What was it like to interview Sarah Jessica Parker?
Well…it was sweaty.
LOL! Let me back up a minute. It was during her press tour in 2008 after she launched Covet, her third perfume, and I only had six minutes to ask her every thought-provoking question in the world.
I was supposed to get 10 minutes with her, but my time got cut down to six minutes at the very last second, so I had to edit out my very insightful questions about her favorite shoes and the best places to get Chinese food in New York City… 🙂
Feeling rushed, I ended up talking a mile a minute just to get through the rest of my questions!
No, seriously, I must have sounded like a crazy person.
The interview took place inside the back of a Macy’s store in the smallest room ever. It was like talking to SJP in a closet, and did I mention that I’m claustrophobic and sweat profusely when I’m trapped in small spaces without any windows?
Girl, I was a mess.
SJP was very professional and polite, and much more reserved, than I anticipated, because all I really knew of her was based on her character, Carrie, in Sex and the City. At the end of the interview, I asked if we could take a quick picture together, but she declined. In hindsight, I think it was because when she asked what media outlet I was with, and I said, “Makeup and Beauty Blog,” she heard the word “blog,” and this was back when blogs were still new on the scene, and they had zero pull and credibility in the beauty world.
I don’t even know whose camera that is to my left in this picture… Whoever it was, kudos, homie, for having a decent manicure. 🙂
Also, please note that I’m rocking beyond skinny brows and a hella frosty brow bone highlight!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Karen, thank you so much for sharing these stories with us! It’s so cool, the places you’ve been, and the people you’ve been able to meet, because of MBB!

Hi Fran,
I’ve been really lucky. I’m excited to see what adventures with the blog are up ahead!

I walked past her once on the street. She looked at me but didn’t say anything. She was on her cell phone.
Karen says
Interesting! She was on her Blackberry when I met her.

Wow, blogging for 10 years? That is seriously impressive! That’s so awesome that you got to interview SJP but stinks she wouldn’t take a pic. BOO!
Karen says
Yup, I’ve been writing about lipgloss for a really long time! And I still enjoy it. 🙂
How long have you been blogging, Tanya?

Congratulations on your 10 year milestone! Looking forward to many more!!
Karen says
Thanks, Barbara! I’d love to do this for 10 more years. That would be a gift!

Hi Koren,
Thanks for always sharing your cool stories. I get claustrophobic also so I feel ya there..lol
Getting to do an interview with her I’m sure you loved.
I think though it was kinda divaish of her to say no to a picture with you:(
Doreen..xx

Hi Doreen,
Being claustrophobic is not fun. Oh gosh, there’s this long, dark tunnel that we drive through sometimes to get to the coast, and every time we go through it I have to do lots of controlled deep breathing. And once, I was in an elevator once where the doors weren’t opening, and I had a full-on meltdown. Thank goodness I wasn’t in there for long. I used to be able to handle planes OK, but the last time I flew I had to do my deep breathing exercises and chill the eff out.
I would’ve loved to have taken a picture with her! She was my favorite character in Sex and the City.
I hope that you’re having a nice week so far. Is it Friday yet?

First, mega congrats on 10 years! I love your blog, Karen, it was one of the first I subscribed to. Second, I’m kinda bummed that SJP declined to have her picture taken with you. I think it was because she knew you’d outshine her. I like SJP but I’ve never thought she was all that.
LindaLibraLoca says
You really shine i these pictures, brow bone highlight and all. These stories are so much fun!

I’m sorry to hear about the closet and claustrophobia (and no pic) but it’s cool that you’ve been able to interview people you’re interested in. I wonder if SJP had to spend the entire day, talking to people in that closet! Not the always-glamorous life most people would imagine.

Congratulations on 10 years!
Very cool that you got to meet SJP, but it doesn’t seem like it would have killed her to take a picture with you. I’m sure those press junkets must get exhausting for the celebs, though.
