How many elves does it take to screw in a lightbulb? make one heck of a gnarly holiday eye palette? Answer: just one, if that elf is e.l.f, and the palette’s their 96-Piece Geometric Eyeshadow Palette (regularly $20, but it’s on sale for $10 now at eyeslipsface.com).
This budget-friendly behemoth isn’t one of those streamlined holiday palettes with just a small handful of select, everyday shades.
Hello! — there are at least five varieties of green up in that one corner (Kermit the Frog would be pleased).
Yeah…there’s definitely a lot going on here.
It’s downright daunting, particularly if you get overwhelmed easily (like moi). I mean, the thought of 96 powder eyeshadows all in one case intimidated me at first, but then I took a closer look at the way the colors are all laid out and started seeing a method to the madness…
The triangular pans aren’t just randomly strewn about. They’re arranged in such a way as to make it easy to find coordinating colors (usually a big struggle for me with these blockbuster palettes) — browns with golds in the upper left, greens with peaches and yellows in the upper right, cool-toned purples and pinks in the lower left, and cool-toned grays and blues in the lower right.
So the palette isn’t just mathematically interesting. It’s also wise. 🙂
I looked at this palette’s smaller nephew, the 18-Piece Geometric, a couple weeks back and thought it, too, was a great value — quality, long-lasting eyeshadows rich in pigment — and the shadows in this larger 96-pan package perform just as well. Same formula, same pigment. I think they’re way up there in terms of drugstore makeup quality.
My only semi-major gripe with the 18-piece version was the diminutive pans (too small for most brushes), but this larger one addresses that with bigger pans, meaning more room to run my brushes across the shadows, making it that much easier to pick up product.
There are so many budget-friendly holiday palettes out there now, but this is one of the best ones I’ve tried. You should be able to track it down in drugstores for $20, but if you don’t mind shopping online, it’s available now for $10 at eyeslipsface.com.
Oh, and for the rest of Cyber Monday, they’re also offering 50% off everything on the site (and free shipping on all orders over $35, no coupon code needed).
If you’re open to ideas…you might try their Milk & Honey Lotion Wipes, Powder Brush, Eye Makeup Remover Pen, Glossy Gloss, or their Nail Polish Remover Pads. I like all of the above.
Happy shopping, bargain hunter. 🙂

Eight Below 4-ever
If I had a 40 of Olde E (’cause I’m classy like that), I’d pour it on the ground for Paul Walker. 🙁
I was never a huge fan of the Fast and Furious franchise because, well, it just wasn’t my thing, but I loved, LOVED him in Eight Below. It’s one of those movies that never fails to cheer me up.
I always thought he’d be cool to hang out with, like a laid-back buddy you could always count on to go surfing with on the weekend or after work.
Aw, Paul… You will be missed.
I was shocked when I read the news (I found out about it on Twitter… Seems like every big news story is breaking on Twitter these days, doesn’t it?), and when I told El Hub, he actually thought I was kidding. It just didn’t compute.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Those burgundies and purples look so amazingly pigmented! Very tempting for me to break my no-buy.

If I could take a break from makeup for a sec, I also didn’t believe it when i first heard about Paul. It’s especially sad because he was so young and he leaves behind a 15 year old. That’s a tough age to lose your dad. 🙁

Such a perfect Palette! Somehow I dont like the goemetric design and would’ve preferred it to be laid out in a uniform line! But the shades look so pretty!

That seems like an extraordinary deal for so many eyeshadows, but elf made my no-buy list after buying a nail polish set from them and having the glass neck snap in my hands upon first opening it (seriously, wut), ruining my clothes and creating a giant mess. The other nail polishes in the set incidentally had issues too- caps breaking, or refusing to open. You get what you pay for when it comes to their polishes, but maybe their eye shadows are more user-friendly.

The palette looks like a bucket of fun! I just couldn’t work with the oddly shaped pans. =/ Everything has to be of equal proportions and uniformly shaped or else I won’t even pick it up. Such a bummer. 🙁

I still can’t believe Paul is gone. I’ve always been a huge fan of the Fast & Furious franchise. Still remember in my middle school days watching the first one packed in a theater on opening weekend and everyone ooooh-ing and aweee-ing in unison. Makes the movie that more enjoyable. Anyways, I used to work with someone who talked highly about him. Paul was a family friend of his if I remember correctly. It was never about him. Always about helping others. Sad fate for a man who’s been so humble. *tear*

I’m still reeling over the news about Paul. I also thought it was just an internet rumor. My brother told me that someone at the restaurant he was at told everybody. He told me right before church started. When we got home and typed in P. His whole name just appeared. My heart sunk because that means Paul’s name got a lot of searches recently. It might be true. Sadly it was.
I like The Fast and Furious movies. I also liked him in Eight Below. We first saw him in Pleasantville. He was so young and his daughter is a teen. I read that he studied Marine Biology and that he just really reconnected with his daughter about two years ago. Paul will be missed.
