What I Wore Wednesday, Vol. 8: Metallic Bronze Lids and Matte Beet Red Lips

April 12th, 2017 by Karen 16 Comments

Some might say that metallic bronze lids and beet red matte lips is a little too glam for hanging out with a toddler at home, but I went with it. 🙂

I got the inspiration for this look from one of my favorite makeup artists on Instagram, Katie Jane Hughes.

tom ford cheek eye palette warm kosas electra
Clockwise from the pencil at the upper left: NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned, Kosas Cosmetics Lipstick in Electra, Tom Ford Eye & Cheek Palette in Warm, Tom Ford Naked Bronze Cream Shadow, MAC Next to Nothing Foundation in Medium Plus, MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy, NARS Sun Lit Bronzer in Laguna

Products in the mix

Eyes: Tom Ford Naked Bronze Cream Shadow (as a base on my lids and along my lower lash line), Tom Ford Eye & Cheek Palette Eyeshadow (lids and lower lash line) MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy (tightline and lower lash line), Urban Decay Cannonball Mascara (lashes), MAC Brun Eyeshadow and Benefit Ready Set Brows (brows)

Cheeks: Tom Ford Eye & Cheek Palette (the blush on the apples of my cheeks, the highlighter on my upper cheekbones), NARS Sun Wash Diffusing Bronzer in Laguna (cheeks)

Face: Make Up For Ever Smoothing Primer (on my cheeks, nose, forehead and around my mouth), MAC Next to Foundation in Medium Plus mixed with a few drops of Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Concealer in Y41 (all over my face), Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Concealers in Y31 and Y41 (underneath my eyes), NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder (to set my under-eye concealer), MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Golden (on my forehead, the sides of my nose, and around my mouth and chin)

Lips: NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned mixed with Kosas Cosmetics Lipstick in Electra

I never would have thought to wear a beet red lip with a bronzy eye, but it looked so good on Katie Jane that I wanted to try. I also mixed two lipsticks together this time to get the matte purplish red, and I like how it turned out.

Do you ever mix lipsticks together? Inquiring minds want to know.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Happy hump day, BTW. 🙂

I really need to try one of those NARS bronzers! I’ll probably get the lighter one though.

Today I wore MAC Next to Nothing in light plus, blinc mascara, UD shadows in venus and naked 2, and the lancome shaker oil in the red berry shade, it was a simple day where I got some work done at home and then took my dog for a walk in the park.

I wear intricate looks all the time when being at home with the kids, there is just no point in saving makeup for special occasions as a mum.

Oh wow! So pretty! I love the bronzy eye with the beet red lipstick. Definitely going to try this. Well at least the bronzy eye. Not sure I have any lippies that qualify as beet red.
Yes, I mix lipstick colors all the time. How else would I get exactly what I want in a lip color?
Conor is growing up so fast. I love the pic of you two where she’s snuggled up on your shoulder under your chin!

Any tips on how you mixed the two lipsticks? The combination looks amazing!

      Hi Cathy,

You could put a little bit of each on the back of your hand (or a clean makeup palette designed for mixing) and then mix the two with a lip brush and apply, but I’m too lazy for that life. LOL! I put a layer of the NARS shade on first, then did a layer of the Kosas shade. Rubbed my lips together and that was that! I then cleaned off the tip of the Kosas tube by running it gently across a paper towel (that way, the next time I wear it, it won’t have any of the NARS shade on it).

Great! I have both of these colors but would never have thought to mix them to such beautiful effect.

I’m usually too lazy to mix, but I just couldn’t find a perfect beet purply red lipstick in my stash, ya know?

I’m so happy to hear you have that Kosas lipstick. Isn’t it amazing?! I hope they come out with more colors soon!

Yes, Kosas is great! Have them all. I try to keep all my makeup au natural but that dang Nars just can’t be resisted sometimes. Congrats on that lovely little girl of yours. She’s gorgeous!

My favorite look ever on you! That’s saying a lot because you have had so many gorgeous looks. When CC is grown up and looks back at these pics she will know she had one glamorous mommy.

Aww, Lily! You’re so nice. Thank you very much.

I can’t believe how big Connor Claire is getting. I mean, I know it’s inevitable, but I sure do miss my lil’ teacup baby.

Hope you’re having a nice Friday so far. Any plans for the weekend?

Thinking about dying some Easter eggs. Would love to be outside this weekend, but the pollen in Atlanta is OOC! Have a great weekend!

I feel you… The pollen here where I live is crazy. My neighborhood is surrounded in trees and grasses and flowers. They’re so pretty to look at, but in the spring it’s rough. All about that Zyrtec life. LOL!

You have a great weekend too. Happy Easter! 🙂

Totally late to the party but I had to say how much I love this on you! I follow Katie too (I think because you mentioned her?) and remember loving this look too. 😀

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
