Here’s the makeup I wore today! It was a pretty chill Wednesday overall… I got up, wrote for a bit, took Connor out for a morning walk (yes, our Coywolf is walking now!), worked and went to an appointment to see my therapist (just a regularly scheduled thing I’ve been doing once a month; it’s been very helpful).
And that’s what I did! I didn’t want to wear anything too elaborate or heavy, but I was in the mood for a little spice, which is why the gold glitter liner was up in the mix. 🙂
All about that base: Tarte’s version of MAC Strobe Cream, and a new IT Cosmetics cream foundation
I started with an old fave, Make Up For Ever Face Smoothing Primer (THE BEST!), then patted Tarte Brighter Days Highlighting Moisturizer ($32), a face moisturizer with pink pearl that looks a lot like a slightly thicker MAC Strobe Cream, all over my skin, because I wanted a little bit of glow to show through my foundation.
Then I buffed new $38 IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact Solid Serum Foundation in Tan all over my face (it’s a cream foundation).
The compact says that it’s full coverage, which I think is totally possible because it’s pretty opaque, but I sheered it out because I wanted my skin to look as natural as possible. Plus, I wanted the glow from Brighter Days to show through.
Anyway, it’s very lightweight and so, SO creamy, and my skin, which was feeling extra dry today, likes it a lot.
Happy Girls Shine Brighter
I grabbed this cute new $29 Double Duty Beauty palette from Tarte with the most adorable name ever for my eyes and cheeks. It’s called Happy Girls Shine Brighter.
See? Isn’t that sweet!?
Inside there are five powder eyeshadows — a satiny beige, a shimmery gold, a shimmery copper, a matte dark brown and a frosty pinkish peach — a dark blackish brown powder eyeliner and a peachy tan blush with a pearly finish.
I was in the mood to wear warm colors today, and it fit the bill.
She’s a man eater
I also wore a new $20 black pencil liner by Tarte called Maneater on my water lines, and it’s kinda cool! It’s rich and silky soft without any blue undertones. They call it a “self-sharpening” pencil (I have to admit that it took me a while to figure out how to use it). Twisting the cap sharpens the tip to a point, so it’s always pointy when you need it.
GLITTER!!!
Sometimes I like wearing metallic liner or glitter liner on my upper lashes lines because it catches the light and brightens my eyes in a different way than a typical inner corner highlight does, so today I wore Tarte Eye Jewels Glitter Liner (it’s normally $24, but it’s on sale now for $12 online), which has a metallic gold liquid liner on one end that looks like melted jewelry and a fine golden glitter liner on the other.
I drew a thin line across the top of my upper lashes with the metallic gold liner first, then bumped up the sparkle by layering the glitter right on top.
Coppery Devotion
I went with a lippie by Axiology (a small green beauty brand) called Devotion ($28) for my lips. It’s a warm coppery pink with a metallic finish, and I felt like it would play well with the copper tones on my eyes and the metallic gold liner.
I lightly dabbed the tube on my lips to add just a hint of color and metallic shine.
Other things up in the mix
I filled in my brows with my current brow love, MAC Brow Sculpt Brow Pencil in Brun and did two coats of Tarte Lifted Sweatproof Mascara ($21) on my lashes, just to test it out and see how it compares to my beloved Urban Decay Cannonball Waterproof Mascara.
Lifted Sweatproof is new and pretty good for volume and separation…but I still prefer Cannonball because of its mega lifting powers and superhuman curl hold.
Lastly, I put just a smidgen of NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer in Macadamia under my eyes to help out my dark circles (which are still quite a bit better since I used Nuvesse).
So, yeah! That’s the makeup I wore today. There’s a little bit of flash with the glitter liner, but nothing too outrageous. Of course, now I need to know now what you wore today. Do tell. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

That Tarte palette is only $29?! Excuse me while I RUN to grab that one! Also, side note, but Maneater is my favorite workout song, ever, and I basically hoard any makeup product that’s called that! 😀

Which version of Maneater? Hall & Oates or Nelly Furtados? LOL

I wore a minimal smokey eye today using the Maybelline Blushed Nudes palette with a brown eyeliner by Essence to complement, a touch of illuminator (maybe from Avon?), Physicians Formula blush in coral and a light sweep of Physicians Formula bronze, Urban Decay’s Perversion mascara, and theBalm matte lip cream in Committed. Oh, and I used Physicians Formula setting powder to control the shine and Maybelline eyebrow pencil. I forgot the primer this morning and I rarely use any foundation or BB cream. I’m really trying to be diligent and use up products I already own which is difficult because there are always so many new ones coming out! I really want to try any of the Tarte eyeshadow palettes, I keep eyeing the entire Too Faced line, and I want all of the Urban Decay shadows.

WOW! That is such a pretty palette, but I am sure it would be pricier here in Australia. Nevertheless, I am going to check it out, and that mascara also for a more everyday version. Love your pictures as always! 🙂

Today I used Shu Uemura hard pencil #9 on my brows (LOVE this formula); two Shu moisturizers (the “bouncy fine” one migrates to my eyes, but both are good and love them on decollete and hands); dr. brandt primer in medium mixed with Vapour skin perfector; Boing concealer; Shu eyelash curler and whatever mascara was within reach; MAC cream blush (don’t recall the name, sort of a dark brownish pink that looks super natural); MAC Nylon under brows and near lash lines, to give brightness behind the mascara; Gabriel Zuzu lipliner in Hazel and a dab of Gabriel lipstick in Maple Shimmer. Oh, and Benefit highlighter, in stick form but I dabbed it on same as the blush.
Super natural look, like yours, but it always sounds like a ton when you write it down, doesn’t it?!
I love that Tarte palette! So cute. I’m thinking about picking it up for my niece!

Very pretty look, Karen! I especially like the liner and the lippie 🙂
I need to try that new IT Cosmetics foundation. I use their CC Cream a lot, but have to mix two shades to get a good match.
And I’m trying a similar new moisturizing/illuminating primer, First Aid Beauty Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer, which I quite like! For some reason my Hourglass No. 28 Serum Primer doesn’t work very well under my Dr. Jart Black Label BB Cream, but this works great, doing the duties of both moisturizer and primer, which helps on get-out-the-door-fast days, which is when I tend to wear this BB cream (‘cuz I can also get away without concealer when I wear it, and I don’t have to mix two shades to get a match!). First Aid Beauty makes several products that work really well on my reactive, sensitive skin. Tarte makes some good ones, too, though. I’m thinking of getting the Rainforest of the Sea Vol. 2 eyeshadow palette. Have you tried it?

Your skin looks fantabulous and you know I’m a Tarte-for-face fan so the Brighter Days moisturizer has me interested. 🙂 Your comment to Kelly B above made me laugh out loud, btw. I’m picturing people getting really pumped to work out to Hall & Oats’ Maneater. HAHA!
