Floating Pumpkins

October 31st, 2009 by Karen 11 Comments

Earlier today I went to downtown San Rafael to grab lunch. Kids were trick or treating at the stores on Fourth Street. It blows my mind that kids trick or treat at malls in the middle of the day; all my Halloween memories are of trick or treating with my dad at night around our neighborhood.

I saw the same thing today while shopping. It’s a bit odd to me. My mom would take my sister and I to our grandparents’ neighborhoods to trick or treat. It was more fun, and some people gave out full-size candy bars. :o)

I have awesome memories of trick or treating in my favorite Halloween costume as a gypsy. I loved wearing tons of bangles and eye makeup! My favorite haunts from back in the day did NOT include stores or malls. I work at an outlet store in a shoppin center and we had so many kiddoes pounding the pavement..boy were we glad that our candy person was out on sidewalk and not in store!

I saw kids trick-or-treating at the mall today too. So strange – I hope the stores were prepared for that!!

I was there too. I had lunch at Cafe Amore next to the theater. So good!

There were so many kids. I was so surprised. Did you get a lot or trick of treaters?

      Hi Marisol,

Sometimes I think we’re ships passing in the night, LOL!

We only got a handful. What did you end up doing for Halloween?

II love the Halloween street display. It is totally not the same as trick or treating on the streets at night when it is cold and dark and atmospheric. You end up running into your friends and it is so fun. Trick or treating at the mall sounds so suburbia, parents today are too paranoid.

Wow i didnt know kids trick or treated round the shops lol.

I remember taking my son trick or treating round my mums neighbourhood when he was younger. He didnt go this year as he is now 15 and at over 6 foot would probably scare people lol.

Yeah, I didn’t believe my parents when they told me there would be tons of kiddies trick or treating at the mall. When I came to work at 2 there were little pirates and disney princesses all around. We actually ran out of candy by 4.

That’s so cool! I miss living in a house just to see the trick or treater’s. I guess I should have gone to the mall and watched the kids. While it’s odd to trick or treat at the mall, I’m all for it. Unfortunately, there are some crazy people out there.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
