Have You Been to Ann Taylor Lately?

June 30th, 2015 by Karen Monterichard 16 Comments

I used to think that Ann Taylor was too stuffy for me, and I still think it’s kind of stuffy, but they’ve got some really cute clothes. I’ve purchased a few things from them over the past couple months, like I’ve gotten some accessories, a couple necklaces, a scarf, a linen tank top and a jacket (I wore it last week).

They always seem to have some kind of sale, too, and some of them are HUGE, like the 50% off ones, some for in-store and some are just online.

So check out Ann Taylor next time you pass by the store at the mall. I also think that the fit is better, and the fabric and the sizing are more consistent, than LOFT, their sister store.

I got a couple of linen tees from LOFT last spring, and also a linen tank at Ann Taylor, and the tank is definitely softer than the tees.

Have you done any shopping at Ann Taylor lately?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Totally agree with you on Ann Taylor upping its game. I never gave much thought to the brand (“it’s my Mom’s brand”) until I recently started looking for better workwear and noticed its fresher tone in design.

Ann Taylor and LOFT have a new sister line called Lou & Grey that I think you’d enjoy, too, Karen. Think Madewell, but less preppy tomboy, more coastal cool? Actually, it opened a store just a while back next to the Madewell at Santana Row. I wonder if there’s one closer to SF…

I’ve only been in an Ann Taylor store a handful of times but I really liked the style. I think it’s a great place to shop for work clothes. I didn’t really pay attention to their casual stuff because I was absorbed by all the cute blouses and skirts!

I saw the Ruffle Halter Tankini in a magazine and I knew I had to give this place another look.

AT is one of my faves. When I worked in corporate America, AT was where I shopped for business attire. I LOVE the way they do business clothes. The fit also works great for my skin figure. And I always tried to shop there during a sale. Or at their outlet. Now that I’m not working, I don’t shop there because I really have no need. But I’ll always be an Ann Taylor girl at heart. Something about the way they do chic, classic, timeless pieces just speaks to me. Now the LOFT, per your recommendation, I need to visit 🙂

Yes — I shop at Ann Taylor and Loft quite a bit. I am extra petite (under 5 feet) and they both have amazing petite sections (more online than in store). I love their clothes and always feel pulled together and cute in their outfits 🙂 They have cute shoes and jewelry, too — and you can’t beat the sales.

I really liked one of Ann Taylor’s silky shirts not too long ago and decided to wait for a sale. But by then, it was gone. It had an adorable bumblebee print, too!

I’m 5’2 and this is one of the only places aside from Nordie’s that has clothes that fit me. Almost all of my suits are from here and I appreciate the that they carry petite sizes. They have more online, but I live near an Ann Taylor outlet and Loft outlet and half the store carries petite sizes. They have really gotten better with their styles and selections and their petite sized maxi dresses/skirts are great.

I used to shop at Ann Taylor, a lot… about 12 to 15 years ago, but despite the abundance of petite sizes I felt their clothes a little boring. Then my daughter got interested in clothes and fashion and her store was J.Crew so I started shopping there with her as my go-to store. Lately, J.Crew has been missing the mark on so many points, quality, durability, consistency of sizing, styling, you name it. So I haven’t bought much in the way of clothes for the past year and a half. Maybe it’s time to go back and have a look at what Ann Taylor is doing. I know you certainly post some great looking clothes. And there is the fact that they make a lot of stuff in petite sizes.

Hi Karen! It’s not hard to tell that you are a fan of Ann Taylor/Loft. I shop frequently in Loft but never really checked out Ann Taylor. The price tag is the major reason, I think. Also I found the skirts/dress length is longer in Ann Taylor. (?) But if the material is better, as you said, in Ann Taylor, I will definitely give it a try.
Thanks for the post, the necklace you were in the June Ann Taylor post was beautiful!

I’m a big fan of both LOFT and AT. I picked up some super cute dresses last year at the end of summer for 60% off. I agree, some of their clothes are stuffy and too dressy/formal for me. But they have a good selection of more casual wear these days. I think most of their pieces are versatile and I’ve noticed the colors are consistent between AT & LOFT so you can mix and match.

I walked past AT yesterday and the windows were full of beautiful clothes…my fave colors…black and white! I didn’t have time to stop in but it’s on my list of things to do!

Agreed on all counts. My work wardrobe is almost exclusively Ann Taylor (suits for meetings, etc) and I’ve always loved the fit and their sizing, which seemed to allow me to drop one size – HAHA! Loft has super cute stuff and great deals but I’ve always found the fit to be “off”. I think that depends on your shape, too, of course. I do feel that the seams are not symmetrical on a lot of tops I have from Loft, though. But, for the price and the cuteness factor, they’re still good value. 🙂
PS I’m going with “conservative” over stuffy. HAHA!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
