Wedding Palette Auditions: Stila Cover Look No. 2

October 21st, 2008 by Karen 55 Comments

Heya, girlies! Thanks for your feedback on potential makeup looks I could wear to my friend Jen’s upcoming wedding in November. For this go ’round of Wedding Palette Auditions I thought I’d try a gold eye with light cheeks and pink lips using another Stila palette, Cover Look No. 2. Let me know your thoughts.

I found Cover Look No. 2 on BeautyCrunch.com on sale for $15.20 (originally $40). It’s all about gold and combines the shade with peach, pink and taupe.

Lame eyeshadow: a shimmery cool gold
Oasis eyeshadow: a shimmery peachy gold
Coin eyeshadow: a shimmery peachy-taupe with gold flecks
Tint cheek color: a matte peach
Enchanting lipgloss: a shimmery peachy pink gold

Most of us felt the look with Stila Cover Look No. 4 didn’t pack enough oomph, so to bump up the drama with this look I added a thick line of MAC Fluidline in Graphic brown on the top lash line. On the lips, I layered MAC Cremesheen lipstick in Speak Louder beneath the Stila lipgloss.

What do you think?

I like the idea of the look, but I dunno if it’s “the one.” What do you think of the pink lips? I think it might be a little too disco for a church wedding. Don’t get me wrong — I’m usually pro-disco lips (WOOT!), but maybe not this time.

Do you think I should turn it up? Tone it down? Maybe I’ll just show up in clown costume and makeup…

Some Cats Aren’t Cool

After I got home from work yesterday, I opened the front door to air the place out. I was sitting at my computer desk with my back to the door, reading beauty news and surfing the web.

That’s when I heard a sound coming from the kitchen — crunching, and like something being dragged across kitchen tiles. I figured Tabs had come in and was eating from his bowl of Friskies and didn’t bother to look…

Until the crunching turned into smacking and the dragging turned into what sounded like some monster destroying the kitchen.

It wasn’t Tabs.

Instead, it was his nemesis, the starved calico who lives next door. It’s nearly feral and hisses at anything that moves. The thing had crept in behind me to steal some of Tabs’ Friskies.

Normally, I like all animals, but this cat is consistently mean to me, hissing and lunging at my legs whenever it sees me outside. I shooshed it out, but not before snapping a picture…

For the record, I do not intend to steal this cat.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

It looks gorgeous, the lip color is amazing. I’m not sure if it’s wedding safe since I’ve never been to one though, so I’m not very experienced there, lol!

Aww, that cat is cute. It’s a shame that it’s so mean. There’s a gray cat that comes around my garden every now and then and it has HUGE eyes, it meows right outside my window at 6am (it doesn’t wake me up, I either haven’t slept by then or have already woke up) but when I go out to see it it runs away. 🙁

I’m not a big fan of this look – the lips are way too much for me. Why don’t you try a classic look with a nice smokey eye & red lips? I think that would look gorgeous. Good luck!

Aww, that poor pretty cat. A neighborhood cat did that once. It came into the house, and our cat, Liberty, immediately chased it out.

She’s a good guard cat. No messing with her!

I like the eye look! I’m wanting a more peach/coral lippie to go with it, though. You have such the gorgeous coloring for these looks, I can’t help but think of all the peach/gold combos that I can’t pull off! 😉

LOL! At first I thought “What’s Princess Lily doing in Karen’s kitchen?” but then I noticed that the eyeliner on your invader isn’t nearly as fabulous as PL’s! 😀

I like this look more than the last one, definitely. The lip looks good, but against a gold dress it could easily be too much. Maybe switching to a lipstick that’s a bit more muted and more on the side of plum or berry or even browned red would tone it down a bit.

    Hi Karen:-)
I read your blog every day, but dont comment too often because I dont get a chance to!
I think with a gold dress, you could pull off a lightly smokey brown eye with hints of copper..such as a light sweep of Amber Lights from MAC. Nothing too drastic, but just so it accents your eyes with a bit of smudged brown liner (and mascara, of course!). A light peachy-tan blush and a clear gloss would go well with it.
Just a thought:-). You’re beautiful anyway, so whatever you wear will look great!
    Keep blogging!

I liked the last look better, though the pink lips in this one looks great. Something about the dirty gold is unsettling for me…

I for one, am scared of cats. Tabs is the only cat I have ever found that I thought looked cute. Just like my bff’s dog Bambi is the only cute dog for me. I am just generally scared of cats and dogs. Cats more than dogs..

I definitely like the first look better. This one is pretty, but I’m just not feeling it as much. I also think that the lips are a little too pink.

The cat is cute, despite it’s evilness 😛 I have a huge orange cat that likes to hang out on my porch, but every time he sees me he starts hissing and fluffs up this fur and stuff like I’m going to kill him. I don’t know what his deal is, haha.

    I have and love oasis-such a great gold. 🙂

I like the eyes here-a lot! I think adding a fluidliner is a great idea, especially if the weather is hot and/or humid. What about switching to a lipstick that is more peach or brown instead of pink? looking back I love the stay in touch cremesheen on you. You could then use just a light touch of gloss for a LITTLE oomph. (those it glosses, while fab, are thick….)

as for the crazy calico, aw, poor girl. She might be mean and wild, but I still feel bad that she’s hungry. I’m sure Tabs didn’t mind sharing some grub….

    Here’s my 2¢ worth…

I’m not loving this look. I just don’t feel these colors do you justice. I’m actually digging the pink lips (they’re lively!), but I’m not enjoying the eye and lip colors together. The eye colors are pretty as swatches, but they create a surprisingly basic eye look.

I’ve always pictured classic and glamourous make-up being the most apropos for weddings. That’s why I think a nice classic smokey eye would be amazing on you – then you could match your lip color to the time day the wedding and reception will take place. A nude, sexy lip route would be perfect for a sunset wedding, the classic va va voom red lip route for more of a night time wedding, or lovely peach/light coral lip for sunny afternoon wedding.

Funny thing about your cat situation…It would seem I recently “stole” a cat myself. Those neighborhood cats, I tell ya!

Regarding the Nars release, I’ve seen the pics online, but have yet to see it in person. I’m hoping to get to the city soon to see the collection in person. I just gotta get through this week without losing my shizz (been crazy busy at work). I’m pretty excited about the Super Orgasm blush, too. Girl, I’m going to skip all of other people’s comments and give you my own: the lip color does not go with the eyes! There, I said it, now you can shoosh that cat toward me 😛

The eyes are really pretty, I love the combo. Maybe you need to try High Tea instead and amp up with some lip gloss (Pleasure Principle lustreglass, maybe?)

That cat has a long tail. I’ve never seen a cat with such a long tail like that before. Once upon a time there was a cat who came to our place like Tabs, that was when I was a wee kid. Mom used to give him a plate, he came at night, ate his food, slept, and left. He was so quiet and nice that everybody thought he was a house cat. Then there were this bunch of bandits that came through the kitchen windows, ate our fried fish, and pooped in our brand new bed. After that my dad put up all the screens to the windows but somehow the good cat found his way in only. And we did not have mice at all. After we moved, the new owner told us the cat also left. I guess he found another family that took him in. End of my cat-related story 🙂
