Coral, Bronze and Gold: A Natural, Summery Face of the Day With Tom Ford Summer 2015, NARS Eyelashes, RMS Beauty, Paul & Joe and More

A Face of the Day with some products from Tom Ford Summer 2015, NARS Eyelashes, RMS Beauty and more

My father-in-law does this thing where he answers every “when” question with the word, “Tuesday,” like, “When did you guys go to that dinner?”

And he says, “Tuesday.”

Or, “When was that storm you mentioned?”

To which he says, “Tuesday.”

And he giggles every time like it’s the funniest joke in the world.

Big sigh…

Buuut, I’m borrowing the joke today! 🙂 Basically, I was in the mood to wear something natural-ish, summery and spiced up with sparkling garnish because, dude! — as my father-in-law might say, it’s Tuesday, and Tuesdays are the best days to wear glitter.

I used quite a few new products, too (some of them from Tom Ford Summer 2015!), along with some older faves like Diorskin Air Nude Serum for this bronzed brown and gold eye with pink cheeks and coral lips.

A trick for mornings when you wake up with puffy eyes…

I had majorly puffy eyes this morning thanks to my spring allergies, so to offset that puffiness I deepened my crease with a matte brown. Instead of using an eyeshadow, though, I grabbed Tom Ford’s Terra Bronzer.

Yup! I used it as a transition shade, which I like it for, as it isn’t orangey. It’s more of a golden tan warm matte brown, and I think it layers and blends beautifully.

I really didn’t want to accentuate my puffy lids, so I kept all of the shimmers/glitters on my “mobile lid.”

Yup, mobile lid. It’s the part of the lid that moves when you blink. You can see it when you look straight into a mirror and blink. That part that moves is your mobile lid.

Anyway! For this look, I did a matte in the crease and kept the shimmer confined to the mobile lid. The combination of shimmer on the lid and matte in the crease appears to deepen and define the crease.

Or at least that’s the idea.

IMO, the best thing from Tom Ford Summer 2015

For the shimmer, I used Tom Ford’s Cream and Powder Eye Color in Naked Bronze. I dabbed the cream bronze shadow on my lids with a finger, let it dry, then went back in and patted the glitter eyeshadow in the center of my lid to create a focal point.

I really like Naked Bronze, by the way. It’s annoyingly expensive ($60), but it’s so pigmented that I don’t have to use much, and both the cream and the glitter layer and blend sans drama. Even if you did use a ton, it would probably still look effortless.

I think Tom Ford’s cream shadows are among the best products in the line, and if I were to choose one thing from the Summer 2015 Collection, it would be one of the Cream and Powder Eye Colors.

Cream blushes: a makeup tip

For cheeks, I also turned to Tom. I dabbed golden pink Cream Cheek Color in Pink Sand on the apples of my cheeks for a soft, subtle sheen and some natural pink color.

My favorite way to apply cream blush is to do it right after foundation. That way the foundation is still a little wet and the cream blush blends into it more easily. If, on the other hand, I wait until my foundation is dry, the blush seems to sit up on top of my skin where it looks more obvious.

For this look, I stippled the blush with a Real Techniques Multi Task Brush.

Tom Ford Lip Color Sheer in Pardiso? Sheer? Not so much…

The coral lips in this look are courtesy of pleasantly surprising Tom Ford Lip Color Sheer in Pardiso (also from Summer 2015), which is sheer in name only, as it’s very pigmented on my lips. It also lasts 3-4 hours.

New NARS Eyelashes, Paul & Joe Primer and RMS Beauty

As for the other products I’m wearing, I worked in some new things I’ve been wanting to further explore, like (in no particular order)…

NARS Eyelashes in Numero 1 — This style is considered the “little black dress” of the new NARS Eyelash family, and it’s supposed to suit all eye shapes and makeup looks. They’re very comfy and easy to apply, and I like the length. They’re noticeable but not super cray.

Paul & Joe Moisturizing Foundation Primer in 01 — This luminous pinkish peach foundation and moisturizing primer has a little more shimmer than I expected, which concerned me a first, but now I like it. I like how it peeks through ever-so-slightly.

I’d say it’s probably better for brightening than pore minimizing, though. It also has a very strong floral scent, which is the usual steeze for Paul & Joe.

RMS Beauty Living Luminizer — I love how this creamy highlighter, with its soft white sheen, highlights skin without excessive shimmer. Easy to blend and apply (I use my fingers), it’s definitely going into my regular highlighter rotation.

RMS Beauty Tinted “Un” Powder in 2-3 — I really like how this tinted loose powder looks on my skin and in photographs. I think the demi-matte finish looks completely natural, and it really cuts shine (but doesn’t do it too harshly, if that makes any sense).

Gorgeous look. The eyes are my favorite part. I need to try using a bronzer as an eyeshadow. That’s a neat idea although if it’s not Tom Ford, I’m not sure if it will look that good!

I’m wearing simple makeup today. UD Naked Basics 2 on my eyes. Coral blush and a bit of contour to hide my post wisdom teeth extraction swollen cheeks.

      Thanks Agata!

Yes, bronzer as a transition shade is one of those great makeup tricks to have in your back pocket. Blush works too!

Oh boy, I hope that you are healing nicely. Did the dentist knock you out when she/he took out your wisdom teeth?

Definitely going to try the bronzer trick, if only I can remember to do that when i put on my makeup!

I was completely knocked out and apparently I don’t remember a lot from what happened after I was awake, lol. Today it’s slightly more painful than it was yesterday, not sure why….

OMG, today was a tired, quick makeup day, BB cream and lipgloss.

Three things you should know about this post:

I need the deets on that necklace you’re wearing
I love, love, love the way you used numbers to identify the products in the roundup photo.
At 45, I seem to be living daily with majorly puffy eyes. I hate to emphasize the puffs with eye makeup!

      Hi Jennifer!

Why are you so tired? Is Paco Rabanne keeping you up at night?

OK, so the necklace! It’s the Neon Spray Necklace by Kristin Perry. Turns out it’s on sale right meow:

Love this look! I am SO ready to skip ahead to summer and warm sunny makeup tones. I’ve been trying to emulate a peachy nude look from an Urban Decay sample and it’s not working out. The model is fair skinned so similar tones won’t work the same way on skin at our depth, but it sure doesn’t stop a girl from wishing! Back to the smoky eye tomorrow, I guess 🙂

      Hi Alison,

Smokey eye ’til I die! I might have to do one tomorrow too. Maybe a brown smokey eye? Or gunmetal gray? So many choices!

Karen you look lovely 🙂 Can you remember what you used for under eye concealer? I’m having a heckuva time finding something that doesn’t look drier than the sahara or migrate its way into my increasingly numerous fine lines. The Sephora sale was AWESOME in that I purchased the Tarte Creaseless cream concealer. hydrating: yes. Creaseless: NO WAY. I gave it a couple honest tries and it REALLY did not work for me. I’m back to my nars, though i look 60-ish under my eyes (and I’m 36)…the coverage is nice though. Le sigh. Your under-eye area looks SO natural!! Happy Wednesday!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
