It’s weird. Even though the world around me feels like it has gone full-on BONKERS, when I go outside for walks with the Coywolf (and we’ve been going for a lot of them), the great outdoors seems unaware of the sitch in the human world.
Spring, in all her glory, keeps coming.
Case in point: One of the showiest trees in the neighborhood is blooming, and she’s absolutely gorgeous.
(Yes, she’s a dainty lady in my eyes.)
Coy-Coy and I went for several walks yesterday, and on one of them we stopped by to visit our favorite tree. As we stood under the canopy of flowers and looked up, tiny pink petals gently floated onto my hair, and I felt a song in my heart.
Thank you, tree, for your inspiration — makeup and otherwise!
For this springtime makeup look, I did shades of taupe and light purple on the lids, with plummy cheeks and soft pink lips.

Very pretty! I love purple eyeshadow! No sign of spring here in North Dakota. In fact, we got about 3 more inches of snow last night! Ugh it’s like the icing on the cake with everything else that’s going on! At least I have my health!
Karen says
Yes, at least you have that very precious and important thing! And you have a warm place to be inside.
Are you working from home today? We finally have a break in the rain, so I’m going to take Connor Claire out for a walk early in the day to wear this child out, lol!
Rachel says
I’m considered “essential personnel;” I work at a Water Treatment Plant and I do water testing in the lab. I am the only one here because my co-worker is on maternity leave, so at least I’m not in contact with many other people. And I guess I’d rather be here than at home trying to entertain a child like a lot of people (or my cats!)
Hanna says
Please stay safe. =)
Here in Malaysia, we are now on Day 4 of the 14-day Movement Control Order. We could only go out to get groceries & essentials. Only those working in ‘essential services’ (my husband included) are out working.
Sissi says
Yes, I also do my daily walk outside, besides that people that I meet keep a big distance, everything seems so normal. Like the birds, cats, trees- they don’t have a clue! And things are so beautiful right now with everything blooming. Imagine how the nature must appreciate the current stop of us humans. Less traffic, less airplanes. Probably a big relief for mother nature!
Syahidah says
Karen, your hair is glorious! Hair goals x
Kim says
I also think your hair looks fab! And you haven’t even had it cut yet! 🙂 The tree is beautiful and I’m very jealous of all Connor’s tutu outfits. If I was younger, I’d trade my sweats for the tutus! 🙂
I believe I’ll be working from home beginning on Monday. It won’t really make much of a difference to me, work wise. The boys will love having me home. 😉
Karen says
I’m sure they will! I can’t remember… Is your hubby at home, too?
Kim says
No, he is considered essential, but his hours have been adjusted; things are changing so quickly it’s hard to say what will happen. We just found out that the state will be shutting down basically all business on Sunday at 8PM. It’s such a hardship for people who rely on their paychecks from week to week and can’t work from home. I guess now is the time to stick together and be positive!
Sabrina says
So darn pretty! Also your hair looks divine!
Karen says
Aww, thanks Sabrina!
Chelsea says
You look gorgeous And what a beautiful tree! So far southeast Michigan is muddy but I’ve seen some flowers coming up.
Karen says
Connor has officially claimed that tree as her favorite tree the neighborhood! 🙂
Glad to hear the flowers are starting to bloom. I’ve seen daffodils and freesia ’round these parts.
Marty says
We’ve had several rainy days here in central Illinois but at least with a few breaks so a friend and I can take some walks- and my YMCA has been putting a bunch of workouts on video. Without my exercise I’d be a crazy lady! I have daffodils coming up about to bloom and other things bravely leafing out, so spring is really on its way. And I guess this year we’ll probably all have uninterrupted time to enjoy it! Your pictures of Connor in her tutu with the tree are so cute.
Karen says
Oh gosh, endorphins to the rescue, am I right?! I’ve been doing a lot of bodyweight and core training… More than I would if I wasn’t stuck in the house. It’s wonderful and terrible at the same time.
What kind of workouts videos have you been doing?
Tatiana says
What a pretty look. I have always loved taupes, mauves, violets, purples and pinks for shadow looks. Never really got into the warm color looks with yellows, oranges, reds and hot pinks.
That tree is gorgeous! I’m glad you took pictures to share. And Connor is adorable under that tree.
Worked out in the park yesterday. Bleacher climbs, jump rope on the basketball court because it’s coated in something that makes it softer than concrete, body rows from the monkey bars, squats and lunges. Went for a walk today on the Stanford campus. There were so many different birds and bird calls.
Tatiana says
I forgot to say, I really like your top! Is it current or from a past season? Where’s it from?
Also how do you like the Laura Mercier Caviar Mascara? I got a sample of it and liked it, but when I went to purchase a full size, I saw the reviews weren’t that great and wondered if the full size is somehow different than the mini tube. People were saying it’s clumpy, but my experience with the mini was a good amount of length and really nice separation. Of course I waited so long all the 20% and 25% off sales are gone.
Karen says
It’s an old top I got from Anthropologie years ago! 100% silk and it has held up nicely. I did a major closet cleaning and the only tops I kept were ones that felt timeless enough to withstand trends, and this was one of them.
The LM Caviar Mascara is great. I saw the reviews too and was surprised; I think it’s an excellent mascara. Not as intensely thickening as Chanels Le Volume, but the curl, separation and length is impressive. No clumps for me, either.
Tatiana says
Well I’m bummed it’s an old top. But it’s really great. I love that it’s snake print but the spring colors make it less so. It’s gorgeous. And I would have kept it in my closet too. I guess now that I’m inside I ought to do a closet clear out.
Good to know about the LM Caviar Mascara. I read those reviews and I was thinking that was not like the mascara sample I had gotten. My lashes are getting finer and sparser and I’ve been having problems with Chanel Le Volume. I’ve had to do more combing after applying it to get my lashes to look the way I like them. I really like the twist of the LM brush.
Wishing you and the family good health.

