MAC Cosmetics Face of the Day: A Smokey Eye with MAC Pigment in Purple

So, I’m trying to figure out what makeup look to wear to the midnight Sex and the City show tonight. Purple + smokey eye = a lil’ bit out of my comfort zone, but I thought I’d give it a whirl.

Like the coral and brown eye I did a few days ago, this look also required two layers.

Eye Makeup Tip: Layering extends the staying power of your eyeshadow and provides extra dimension. Try starting with a layer of a cream product — I like MAC Paint Pots, MAC Paint and MAC Cream Color Base in Pearl — and applying a powdered eyeshadow on top of the cream.

The first layer of eye makeup…

  1. MAC Girl Friendly Paint Pot on the browbone
  2. MAC Nice Vice Paint Pot on the lid

The second layer of eye makeup…

  1. Estee Lauder Blushing Goddess Pure Color Eyeshadow on the browbone
  2. MAC Pink Pearl Pigment on the lid
  3. MAC Your Ladyship Pigment on the inner third of the entire eye
  4. MAC Smoke Signal Pigment on the outer V and lower lash line
  5. MAC Blitz and Glitz Fluidline on the upper lash line
  6. MAC Technakohl in Graphblack on the upper and lower waterlines

To complete the look…

Lashes

  • MAC Zoomblack Zoomlash mascara

Brows

  • MAC Concrete eyeshadow

Those dreaded dark circles

  • MAC Select Moisturecover Concealer in NW 25
  • Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder #2

Face

  • Laura Mercier Oil-Free Foundation in Suntan Beige on the face
  • Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder

Cheeks

  • MAC Fab Powder Blush
  • MAC Natural Flare Loose Beauty Powder

Lips

  • MAC Ultra Madame lipstick
  • MAC Nico Now Lipglass

I think I finally decided on a pair of shoes for the movie tonight! These heels are by Banana Republic. I got them on sale a few years ago. They’re comfy, but since they’re heels and I’ll be wearing them all day long, I covered my toes with a shizz load of moleskin (to prevent blisters). Gotta keep my feeties comfy!

I have never been to a midnight movie before, so I’m really excited, albeit a little worried that I might fall asleep. I’m usually in bed by 11:00. Night owls, please send me your mojo!

Are you planning to watch the movie tonight or this weekend? Do you think it’s gonna be good?

I wish we all lived closer and could watch the movie together. No offense to El Hub… 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Since you’re here, it’s probably safe to assume that you like MAC Cosmetics as much as I do. 🙂 Have you seen my MAC Gallery? It’s a visual way to search for MAC reviews and looks on Makeup and Beauty Blog.

That does look pretty! I think it’s perfect to wear for the movie, and love the shoes too! You’re giving me inspiration…haha

I may end up going to this alone seeing as I have very few girlfriends and they don’t live very close. 🙁 But I’d rather see it alone then with a boy who doesn’t want to be there.haha Sadly there is no midnight showing(thankfully they had it for HP) so I’ll be seeing it tomorrow!

By the way… the way you add all the layers and shade your eye shadow is amazing.haha Makeup really is an art, isn’t it!

GORGEOUS! I love, love, love this look! Granted, purple is my fav color, but I LOVE what you’ve done with it! And how smoky it is! And how well it suits you!! HOT!

I hope the movie goes well for you! I’ve been to several midnight showings of things before (Hello Star Wars!) and it’s awesome because the people that are there are real fans and will laugh at all the stuff you’ll laugh at! It’s fantastic!

I’m a natural night owl, and I napped today so I can stay up all night working on a 15 min report that I have to do tomorrow on South Park. But I always have extra awakeness (and diet RedBulls) at night to share so I’ll telepathically send you some!! ~~~~~ <-telepathic waves, LOL!

Awww Karen you look HOT! I wish I could wear purples more often, I tried a purple look this weekend and just looked SO washed out and gross.. I washed it off in the middle of the day and started over 🙂 BUT about Sex and the City.. oh my goodness I’m beyond excited 🙂 I have to pick out a killer pair of shoes to wear tomorrow ! woo hoo

Purrdy! I started to love purple recently after discovering the dark purple only makes me look like I have black eyes (wrong shade!) I totally dig the lighter lavender shades and pair them with pinks like Jardin Aires. This is so pretty! Have fun with the movies!

I absolutely LOVE midnight movie showings. It’s my fun thing to do; I’ve been to like 5 or 6! It’s really fun…get there early, though. The only downside is that most people don’t go to the first showing so usually I’m the only first one of my friends who’s seen the movie, and I always want to give details away before they get a chance to go!

    Hi Bridget,

I will be with you in spirit when you watch it tomorrow! I was originally going to go alone, too. (Chocolate bribery goes a long way with El Hub). My best gal pal lives over the bridge, so I will probably see it with her again next week.

Makeup it really is an art form. I am constantly amazed and inspired by what people create using brushes and different products!

    Hi Mariah,

Thanks, girlfriend. I was feeling a lil’ goofy earlier about the look but now I am started to get more comfortable with it. 🙂

If left to my own devices I’m usually a night owl, too, but I’ve gotten so used to getting to bed early so that I can write early in the morning. I love the night life, I love to boogie… on the disco round, oh yeah!

By the way, I love that you have to do a report on South Park! What’s it’s about?

    Hi Crystal,

You should keep trying with the purples. 🙂 It’s a color that I find challenging, too, (and I still don’t feel 100% confident about it). I’ve found that playing with the colors at home helps a ton (like if I’m just sitting there watching TV, I’ll try looks just for fun). Another thing that also helps is avoid the over blending trap. I’ve found that if I blend too much it just makes a big, purple mess. 🙂

Who are you going to watch the movie with tomorrow? I can’t wait to hear about your shoes, as I am hopelessly addicted to accessories!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick.
