A Face of the Day with the Urban Decay Shattered Face Case

September 10th, 2013 by Karen 35 Comments

Urban Decay Shattered Face Case
Wearing the new Urban Decay Shattered Face Case

Today was the first day in a really long time that I wore a sweater and long pants…

Bluh.

On the one hand, I’m gonna miss the hell out of summer. On the other hand, it’s nice when your office isn’t hotter than a sweat lodge.

I kid you not, yesterday it was so hot in hurrrrr that I had hallucinations! — including one with Tabs meowing to the tune of R. Kelly’s Ignition.

One of the coolest things about the cooling weather, though, is that it means holiday makeup isn’t too far away.

Yeah, boo. H-O-L-I-D-A-Y.

If you’re the type to pre-plan your Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Year’s makeup months ahead of time, 1) you’re much more organized than I am, and 2) you might really dig the new $44 Urban Decay Shattered Face Case.

Urban Decay Shattered Face Case 3

It’s one of a dynamic duo of recently released Face Cases from Urban Decay (now available on urbandecay.com and coming soon to stores and counters), with a mix of wearable cool-toned beige, gray and purple eyeshadows, and slightly warmer peaches and pinks for cheeks and lips.

When my neighborhood Fed Ex guy, who likes to joke around with me, noticed my makeup today, he said he’s seen me look “much crazier.”

I’m pretty sure it was a compliment. 🙂

I’m happy to report only minimal fallout from the Shattered Face Case. Ya know, sometimes with UD shadows, I notice a sprinkling of pigment beneath my eyes, especially when I don’t tap-tap-tap to unload my brush during application.

Not the case with these colors.

Urban Decay Shattered Face Case 5

As for the blushes, they totally rock. Just so pigmented and soft. And while I like the color of the peachy highlighter, it’s maybe a tad too frosty for me… You might want to go a little easy on it if your pores tend to give you drama.

Urban Decay Shattered Face Case 2

I could probably have done with a different name for the case…because Shattered Face? I get it — the shattered design on the front of the palette — but it’s not my all-time favorite product name.

Urban Decay Shattered Face Case

Eh, I’ll just call it Urban Decay’s Fun New Palette Filled with Cool-Toned Eye Colors!

See now isn’t that better? 🙂

On that note, I leave you with these wise words from R. Kelly…

Have a great night!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I must say the eye shadows are just gorgeous. The blushes are a bit light for my skin tone but otherwise these look beautiful!

The Shattered and Anarchy cases are just so perfect for travel. If I was away from home a lot, I’d probably buy both and just keep them in my travel bag. I’m most wanting to try out the Super Saturated Pencils and have somehow never given them much attention. Must be remedied!

Karen, that’s a gorgeous look! Do you think the colors of the face cases will suit warm skinned, dusky gals?

      Hi Aditi,

You may need a base color like MAC Painterly to get the beiges to pop. But yeah, you should be able to pull off the purples and taupes if your skin can carry cooler tones. I have warm skin and wear cooler-toned shadows all the time!

I think you look awesome! And not in the least bit crazy. You need to greet the Fed Ex Guy with something really wild tomorrow. Maybe pull out your She-Hulk lipstick and pair it with super bright, mismatched eyes. 🙂

I love your banter with the UPS guy. You have got to talk him into a photo and mini interview one day so he can claim his internet fame.
The Shattered face case is the one that got my attention more than all the other holiday offerings. it looks fab on you, and I agree- shattered brings to mind things we do not want our faces to be.

I’m not sure about the States, but here in the UK if you say that you’re “Shattered” it means that you’re really tired.
Love the look you created! Hope both palettes get released here too…

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
