Feeling Soft Blue and Purple: My Dior Lace Thursday Face of the Day

January 21st, 2010 by Karen 49 Comments

Well, I decided to take the Dior Lace Dentelle Palette in Pearl Glow for a little spin tonight.

Without a particular look in mind before starting, I just grabbed the pan of shimmery blue, purple, pink, taupe and silver and let my fingers make up my mind for me. 🙂

Dentelle AFTER it’s been swatched

By the time I was finished, I’d used a mix of products from Dior, Urban Decay and MAC, ending up with a soft, sorta watercolor effect with a faint wash of blue and purple on my eyes, a light pinkish brown matte on my cheeks and a creamy pinkish/plum lip.

On my eyes, I used the Dior Dentelle Palette in Pearl Glow, Dior 2-Colour Eyeshadow in Nude Look, Dior Extase Mascara and the Urban Decay 24-7 Glide On Eye Pencils in Zero and Ransom.

To tone down my cheeks (because I didn’t want them to overpower my eyes), I used MAC’s Personal Style, a sheer powder blush from the recent All Ages, All Races, All Sexes collection.

For my kisser, I started with a layer of Dior Artist Pink Lipstick and added some Dior Creme de Gloss in Delicious Plum on top.

How about your look today? 🙂 What did you wear? Did you go bold with your makeup, or keep it kinda mellow?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

As my daughter used to say when she was but a wee one.
    you look “prit” (pretty)

    Explanation:
When Aja was about 3 or 4 she would look at me when I was getting ready and say “you look prit mommy” So as far as I’m concerned that is a compliment of the highest caliber! :0)

Oh and your earrings are gorgeous. And I know you’ve been wrestling with your bangs, but they look faboo on you!

Actually it’s pronounced like the continent “Asia” There was a group called Steely Dan in the 70’s and 80’s and they had an album called “Aja”
She’s not named for the album, I just liked the way it was spelled. Her middle name is Li, pronounced as Lee. Of course all this meant endless amusement for us when people would try to pronounce her name!
She really doesn’t hate us for it though, :0)

Ooooh, you look mega pretty (as always)! 🙂 The lace designs on the palette…if I got it, I would never touch it. Too pretty! Though, I AM eye-ing the other palette from this collection–Coquette. Oh how I love my neutrals!

Is it just me or does your hair have a little bit more of an oomph! today? More volume? Ahhh, I must sound crazy.

And I rejoice! Tomorrow is Friday! 😀 End of another week.

For me: neutral lid with winged liquid eyeliner as per usual. And just rockin’ the chapstick! It’s so cold and wintery in my neck of the woods. I don’t think lipstick/lipgloss would help in this weather! 🙂

The lace design is now mangled beyond belief, LOL! 🙂 You aren’t alone in eyeing the other palette… I’m kinda lusting after it too.

Hmm, as for the hair I did put some Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray in the crown area! 🙂

What are your plans for the weekend? Doing anything fun? I have friends from high school coming up to visit. We’re going to hang out and have Indian food!

I love your earrings! They look so cascading, goes well with the watercolor-ish eye makeup. I really love this look, it’s so soft and pretty 🙂 I kept my makeup really minimal today (the neverending rain is depressing me) with just some mascara and berry tinted lipbalm/lipstain type thing

Wow, this is so gorgeous on you! I actually don’t think I have similar shades in my stash already! But I told myself that I’m going to lay off on the eyeshadow (I have more than enough, really lol) and focus on building up my blush collection for the time being. Pretty sure I’m going to ask SO for two NARS for our 3rd anniversary/vday. 😀

Oh! By the way – I’m interviewing for grad school early next month and I was wondering if you can suggest a trio or quad of neutral shades that’s not totally matte but not metallic or overly shimmery? I have a lot of neutrals, mostly warm neutrals in addition to brights in my collection, but they’re all pretty sparkly or foily… I’d like to keep my budget ~$30-35. I was originally thinking maybe Dior Earth Reflection, but with the shades as light as they are I just feel like I wouldn’t reach for it that often, and I looked at some Estee Lauder quads today and felt the same way because two of the shades would be so light I’d only use them as highlight and often the crease/contour color wasn’t dark enough.. =/ (Though I adored Rose Gold and may splurge on it for Valentine’s Day teehee.) Thanks Karen!

Ooo, Let me horn in here. Too faced has the Natural Eye palate that is wonderful. It can be really subtle or in your face. Has a good mix of matte and shimmer and downright glittery. It’s also wonderful to reach for when you want to rock a either a really retro cat eye or a crazy bright liner.

That is such a pretty palette and I am debating between the Dentelle palette and the Coquette palette! Today I tried on Nars Orgasm blush and Nars Schiap lipstick with Nars Easy Lover lipgloss layered over the lipstick.

Oooh it’s so pretty! I used a bit of Stila’s rose gold illuminator today – Sephora was selling two illuminators (worth $64) for $10 a while back and while the bronze color is too dark, I’m really liking the rose gold.

Yesterday I wore nothing on my face but for my eyes I wore a Jade e/s from Maybelline on the lid, and NYX’s chocolate on the outer V and crease. It softened up the jade and made it looks really natural.

This look (yours, not mine! lol) looks like something that could be worn for a cocktail night or something. Very attractive!