There are SO many beautiful birds out right now. We’re following an coronavirus schedule for preschoolers that one of the moms sent out, and one of the things we’ve been doing is going for a long walk (like an hour plus) every morning, either at 9 or 10. Anyway, we went out today, and Connor brought her binoculars, an we saw a bunch of gorgeous birds flying about. Amazing the things you notice when the world forces you to slow down.
Your workout sounds fantastic, by the way. I did a ladder bodyweight one that my HIIT class instructor posted that was great. Do you want it? I can post it!
Jan says
Most of the snow has melted, so spring right now is bare, brown yard with no growth on the trees yet.
Otherwise, grateful I can work from home. I was talking with someone from another organization about working from home and we agreed that so far, it’s meant longer hours because we are always at work. Still, it’s worth it to be at home.
Karen says
Funny that you should mention that about work, Jan. El Hub is working from home and he said the same thing!
Hope the leaves come back sooner than later. 🙂
Sherry says
Your hair is looking fabulous Karen!!
Karen says
Thanks, Sherry! That’s nice of you to say, because it’s driving me nuts right now, LOL!

Fabulous Spring look! At least we have extra time to play with makeup these days. You are so making me want that Wander Beauty eye palette. I’ll wait to see what can’t-live-without looks Connor Claire designs with it before I purchase.?
We had to go get some groceries today, so I took the opportunity to go to my favorite local nursery (it was voted Best in the South by Southern Living!) and buy the tomato and herb plants for my garden this year. It was comfortably warm with a soft breeze, lots of sunshine (our youngest calls it “shine-shine”), and beautiful flowers. After several icky days stuck in the house, it was heavenly. I can now retreat to my social distancing cave with a lighter heart.
Karen says
“Shine-shine,” I love it! What type of tomatoes did you get? I love me some early girls! Especially in bruschetta on freshly baked bread, OMG.
Suzanne C says
I’m going experimental this year, trying types I’ve never tried before. I have some little yellow ones developed by a local farm, a mid-sized red that is the doctoral thesis for a student at one of our local universities (called Dr. Marvel, how great is that!), one called Brown Stripe, and a couple others I’ve not tried before. I’m going to keep a garden diary.
Karen says
Oh that’s, super cool! For your diary maybe add some pictures? That might be cool. You can either draw them or take them with your phone then print them out. It might be cool to see the progression of your plants.

Spring here is a rainy mess. Way too much rain in the last two weeks. We actually had a premature spring that started in late January due to warm temperatures and rain. No snow in the winter for like the 7th year in a row. The daffodils are already done for the season. Bearded iris has started blooming (about a month early). Fruitless pears and redbuds are in bloom, as well as a lot of other things which aren’t showy but cause allergy symptoms.
Hoping the California lockdown works as intended and keeps the sick population to a minimum. Texas would be the LAST place to decree a lockdown, because they pretend the state’s “all about freedom.” (In truth, most people in TX would break the rules anyway, just like they speed everywhere.)
Karen says
Take care of yourself, CL. ❤️

Love this look! Wish I could buy this palette but they don’t send it to my country
