You Learn Something New Every Day

December 11th, 2012 by Karen 21 Comments

I’ve always thought of myself as a city girl, but this weekend, while I was petting a couple of goats (they were at the tree lot where I bought my Christmas tree), I realized that I could probably be happy on a farm if I had lots of animals around.

Have you realized anything new about yourself lately? Big or small, I’d love to hear about it.

Hi Karen, I live in the city center, so not a lot of animals here. But on vacation or as a child there were sometimes many animals and I really like having them around 🙂 right now I try to be kind to myself and believe it will all turn out right – so this is not something new I try. But I really have to since the work atmosphere is kind of toxic. have to get out without damage! and this is definitely new to me

I’ve always thought of myself as the workaholic girl, the one that thought it was extremely necessary to have a job as important as your husband. But now (I think it’s the biological clock ticking!) I can TOTALLY understand women who leave their jobs and other things so they can have 2 new jobs: have and care for their children and take care/ be the super wife of their husbands/homes.
And I admire them ’cause they are always ready to give support and be the stronger one!
    xoxo

I am a city girl, but I have been living in the country for 8 years now. I have realized lately that I could not leave and move back. It is so peaceful, and having animals and growing food really gives a different perspective.

I love animals, usually better than humans.

Aww look at your new friend 😉

I really am a city girl at heart. I do like animals, but I don’t know how to be around most of them!

Sure. I think about it all of the time. I volunteer at a farm teaching kid’s programs and working fundraising events (like a recent farm-to-table dinner with gourmet restaurants in Boston that use ingredients from the farm). I’ve volunteered there for nearly 13 years now but I could not do it full time. Helps me give back to my community when I’m not in my office.

I’m the type of girl, that if someone comes by with a baby, I’m like ” please don’t scream once you see me, please don’t want me to hold the baby” I’m not good with children, always terrified of upsetting/ dropping a baby. However if someone comes by with a dog. I’m all over it!

Love your goat pics! I am a country girl through and through – the city is fun to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there. Give me 4 wheelin’, horseback riding, and target/skeet shooting any day! I’m not much for kids either, I don’t do well with the crying and screaming. I love my niece and nephew because they are such sweet and good kids, but that’s pretty much it. I realized today that I actually miss being in a church community and wish the religion I was born with (Catholic) wasn’t so strict on certain things.

I like that you liked meeting the goats. When I was younger, I actually raised goats as part of a 4H project and have a soft spot for them–they have wonderful personalities. I now live in the Twin Cities, but enjoy stopping by the barn where goats are during the state fair. The pics are adorable. 🙂

I love how they stick their necks through the fence. that pic with you and the one goat is really cute. I think I could live in the country with a bunch of animals, even though I, too, am a city girl!

Awesome pictures! They really have beautiful eyes, don’t they?

I love animals, I also enjoy the silence and quiet feeling of the countryside… but my heart belongs to the city. I need some asphalt and concrete around me!

Yes, that I’m still ridiculously impatient when things don’t go my way. I thought I’d made big strides in that area until last night, when I was trying to put contact paper on our new shoe cabinet’s shelves. In low light. I’m not one to throw things but, boy, oh, boy, did I feel like it then. I also learned that I violently hate contact paper. HAHA!

Ha! Me too. It’s easily on my list of things I don’t like to do (right next to cleaning the toilet). What’s the pattern on the contact paper?

It was just plain white but now it has a great “bubbly” texture to go along with it. HAHA! I laugh because otherwise I might cry. 😉

HAHAHA! Just tell people that you did it on purpose. When either of the moms point stuff out like that when they visit, that’s my standard reply. “I meant to do that. It’s an artsy fartsy thing.”

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
