m loving every minute of it. I don’t know why I had let it get so long because every day was a struggle trying to style it. My new do is just below the collar bone with layers and it’s honestly more flattering on me. It actually made me look younger than with the long hair to the middle of my back. It’s also easy to style again and much more versatile – I can straighten it, I can pull it up in a cute clip, I can wear it naturally curly.

As for haircolor I’m a natural dark blonde. I used to almost always have highlights and then I’d go dark for fall/winter with chocolate brown or auburn. But I’m actually back to virgin hair again (meaning no chemicals on my hair)and I’m loving every minute of it. I’ve been vacationing in Florida for the last week and the sun has been doing a good job at naturally lighting my hair up and that’s all I can ask for at this point.

I generally like my hair, and I recently had a cut that I’m very pleased with! It’s same ol’ same ol’ but it looks fresher and more updated now! I just wish those little silver hairs would go away…..

We watched the Wachowski Brothers’ version of Speed Racer yesterday, and they did such a super eye on Trixie at one point… it was like a double cat-eye with a long flick up on the upper lash and a long flick down at the lower to make a sort of “X”! It perfectly mimicked the way her eyes were drawn in the old anime cartoon! Way cool! 😀

I haven’t come across a lot of women who actually like their hair…I guess when it comes to hair, we are more picky~
Anyway I’m having my own issues with hair, but just not dealing with it. Desperately in need of a cut, but don’t know what to do, and worried about how it will turn out (ugly hair line totally screws me over with certain styles >_<)

ps the cat-wig picture, totally cute!

I think my hair’s gotten way too long. I’m thinking of taking a couple of inches off, at least. Get some layers too, probably just in the front though. I’m even thinking of getting bangs!

My husband and I saw Star Trek yesterday and loved it. It was a great movie, and we aren’t even Star Trek fans, only because we never really watched the show. And your right, Uhura’s makeup was hawt! 😉

I’m pretty happy with my hair now that it’s long enough to curl evenly. It’s down to my collar bone now – I may let it grow a couple more inches, but I’ll have to deal with clogged shower drains and longer drying time.

I’m in need of a cut. The hair in the back is more fragile and splits if I don’t go on schedule. My appointment is this week.

Meh. My hair is boring me right now. But enough about my hair…I’m totally diggin’ the new Star Trek movie! I’ve always loved Trek (Voyager is my favorite). And I will admit to having a bit of a crush on young William Shatner (*face-palm*) But after seeing this movie, I’m finding myself crushing on young, conflicted Spock. Yowza!
