LOFT Lace Shorts, New Favorite Necklace and the Hunt for the Perfect White Shirt

June 5th, 2015 by Karen 39 Comments

loft lace shorts

These lace shorts from LOFT almost didn’t make it home from the store with me. I was a little unsure about them at first because I don’t usually do lace (the tabby claws get stuck in the little loops, boo!), but I’ve been trying to break out of my comfort zone lately…and my BFF Jen gave them a thumbs up. 🙂

loft-shorts-k

Seriously, as it pertains to last-minute fashion advice, thank goodness for texting and the ability to send pics from your phone. If it weren’t for those two things, I’d still be in stretchy pants and covered in cat hair.

So KUDOS FOR TECHNOLOGY!

The shorts, by the way, are the $49.99 Scallop Lace Riviera Shorts by LOFT, currently marked down from $59.99.

Actually, as of this very moment, it looks like they’re an additional 50% off on top of that! That’s $25!

Doesn’t look like there are many sizes available right now, but if you can’t find your size, these other lace shorts look pretty similar and cute.

Here I’m wearing the shorts with my new favorite necklace, this multi-strand Pearlized Crystal Statement Necklace by Ann Taylor (LOVE), and an old white button-up shirt from Halogen.

I have to be honest about the shirt, though… It drives me a little nuts. It wrinkles easily, and it’s super sheer, so I have to wear a cami under it, which makes me feel bulky around the middle.

I’m currently on the hunt to replace it with the best, most damned perfect white button-up shirt ever, and if you have any suggestions, please let me know. I’m looking for something that I can just throw in the wash at home, that holds its shape well throughout the day and, most importantly, is comfy and cute.

Outfit details…

Shorts — LOFT
Shirt — Halogen (no longer available)
Cami — LOFT
Belt — Nordstrom (no longer available, but here’s something similar)
Necklace — Ann Taylor
Eyes — Chanel Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow in Tisse Mademoiselle, Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Santal
Cheeks — Chanel Les Beiges Blush Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Sticks in No. 21
Lips — Chanel Aqualumiere Lipgloss in 92 Corset

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. TGIF! Have a great day. 🙂

Yeah, I hear you. The perfect white button-up is elusive. This is not at all helpful (and it’s a bit odd) but I remember watching Red Dragon and thinking the white button up that Anthony Hopkins wore in the opening scene with Edward Norton was the most perfect shirt ever. For a man. And, as you know, I’m not remotely into fashion. I have no idea why I loved it so and I’ve never found out who made it, etc. Sorry – that was very rambly. But at least it was about a perfect white shirt. Sorta. HAHA! Happy Friday, my friend! 🙂

This outfit is super cute! I’ve been to Loft a few times since you saw you in that stunner floral print and I have to admit I’m impressed. I almost feel it’s like a more refined Gap although I haven’t been inside a Gap in almost 20 years. I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s fashion choices revolve around whether or not they’re kitty friendly (I tend to avoid dark colors at all costs). Actually a lot of our decisions are based around the kitties. Will they jump on, knock over, sit on, stand on, lay on etc are the questions that swirl through my brain before making a purchase for our home. Crazy right?
Anyhoo hope you are having a wonderful Friday!

      Hi Tracy,

Do your home decor choices revolve around the kitties, too? I really want a beautiful duvet and a new couch but I know everything just get messed up because of you-know-know.

I love him though… Ahh, to be a crazy cat lady!

Yes, we have a 20lb, 4ft long jumper in our house so he can pretty much reach whatever he wants to. He’s a if you put that there I’m going to knock it down kinda guy. The new guy is sort of creeping us out because he likes to look at his reflection. Mirrors, picture frames, glass. He definitely doesn’t think it’s another cat. So weird.

That being said we don’t allow our cats in our bedroom so I can’t help you on the duvet and neither of our cats scratch furniture. We’ve been lucky that way.

Casey was our 12 yr old who passed from Cancer in March. Doug our 5 yr old was beside himself and just wandered our house crying, looking for her. So that’s how we ended up with Paul who’s 1 1/2 and became instant buddies with Doug the moment they were introduced. No fighting, hissing or growling. We think they were meant to be together because I’ve never seen 2 male cats bond so quickly.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Tracy. I’m sure that must’ve been very hard.

Glad to hear, though, that Doug has a new friend.

I love those shorts! I don’t have many shorts because I would only wear them on the weekend. It’s really hard to find a nice white shirt. I have one from Old Navy I bought last year but I have no idea where it went. I don’t know why all white shirts have to get so wrinkly. I love LOFT and they keep sending me emails about their sales so I end up buying tons of stuff. I bought a cute chambray shirt from there.

I was just looking at that shirt. It looks like it would be cute tucked into a skirt. Very nice! I might end up getting it because it’s 50%. You’re the second person to tell me in the last 24 hours that you got that dress. I’m so happy! It’s such a wonderful piece. I use the belt that came with it, but I suppose I could wear this gold one too. Have you worn yours yet?

