Calling Mrs. Mia Wallace! The Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette Marries Dark Themes With Dark Neutral Eyeshadows

July 17th, 2014 by Karen 17 Comments

Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette
Wearing Urban Decay’s Pulp Fiction Palette on my eyes (just call me Mrs. Mia “Karen” Wallace)

If…

  • You like carrying on entire conversations with friends and family via Pulp Fiction movie quotes (“Bring out the gimp!” “I love you, Honey Bunny.” “All right, everybody be cool. This is a robbery!”).
  • Your Urban Decay cup runneth over, and yet despite owning all three Naked palettes, you still want more, more, MORE!
  • You dream of wearing brown, black and/or beige eyeshadow while doing the twist with John Travolta at a 1950s diner.
  • You don’t mind a little fallout.

Then you might want to say “What happened to my Honda?”

Wait — that’s from the movie. 🙂

Let’s try that again…

You might want to say “I do” to the new $34 Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette.

Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette
Mmm, French fries with mayo…

Inspired by Mrs. Mia Wallace herself, Uma Thurman’s character from the movie, this five-piece (three new shadows and two re-promotes) limited edition palette, which is part of UD’s fall collection, is all about the Mrs. and recreating her look.

Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Collection Palette
Inside the palette…

I’ve found that when I wear the shadows in this palette — Righteous (a matte light cream), Tyranny (a matte warm brown), Vengeance (a deep, satiny matte taupe-brown), Furious (a satiny white) and Anger (a satiny black with a slight sparkle) — things get very dark, very quickly, just like they do in the movie.

Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette Swatches
Swatches…

I’m not sure why, but the shadows look considerably darker buffed and blended on my eyes than they do in these swatches, and while they blend beautifully and last a good, long while (7-8 hours), the brown and black shades get muddy fast.

Things go a little better when I move very slowly, carefully building up in layers (versus using an aggressive windshield wiper motion/making little circles).

Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette
Also in this look from Urban Decay: Mrs. Mia Wallace Lipstick and Lip Pencil on my lips, and Perversion Mascara on my lashes

Because neutrals are always useful, especially matte browns (you can never have enough of those), I like this palette. I also like that it isn’t ridiculously expensive, but really — if you already have Naked or Naked 2, you can basically get the same look now.

So, do you need this palette?

Maybe…if you’re an avid UD hoarder and/or a rabid Pulp Fiction fan.

PRICE: $34
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Sephora, Ulta, select Macy’s stores, and online at urbandecay.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B

Speaking of dark movies…

I found a great one!

It’s called Perfect Sense. It’s on Netflix, and it stars Ewan McGregor and Eva Green (Casino Royale).

Eva’s character is an epidemiologist who falls in love with a chef (Ewan) during a mysterious pandemic which robs people of their senses.

You might be thinking, “Wha?” but yeah, I can safely say that it’s the most unusual apocalyptic love story I’ve ever seen, and I liked it a lot more than I thought.

If you see it, let me know what you think. I thought it was some scary sh*t, man!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I am a UD hoarder and a rabid Pulp Fiction fan (I even went to a PF quote-along at a local theater a few years ago and they have everyone cap guns to shoot during the show!), so I’ve actually purchased the whole collection already and it’s on it’s way! I’m SO EXCITED. Also, as soon as I get Internet connected in my new apartment I’ll check that flick out on Netflix! After I re-watch Pulp Fiction of course haha.

I’m currently trying to decide whether or not to buy this one. Urban Decay is definitely my favorite brand and I want more matte medium brown eye shadows since my Naked palette mostly offers dark looks. I think I might be better off buying the Lorac Pro Palette or Lorac Pro to Go Face Palette. Especially since you said these end up dark on the eyes. Karen, do you have a recommendation?

(P.S. Vengeance is such a pretty color.)

Karen!! I’m super excited to see this post. I ordered the lipstick and it should be here soon. Seeing it on you has me even more anxious. Fabulous shade of red!

Oh my goodness, I absolutely love Perfect Sense. I saw it in 2012, and have been recommending it to select people since then. It’s one of those hard films to recommend because it is so different. But it is one of my favorite apocalyptic films to date. Thanks for the post on the palette! It’s been sitting in my UD cart since yesterday because I’ve been trying to decide whether to go for it or not. Definitely feeling the lipstick (but I’m a lipstick hoarder), but your review helps to convince me about the palette. I’ll keep in mind your technique tips!

I really liked Perfect Sense! May need to go swatch the lipstick to see if it will turn pink on me.

I like the idea of the palette but the packaging to me is super underwhelming. I do love the lippie though and the look really suits you!

I like both Ewan McGregor and Eva Green so I’ll definitely check it out. Speaking of gingers, I also really like Eric Stoltz and think he’s awesome in Pulp Fiction. 🙂

The palette is a bit too dramatic for me, for sure. And I’m definitely foggy today because when I read “Things go a little better when I move very slowly…” I had a mental pic of you carefully tiptoeing around and I was like “hmm, how does that help?” until I read the next couple of words. Um, duh.

*Gaw!!! That red looks soooo gorgeous. I’ve heard that the UD lipsticks are ultra moisturizing, ultra pigmented, don’t budge, and wear for a long time. I don’t own an UD lipstick but I sure would love to. I’m looking to find a great purple, kinda deep purple (not violet), and I’m kinda bummed that I can’t find one in their collection. The hunt continues…..

I’m a rabid UD fan, but the eyeshadow palette left me kinda cold. That being said, I’m a rabid fan of UD partly because of the bright and fun and crazy colours, so I may not be the target for this palette, LOL!

The lipstick, on the other hand… 😉

I want this palette but just can’t bring myself to spend the $$. The lipstick, lip pencil, and nail color are already in my arsenal. LOL
I love the lippie. I bought it in honor of my new car, she’s Raven metallic with black leather interior with red stitching. the lipstick is perfect LMAO.
Seriously, the lipstick is perfect. If I didn’t eat I think I could get 6 hours of wear from this puppy. I used the lipliner first and then the lippie and had minimal touch-ups all day.
Maybe I’ll get lucky and find a coupon for the palette. If not, I have about 10,000 others that could copy the look. lol

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
