Shu Uemura Cream Eyeshadow: Pictures, Swatches and First Impressions

March 27th, 2009 by Karen 21 Comments

Shu Uemura Cream Eye Shadow 1

Shu Uemura is tackling cream eyeshadows in a big way with their new nine-piece collection, and I couldn’t be happier.

I’m all about cream shadows like Miss J’s all about fierce! They’re easy to apply with or without a brush and play well with others (layered beneath powdered shadows, for example) or by themselves.

miss j is too fierce

Each Shu Cream Eyeshadow ($30) is available in either a matte or pearl finish with a texture that feels drier and thinner than other cream shadows I’ve tried (MAC Paint Pots, Benefit Creaseless Creams and Bobbi Brown Long-Wear). They remind me of how the MAC Shadesticks feel.

Shu says the colors are waterproof and durable, and I believe ’em. After rubbing at the swatches on my arm, I can tell they’re built to last. These will come in handy on those hot, sticky summer days when my eyelids are extra oily.

Hello, weekend

lunch-view
For lunch today I gobbled down a huge spinach salad from the French bakery across the street. It got me thinking about spinach…

I remember hating it as a kid. Spinach was one of those veggies that wasn’t on our menu growing up. I’m not sure why, but my parents just never fed it to us. Now, though, it’s like, “Where have you been all my life?”

Tonight I’ve got some homework to do for class, but after that I plan to paint my toenails and maybe go to a movie with El Hub. For my nails, I’m torn between Essie Mesmerize and Chanel Vendetta. Decisions, decisions… 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I’ve actually never really tried a cream eyeshadow mainly cause I’m afraid of the creasing that can happen. I wonder if these Shu Uemura ones would crease at all. I really love that light green color though so maybe I should give that one a try.

Whoaaa! Thirty bucks for one?! What size are these? I’ve had my eyes on these since the news of their arrival was sent to my inbox. 🙂

Thanks for the post and swatches, Karen!! I like Brown and Sand Brown.

I love the green and pink…but I won’t get the cream formula because they don’t have a very long shelf life.

Those are some great, vivid colors but bit pricey. However, if they do deliver, then it wouldn’t be a bad price to pay.

Did you try them on your lids yet?

Ohhhh man, these look really nice, but they’re a tad expensive! Plus, my Sephora doesn’t have Shu… rawr.

Oh! I was finally able to sniff Unconditional Love today, and it’s quite nice! I don’t know if I’ll buy it yet though. It’s a tad on the sweet side and I want to see what SO says about it first, lol.

Hello Karen! These look interesting, I’d love to try the light green shade…

I was wondering if you could make a video tutorial on how to apply cream eyeshadows. I’ve had a stila shadow pot (which I would describe as a mousse rather than cream, but I guess it would be similar to apply) in a lovely shimmery purple-ish colour -which I love- but for some reason I never seem to get it right…and I love your videos 🙂

I’m a huge fan of Shu Uemura’s skin care line but when it comes to their makeup, strangely, everything looks so… pastel. I mean they are like the only company that can even come up with a brown that looks pastel. Maybe it’s their minimalist packaging that makes everything look so tame and zen, unlike mac’s provocative black packaging that just screams COLOUR at you.

Those are lovely, but damn for that price I can nearly get a palette from some of the other spring collections. Not complaining, I know you have to feature brands for all price ranges 🙂

I love cream shadows and I would be happy to give these a try! I’d like to wait for the next batch of colors though, the browns look very utilitarian but none of these shades really float my boat!

I feel the same about spinach. I remember hating it when i was a kid, but now it’s one of my favorite veggies.

Anyway, I like the shimmery eyeshadows there. Love the color, perfect for summer.

Do they have a neutral peachy one? Something that is also a kind of concealer?
