Not-So-Secret Sci-Fi Tendencies and (More) Urban Decay Stardust Swatches

January 25th, 2010 by Karen 51 Comments

I was 8 when I watched cybernetic Ah-nold pop out his own eyeball in the first Terminator movie, and ever since then I’ve harbored a not-so-secret obsession with science fiction.

Consequently, it probably comes as no surprise that I’m over the moon in love with the out-of-this-world glitter in Urban Decay’s new Stardust Eyeshadows.

—– RANDOM SCI-FI TRANSMISSION —–

Are you watching Caprica, the new Battlestar Galactica spinoff?

In a nutshell, it precedes the near-extinction of humanity at the hands of man-made androids called Cylons.

Stay with me! 🙂

The show’s set 58 years before the events in Galactica, on a near future Earth-like planet that looks oddly like Vancouver, and even though Galactica seemed more shoot-em-up and space invaderish, there are still delightfully scary robots up in the mix (YAY!).

I don’t know if you liked BG, but you don’t have to have followed it to appreciate Caprica. If you like sci-fi, jump in! — and then let me what you think. 🙂

—– END RANDOM SCI-FI TRANSMISSION —–

*BEEP* LOL!

Back to the shadows (ha!). The four cuties I talk about here — Atmosphere, Retrograde, Griffith and Diamond Dog ($20 each) — perform basically the same as the others I tried earlier this month. Like those, they apply with sheer pigmentation while packing of loads o’ glittery sparkle, and they stick to my skin with minimal fallout.

When applied wet, Atmosphere, the shimmery teal with silver flecks, looks looks a lot like MAC Blue Sorcery to me. If you feel like you missed out on Sorcery (it was limited-edition), you might want to give Atmosphere a try.

Atmosphere, applied dry (left) and wet (right)

I like Atmosphere, but I looooove Retrograde, the dark shimmery purple. I dig how pigmented it is, even when I apply it dry, and if you mulled over Urban Decay’s 54 (a light purple) but thought it was too sheer to pull the trigger, take another look at Retrograde.

Retrograde

Now for sheer, glittery Griffith — I think it looks lovely when paired with golds.

Griffith

As for neutral shades, isn’t shimmery, grayish brown Diamond Dog cute? I’m looking forward to trying it with MAC Club. I bet that pair will look really pretty. 🙂

Diamond Dog

Do any of these catch your glitter-loving eye?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Don’t know either of the two shows you are talking about. Sorry 🙁

Retrograde & Atmosphere are my fave of the four. Applied wet they look fantastic. Also these would make awesome nail polish colors, don’t you think?

Huge BSG fan, and watched the Caprica pilot too… I was a little unsure about Caprica, but I think it’ll develop into something really interesting!

Retrograde looks incredible when applied wet! These shadows don’t look like they pack that much punch.

I too am a sci-fi geek, albeit a late-in-life one. I never even acknolwedged the genré until I met my husband, but I’ve quickly made up for lost time. My husbandand I were/are HUGE fans of BSG! We followed it religiously while it was on the air, and own all the DVDs. He has watched the whole series over again a few times since it was canceled. I personally think it’s one of the most well-written TV series of all time. As far as Caprica, I’ve seen the pilot three times, and am looking forward to the series, since I’m glad to watch anything written by the creators of BSG. I can’t say if I’ll live it as much as it’s predecessor, but I’m definitely along for the ride.

As far as those UD glitters, I luuurve all of them. I love small flake glitter, and those are some very wearable shades. I wish I could have all of them, but it’s not likely end up getting any of them. Woe is me. 🙁 Heh.

Retrograde and atmosphere are both very pretty. I have only watched the TV movie and a few episodes of Battlestar Galactica and I quite enjoyed the show. There is a sexier aurora about that show. I have never heard of Caprica though, but I might check it out. Is Caprica shot in Vancouver? I know BSG was. Have you been to Vancouver?

IMO, it would be May to June the weather is nice and warm but not too hot. July to August is nice too and it is definitely beach weather but can get pretty hot. July there was a week of heat wave at around 35 Celsius.

Retrograde is the hawtness!! Come to mama!

I enjoyed BSG in the beginning, but I kinda quit watching it when it got extremely dark (not that it was sunshine and roses from the beginning, or anything!) I think it was the New Caprica angle that killed it for me. But I did go online and find the series finale–WTF! Talk about a twist I never saw coming. Overall I prefer happier, sunnier scifi, like Star Trek. But I may give Caprica a try, just to see.

Karen, back to the question about applying shadows wet, I have the Ben Nye LiquiSet, but I have gotten “wet spots” on my shadows from using this. I dip the brush in the liquid, dab it off, and then swipe the shadow. Am I doing this wrong?
