Givenchy Les Poetiques Fall Collection and a Quick Hello

August 19th, 2009 by Karen 25 Comments

givenchy-les-poetiques

What’s up my around the way girls?

I’m leaving for the dentist in a few (boo!) and feeling a little bit frazzled, but I wanted to pop by to say a quick hello and share some goodies from Givenchy’s Les Poetiques fall collection.

These cuties involve three things near and dear to my makeup-lurving heart — sparkly deep blues, shimmery grays and rich purples.

The last few days have been rough (the condo ruckus, hella gray roots, Speidi, holes in my favorite stretchy pants, Mario Lopez’s abuse of “master mix” on ABDC, etc., etc.), so I’m kinda excited about this.

The cooks in Givenchy’s kitchen stirred some primo ingredients into this collection. A dollup of the deep blues from Lancome Declaring Indigo, a pinch o’ plum from Dior Jazz Club and a handful of grays from Chanel Venice equals BAM! (Emeril style!) — Les Poetiques.

A few quick notes…

  • Prismissime Eyes in Poetique Blues just might be the best Givenchy eye palette I’ve seen in a long time. The shimmery grays, purples and blues (with a touch of pink and taupe) blend together effortlessly. Light-skinned lovelies with cooler tones should rock this, Amadeus.
  • Les Poetiques Gloss in Poetique Rose is a glossy, rosy pink that seems to change colors as the day wears on, starting off as a light pink and turning into a deeper rose over the course of the day. It’s a pretty, natural lip look — so very Bella Swan!
  • Phenomen Eyes in Grey Lavender looks more like a dark blackish gray than a lavender to me and only when I pack on the layers and look really, REALLY closely. I have enough grays on the top of my head; I dunno if I need more on my eyelashes, LOL!
  • Parad’Eyes Liner in Poetique Lavender is like the liquid version of Lancome’s Declaring Indigo Gel liner. I’ll probably skip using the uber-stiff brush it comes with and opt for a pointed brush like the MAC 209 instead. Oily-skinned gals might love this liner, as it hangs onto my oily lids like a mo’ fo’.

That mascara looks like cement in the tube.. And besides, why bother with any high-performance mascara other than the blackest black?

      Hi Redhead,

Sometimes I like using color on the lashes to mix things up. Dark blues and purples are my faves. Not too crazy about the gray, though. I probably would’ve liked this more if it leaned to purple…

      Hi Tali,

The gloss is awesome. The liner’s pretty good as long as you have a great brush. 🙂

Egads! Korres is at Sephora! I think I’ve been living under a rock.

And what a very strange mascara wand shape.

PS. Karen, you are NOT helping me keep my MAC haul reasonable *lol*

      Hi Tekoa,

The mascara wand is very unusual, but I like it! It really gets those small hairs in the inner and outer corners.

LOL, let’s just blame that bit of makeup cajoling on Tabs. 😉

Hope your dentist appointment goes well.

Ahhhh, I had the absolute worst lemming for both the Poetique palettes, but when I swatched them in store I decided they were meant for people lighter-skinned than me. Blues is too cool in my opinion and Browns only had one color I could have really used as a crease/outer corner color… so I am safely passing on these. That gloss is just beautiful though.

The gloss was a nice surprise. Do you think you might take it home?

Ugh, don’t mention the dentist. I see him next week for a cleaning AND fillings (double whammy). I wish you luck though!

Poetic Lavender doesn’t look like lavender at all! It looks like OPI’s Russian Navy nail lacquer in an eyeliner (funnily enough, I’m wearing that shade currently).

The mascara seriously scares me. I like my very, very, very black mascara.

The lipgloss is strange. It looks black but it’s rose colored? How bizarre. It looks so cool in the pan I doubt I’d actually use it!

      Hi Kate & Zena,

It’s a very interesting gloss — it looks like a deep purple but applies like a beautiful pink. You gotta try it!

The dentist wasn’t too bad. At least I didn’t have to get a shot this time!

The liner looks pretty and the prism too! Not a fan of the mascara because I prefer black.

      Hi Kajal Couture,

Sometimes colored mascara is amazing (Clarins Wonder Teal from last summer = wowza!). I will always have a weakness for blue, green and purple tubes, especially. But gray — not so much!

      Hi Rae,

It’s a very pretty liner! Have you seen the Lancome one in person? It’s very similar, and I think a lil’ easier to use.

You’re so lucky to have an awesome dentist! I just started going to this new one a few months ago. So far I like him and his office. They’re very nice and cater to ‘fraidy cats like me.

I always pronounce Givenchy as “gee-vant-shee”. So what’s the proper pronunciation? The eye shadows look muy fabuloso and has all the colors I love. Now, can somebody supersize my bank account?

      Hi Dao,

      It’s ghee-vahn-shay. 🙂

I could use some bank account super-sizing right now too. Somebody needs to hook that up!

Sorry to hear about all the bummers! 🙁 I hope everything resolves soon! I am glad you didn’t have to get a shot at the dentist! 🙂

I am really lusting after that shadow palette, but OMG, I have so many lemmings right now! I have to do some serious prioritizing to figure out which direction to throw my dollars (Neiman’s beauty event is comin’ up soon after all)! I hope you have a pleasant evening, I’m going to aikido for a special Wednesday night weapons class and a pot-luck! Yay!

    Karen,

Lucky you! I don’t think in the past four years I’ve ever had an appointment without two shots of Novocaine at least! I have awfully weak enamel that requires constant fillings or replacing the fillings. It stinks majorly. The most shots I’ve had in one appointment is eight. It’s not so much I dread the dentist but I get INSANELY bored and I start to fidget. Fidgeting is not something one should be doing whilst the dentist has the drill in one’s mouth.

Now, I am insanely scared of the oral surgeon. I’m avoiding making an appointment. I need two teeth pulled out (not wisdom teeth. I get to keep those!). I’ve never been to an oral surgeon before but the name scares me witless.

It’s thundering currently so I’m dealing with a stressed out Zena waiting until the tranquilizer finally kicks in with her. She’s finally starting to calm down….half an hour later.

Oh yea, I forgot, Karen. You’re pronouncing Givenchy wrong. You’re really close but no cigar.

It’s ghee-vahn-she. That last syllable kills everyone as they want to say ‘shay.’ In French, ‘y’s are always pronounced like you would a capital ‘E.’ It doesn’t matter where it is. I got corrected by my French teacher for not pronouncing that ‘y’ sound wrong once when reading Arsen Lupin.
