“Because Old Navy” is as good a reason as any to sport sparkly skin on a typical spring Tuesday. Or Wednesday. ?
I mean, I really just want to get out of my pajamas before noon and feel cute again on the regular, truth be told. If there’s a maximum number of days a person should spend in sleepwear per year, I’ve definitely exceeded that limit!
Like the subtle spring sparkle look I did for last weekend’s luncheon, this one also took about 10 minutes. The spring sparkle comes courtesy of glossy coral lips, khaki lids and lash lines with subtle shimmer, and glowing skin.
All of the primary face products I used — the tint, powder, bronzer, highlighter and even the setting spray — have subtle shimmer and create a dewy, glowing look that’s perfect for a sunny spring day.
I hadn’t been to Old Navy in a while, and guuurl, sometimes when I go in there the store looks like the ninth wrinkled polyester circle of hell, but yesterday, not so much.
Ugh, SO MUCH CUTENESS! They’ve got this retro tropical vibe happening, and it speaks to my soul. Hibiscus, parrots, palm trees left and right. Good thing I had Connor with me and she was getting antsy for lunch because I would’ve been tempted to stay a lot longer and try everything on.

TOOLS (products I used are in italic)
- A face primer (MAC Prep + Prime Skin)
- A dual-ended eye brush with a tapered blending brush on one end and a flat eyeshadow brush on the other (Chanel Blender/Shader Brush; I used the same one from the previous Spring Sparkle post which I hadn’t had the chance to wash yet, LOL!)
- Face brushes for applying and blending concealer, powder, highlighter bronzer (MAC 131, MAC 204S and an ancient Dolce & Gabbana powder brush)
- A brow gel (Hourglass Arch Brow Gel in Dark Brunette)
- A waterproof mascara (MAC In Extra Dimension Waterproof)
- A black liner (Cargo black pencil)
- A matte khaki shadow pencil (NUDESTIX Magnetic Matte Eye Color in Army)
- A shimmery olive eyeshadow (MAC In Extra Dimension Eye Shadow in Sea Worship)
- A shimmery khaki eyeliner (Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Stash)
- An under-eye concealer (Make Up For Ever HD Ultra Concealer in Y33, Y41)
- A powder to set your under-eye concealer, if you want/need to (NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder)
- A liquid skin tint (Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint in Honey)
- A face powder (MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Golden)
- A semi-matte bronzer (Hourglass Ambient Radiant Bronze Light)
- A shimmery golden highlighter (MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Whisper of Gilt)
- A shimmery pinkish peach highlighter (MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Show Gold, although this is totally optional)
- A matte coral liquid lipstick (MAC Retro Matte Lip Colour in Rich & Restless)
- A glittery coral lipgloss (MAC Dazzleglass in Tangerine Tropica)
- A setting spray with subtle shimmer (MAC Fix+ in Pinklite)
STEPS
- Apply face primer, and allow it to dry for a bit as you start working on your eyes
- Curl lashes if you want/need to, then layer one or two layers of your waterproof mascara
- Fill in brows with the brow gel
- Apply the khaki shadow stick from lash line into the crease, feathering out the edges
- Pat and blend the shimmery olive eyeshadow onto lids
- Dab the shimmery peachy pink highlighter onto the inner part of lid (optional)
- Line water lines with the black eyeliner, then line lash lines with the shimmery khaki eye pencil
- Sweep bronzer into your crease and along the lower lash lines
- Even out skin by applying and blending the face tint
- Disguise dark circles and/or any areas where you want more coverage with concealer
- Dust a sheer layer of face powder to set
- Blend bronzer on your cheekbones, around the edge of your face, and across the bridge of your nose
- Sweep golden highlighter on the tops of cheekbones and down the bridge of your nose
- Apply the coral matte liquid lipstick to your lips, then top with the gloss
- Finish by misting your face with the setting spray
No, seriously, I want it all
Starting with these sweatshirts and tops…
I also wouldn’t mind this dress, even though the material felt a little heavier than I expected…
Oh, and the babies/toddler/kids section was ? bananas.
I’ll keep my eyes peeled for a good sale if you will. I’m having a minor wardrobe crises at the moment, and everything sure looks tempting…
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’m actually going to run over to Old Navy during my lunch today. Going to a dance party Friday night and looking for a new pair of jeans. Heard they’re all on sale so I figured I’d check it out.
Karen says
Hi Barb,
There were a lot of sales happening, and the jeans in my store at least looked like there was a good amount of stock.
Tell me about this dance party you’re going to!
Barb says
I wound up getting 2 pairs of the curvy skinny jeans (dark denim and light/distressed denim).
I’ve never been so it’s my first time attending this dance party. A DJ from a local oldies station (98 WOGL) apparently hosts these frequently where he plays dance music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. $40 for food, beer and wine for 5 hours! I am looking forward to it! Going with a bunch of friends so it’s going to be a fun girl’s night!