The shirt is cute with capri leggings and flats. I haven’t worn the dress yet because I was debating about the belt and I was waiting for it to be a little warmer outside. I got the jacket you had in another post. It looked so warm.

That sounds like a cute outfit! Very summery and sophisticated.

I hope you like that jacket. I’ve been wearing it a lot on the weekends and it goes with so much. So far I’ve managed to not get it too dirty (knock on wood). That’s what Tide Pens are for, I guess. Have you ever heard of them? Whenever I wear light-colored clothing, I always take a Tide Pen with me just in case I have a mishap.

I totally know what you mean. I use to have a tide pen in my office drawer and in my purse for all the times I’ve made a mess. That’s one of the reason’s I don’t like to wear white too often. Plus when I wear white I have black cat hair everywhere on me. I use the tide pen and the shout wipes.

I’ve been a huge Loft fan for years and lately it’s bordering on obsession Lol. I can’t seem to get enough of their current trends.

And, I’ve kinda given up on finding the perfect white button down 🙁 I’ve purchased 3 in the last few months and none of the are “the one” … oh well.

Thanks, Reesa. I’m a little obsessed with LOFT at the moment too. You know what I love about their clothes? How most of them are machine washable. I’ve learned (the hard way) that I’m not meant to have a dry clean only wardrobe.

Have you tried any of the Ann Taylor white button down shirts? They look promising!

I love LOFT! Those shorts look so good on you! I don’t usually wear shorts, I’m always cold and too conscious about not being toned enough to pull them off 🙁 And GAP actually makes really good shirts – I had once of those fitted oxford boyfriend shirts that wore so well!

This outfit is fabulous! The gold belt was a cool idea.

I wear button up shirts to work everyday (personal preference, not a uniform). I often avoid white because of higher maintenance and transparency. A hint of see through comes with every white shirt, in my experience, and I always wear undershirts. But maybe some one else has found an opaque one, you never know!

Anyway, I’ve worn target, kohls, express, banana, ann taylor, charles tyrwhitt, j crew, and a few international brands. I think you might like the Ann. You’ll still need an undershirt, but it has a sleek, satiny feel and sleek cut. It’s pricy, though. I’ve seen people wear the banana non iron with out an undershirt, and you can pull it off, but you can still kinda tell. The cut is a little more bulky and the fabric a touch more rough looking, in my opinion.

So glad you decided to get those shorts, because they are super cute. And I really, really, really love that necklace.
As for perfect, white, button shirt. No clue anymore. I used to have one from J.Crew that came in a petite size, but their quality has gone way down hill this past year, so I don’t recommend them anymore. I once tried on an almost perfect version from Michael Kors. But since it was a regular size and not petite, the sleeves were off and the v-neckline plunged practically to my belly button. And it was $1200. Ouch! There isn’t any white shirt out there worth that much money. I’m tempted to just go to Britex and buy some non see-thru, white fabric and have one made. In the mean time, if I stumble across one in petite sizes I’ll drop you a line.

I love this when outfit! Target actually has super cute button ups. 1 “normal” and one is a half button up with that “doily” print…but it doesn’t look like a tablecloth! TGIF, Karen!

Ah the perfect white shirt. I thought I had found my white shirt soul mate… he fit me perfectly, looked amazing tucked in or left out, his buttons didn’t gape over my large bosom, and even his sleeves were the perfect length for my short little arms! Sadly, he was high maintenance. Expensive to buy, was dry clean or hand wash only, and had to be ironed under a cloth. And after two wears & washes – he just fell apart. His shoulder stitches started unravelling – so I returned him. I’ll never forget him though *sniff*

I love Loft. Stuff I’ve bought few years ago holds up well. I just got the soft wash linen shirt from Banana Republic in blue but they have white. Really soft and comfortable for summer. It’s 79.50 but they’re having 40 off sale right now.

LOL with that text. I was picky about choosing my first pair of lace shorts too for fear of looking like a walking doily. I eventually found a nice off white pair at Target. As for the white shirt, I did see one I liked at Old Navy. Not necessarily wash-n-wear since it’s 100% cotton, but the material seems like good enough quality to last a while. LOFT has always gotten my interest with their clothing. Guess I better pay them a visit!

I like these shorts! I am also looking for the lace shorts for a while. Every time I plan to buy a summer dress I end up buying another pair of shorts:) Somehow most summer dresses look like a shapeless sack. In a bcbg outlet I got silk green shorts and beautiful romper for this summer. I just wear a white sleeveless silk blouse from bcbg as a top. Buttons are too much work for me.

Try Ann Taylor for a white button down shirt. I was just looking at their summer prints and I noticed they paired a lot of prints with a white button down shirt. I love the shorts, I have several pairs of LOFT shorts from last year. I loaded up around the 4th of July, I think they ran a ridiculous sale so I stocked up.

I shop at Loft a ton! It is one of the only places that carries a good petite selection (although much more online than in stores). My wardrobe would be 1/3 the size without Loft 😉
