Making Subtle Wishes Come True: Smashbox Wish for the Perfect Pout

November 17th, 2009 by Karen 31 Comments

Smashbox Wish For the Perfect Pout Swatches box

Resistance is futile, y’all. Lipgloss value sets are falling from the sky!

If your makeup M.O. involves subtle, sheer colors that shine, you may be tempted by Smashbox’s Wish for the Perfect Pout ($29) (one of nine new holiday gift sets from Smashbox).

Dressed to the nines in a hot pink and silver box, these six tubes will be hard to miss on many a makeup counter this winter.

The set comes with four deluxe sample tubes and two full-size ones, each shade wearable by itself as a light-to-medium wash of color, or layered on top of a favorite lippie for added sparkle and shine.

Color 411

Have I said these are sheer? Yup, that they are. There’s not a huge difference among the shades.

  • Medium thickness with a non-sticky texture
  • Semi-sheer pigmentation similar to MAC Cremesheens
  • Flavorless
  • Faint cinnamon scent that dissipates within a minute or two of application

For the holidays, Smashbox pledges to donate $1 from each purchase (up to $25,000) to the Children’s Miracle Network, 🙂 a non-profit organization helping kids affected by disease and injury.

So what do ya think of these? Too sheer or just right?

It’s homegirl gym!

Living way up here in Northern Marin County has kinda put a damper on my exercise routine. My old hip hop dance class is now an extra 30 minutes away, so I’ve been trying something new — the homegirl gym, which is basically just me sprinting up and down the stairs like a maniac while Tabs and El Hub stare at me like I’ve lost my mind, LOL! At least it’s cardio, right?

Do you exercise at home? I’m thinking about adding some light weights and new exercise DVDs. If you have any ideas or suggestions please let me know. My muffin top thanks you in advance. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I totally love those 10 minute workout dvds, the dance kind is a favorite. Have you tried Exercise TV? I know it sounds like an oxymoron but some shows are fun, like AllStar Workouts.

Yay! I love this set. I have to agree with BlovetBeauty, Pout is sexy. It’s my favorite so far, but I haven’t had the chance to try all of them yet.

Tease and Radiant look cute, but I’m just not feeling the rest of the glosses — I like my lip products to be packed with colour.

My cardio secret is my treadmill, paired with something really distracting. In other words, re-watcing Buffy or Alias!

I *almost* bought these today, but I wound up passing since I was worried the colors would look weird with my skin tone. Now that I see that they’re sheer, however, I wish I’d gotten them… especially since the Let’s Do Lunch promotion today featured a lip gloss that I thought looked great!

I was excited for this when I saw the pic of the model on their website — her berry lips are gorgeous — but it all looks so sheer and almost indistinguishable on you. Hmmmmm. May require a trip to Sephora to test out.

I tend to do home workouts when it is nasty weather outside. My old cable had on demand exercise videos so I never got bored. My new apartment building has 12 floors so I hit the stairs.

I go through phases with exercise – before, it was all about DVDs, now I really wish I had a treadmill so I could mindlessly work out indoors!) When I was into DVDs, I used Jillian Michaels’ bootcamp DVD – she’s really tough! I also found this website that offers free short, full length downloads of exercise vids (shamefully, I downloaded them and used them only a few times – but they’re free!): http://www.exercisetv.tv (not .com). If you scroll down the home page, you’ll see which videos they are currently offering for free.

You can get a crazy-intense workout at home with just bodyweight exercises. Do some googling on that and Craig Ballantyne, Brad Pilon, Mike Mahler, Rusty Moore. There is a ton of information out there! Here’s one to get you started:

The glosses are too sheer for me. I have soooo many glosses that I don’t think these will add anything new to my collection.

Since I know you like dance, try the dance workout dvds! I have a couple, and my favorite is the bhangra one. Of course I’m Indian so I am biased, but the moves are really easy and fun, and you work up a major sweat!

    eh, too sheer for me.

Exercising at home never works for me. Haha. I used to ‘abs’ yoga with a tape a few years ago but there’s no tv in my room, so I quit that.

Did you check to see if your local park has any recreational classes? I know when I used to take bellydancing class I didn’t do it at a studio but my local park [like 5 mins, walking]

Slim in Six is my dvd of choice. Its super hard, and it comes with three(?) workouts of increasing difficulty. And if I’m remembering correctly the actual dvd is expensive but comes with an ab workout. I inherited mine from a friend that got it as a present (her mom is not subtle).

Also, I like those glosses! I prefer sheer lipglosses, especially for layering.

I already bought these lipglosses as a Christmas gift for one of my friends. She has a pale complexion so I think they’ll work well for her.

I’ve actually been doing Pilates at a studio near my home, and I’m really enjoying it. There’s not a whole lot of sweat going on, but my strength and balance has really improved.

Those sure are pretty! Nothing groundbreaking, but whatev… I walk my dog Pepa at the park (maybe you could walk Tabs? LOL) and when I get home I skip a bit, do some abs and the like. Nothing much, but at least it’s something! There’s heaps of gym tutorials on the net, how about checking them out?

Not a huge fan of sheer! I’d much rather have one sheer lipgloss and use it to soften stronger colors than have a dozen sheer glosses that are barely distinguishable from each other!

Mebbe get yourself some of those Bollywood workout DVDs! 😀

I used to have a treadmill at home sitting in the living room. Then we finally got furniture so I sold it. I used it maybe 20 times in 2 years.

I just have zero motivation for exercising lately! I think it’s the cold weather and my snuggly kitties beckoning me to sit with them on the couch 😀

I like Tease, but I’d rather get that one on its own – it’s not worth getting a whole set if they all look so similar. The Smashbox Wish shadow palette I got was pretty disappointing as well 🙁

What a bummer that there’s so little differentiation between the shades. Hate that!

For my lazy days when I don’t get to the gym, I do pushups against a wall or kitchen counter along with some leg lifts and follow up with some situps. But that’s on a good day. 🙂

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick.
