Maybelline Drops of Jade Color Show Polka Dots Nail Polish

I keep wanting to call this nail polish “Drops of Jupiter,” like the song by Train.

Remember that one? For a while there in the early 2000s it was playing every other second on the radio, LOL!

I still love it, too.

I’m wearing two layers of Drops of Jade here, one of five new Polka Dots Nail Polishes from Maybelline, and I can really see the jade jelly base and the different sized flecks of hexagonal glitter.

The sheer, thick formula dries to matte finish with a base of non-streaky color. I think it’s actually pretty easy to apply as far as glitter polishes go…

Only thing is, if you like crisp edges, they’re kind of a challenge to achieve with the included brush. I usually do my edges freehand, but the fibers splay out, making the polish tough to control. You might need to dip a pointy brush into some nail polish remover and run it along the base of your nails to clean up the edges.

Drops of Jade is available now online and at drugstores and Ulta.

I have this on right now! I love it, it kind of reminds me of mint chocolate chip ice cream. I found the formula a wee heard to control and if a big piece of hex glitter flakes or pulls off…you’re left with a big chip.

      Hi Christine,

Mmm, Baskin Robbins mint chip ice cream. 🙂 Do you end up putting a top coat, or do you like the matte jelly finish?

I really like the matte finish and did not use the top coat…because mine got lost when I moved!
I think I’ll buy a top coat and try again. Also not helping: scrubbing floors.

        Did you use a topcoat?

On my toes, but not usually on my nails. I switch out my finger nail polish so often that it’s not really worth the time. I do love Seche Vite and Guerlain’s top coat though. I’m about to try Illamasqua’s on my toes…if it’s good I’ll let you know!

          Did you move recently?

Please do! I love Seche Vite, but lately had been using Sally Hansen’s Insta-dri clear coat because it lasts for about 5 days and that’s how long it takes me to get bored and change colors. I’m def in the market for a good top coat.
And funny enough, I almost never put it on my toes — only fingers!

I moved about 3 weeks ago…everything is still in boxes and those boxes are scattered across an apartment 3x the size of my old one!

Looks great but I always have a difficult time removing glitter polish from my nails. Any advice on this?

      Hi Janelle,

They’re a real pain to remove, it’s true. I do a couple of things, like waiting until I get out of the shower (the water helps loosen the polish). I wrote a few posts about this trick. Hopefully this helps:

I like it! One problem that often happens with nail polishes that have huge glitters is that you might only get on piece of glitter in one coat. Booo. But you got lots with two coats!

    That’s good news. 😀

You might want to try cleaning up the edges with a brush dipped in nail polish remover.

The jelly base dries to a matte finish! I think that’s the trick.

I love this green, very pretty shade! Does this polish feel textured? It looks like it’s not smooth.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