Hmm…I may need to visit ON again soon. I gave up on them years ago but some of those look adorable. Especially the pineapple. Pineapples always remind me of Psych. Ahh Shawn and Gus…we miss you buddies.
Karen says
Hi Nicole,
GAH, they always suck me back in when they do cute stuff like this. It’s weird, I have a few shirts and shorts that have really stood up, but then there will be all the other things that just straight up fall apart. I still shop there though because I like the sales and it’s convenient for me. 🙂

Another beautiful look! And just what I need (two days off in a row and I have zero interest in going back in today, big surprise lol!) so at least I’ll feel better about it while doing my make up. Sea worship is the only color eyeshadow I’ve ever hit pan on besides sumptuous olive. I love it! There’s something about it that pulls the green in my hazel eyes more than anything else. Remember the packaging it came in for the LE summer collection? It was gorgeous, kinda bummed I can’t buy it that way again. I might have to get that new fix plus, too.
Karen says
Hi Savannah,
I do remember that packaging, and to this day it’s still one of my favorites. That entire collection is LOVE. Easily in my MAC top 10.
So the new Fix+ is cool but FYI, the shimmer is pretty subtle. I like that it’s mellow but if you’re expecting bling highlights it’s not really the spray for that.
Also, this might seem a little random but I just wanted to say thank you. I know you’ve been reading the blog for a while (I just saw a comment from you from 2012!), and the fact that you still pop in to say hi is so nice. SO THANK YOU!
Savannah says
<3 Your blog has always been my favorite! There's so much to love- your writing, personality, photography, your comedy, tips and tricks and most especially, how genuine you are. I make sure to check every day to get my fix! 🙂 so, thank you for creating something so beautiful for us all to enjoy!
Karen says
You’re so sweet. Thank you again for reading for all this time! 🙂
Happy Thursday!

I just went to ON yesterday! I got a t-shirt dress in white with a black/gray print of palms and tropical leaves. Cute and on sale for $15! I admit I only ever buy anything from ON when it’s on sale…
Karen says
Hi Lulle,
I saw that! You got it for a steal. 🙂
sydnee says
I need to go by ON stat! So many cute things.

I love this look, Karen. The whole make up looks gorgeous but I love the eye shadow combo most of all. Please keep this new make up series up, it serves as great inspiration for those of us that are a bit stuck in their eye shadow rut 😉 Will definitely try to replicate!
Karen says
Thanks for the feedback, Mrtyna! I’m glad you like it. I get stuck in eyeshadow ruts too and have to force myself out of my comfort zone so I totally get it! If you do the look (and I hope you do), please send me a pic, or if you’re on Instagram please tag me. I’d love to see it on you.
Suz B. says
I can totally see you rocking all of the sweatshirts, especially the one with the parrots and hibiscus!
Karen says
LOL Suz, me too! Anything with colorful birds and I’m there! 😀
I hope you had a nice Wednesday… Halfway done with the week, woo hoo! I just got back from working out, gonna jump in the shower, and then watch some of the new season of Handmaid’s Tale. Did you have a nice day? I hope so!
breyerchic04 says
I wore the new pinklite fix+ today too! Over Charlotte Tilbury Unisex skin tint! It was such a great glow combo for me.
Karen says
Hi Breyerchic04,
Ahh, one of these days I’ll get around to trying Charolette’s makeup. I love me a good skin tint. 🙂
breyerchic04 says
I bought a blind bag kit last year on Cyber monday, and it’s all just great, basic stuff, i love her method of naming lipsticks after celebrity’s signature colors too. Very Victoria is my ideal nude lip. The eyeshadow that was in the blind bag was a dupe for Tom Ford Platinum, i wear it set with Mac Patina a lot.
Karen says
If they do something similar again I think I’ll try it! 🙂
Linda Libra Loca says
I have a wardrobe crisis as well right now, must be the change in season and the fact that I am still very pale and feel off in y spring and summer clothes.
Jennifer says
You look so beautiful in that car selfie!
Also, thanks for the step by step tutorial. I really appreciate it. I find these written instructions are a lot more helpful than video right now. Perhaps because I’m lurking on your site while I’m in the newsroom???? 🙂
I’m heavily into a glowy, sparkly look right now. I just got MUFE Star Lit Liquids in arctic white and soft champagne. Love them on the eye.
I also was heavily tempted by a similar product last weekend at the mothership and now I’m panicking because I can’t remember the brand or the name. But I tried it on and it looked great. Curses.
Also, I was at Old Navy two weeks ago and there wasn’t anything festive and tropical so I guess I’ll have to visit again.
Kisses to Connor Claire and Tabs x0x0
Nadia says
Karen, Guuurrrl I’m gonna need to know where you got that top from. I love the bright citrus color! I read all of your posts and love your writing style. You sound like me and my girlfriends when we get together.
Karen says
Aww, thanks Nadia. 🙂 That makes me so happy!
So the top is from Anthropologie from ages ago by a brand called Deletta. Looks like there’s the exact same one for sale on Poshmark (I’ve never used the service so I can’t say if it’s any good, but wanted to give you the option):

Lorraine says
oooh I love this look! thanks for the step by step, I plan to try it out with similar products from my stash. Connor looks like she is having a ball running around town with you- and what an adorable tee! Have to agree on those Old Navy prints, I can see you rocking the floral off the shoulder top with some black shorts or a neutral midi skirt and metallic or beaded strappy sandals. And how cute would your girl look in one of those tropical print sundresses?
Chelsea says
This is such a pretty look! And Old Navy has had some cute stuff lately. I just got a cute umbrella since mine died.
Kim says
Connor is all cuteness, as usual. Ugh on Old Navy. I’d love to find anything there that actually fit me well and didn’t completely unravel after 2 washes. It’s usually so inexpensive, which is awesome, but I’ve yet to find anything there that worked for me. 🙁 On the bright side, I’m happy that you’ve had success there! And you look very lovely and springy. 🙂
