Try Essence of Eye-Opening Energy for Sleepy Afternoons: Essence Crystal Eyeliner Is a Perfect Pick-Me-Up

April 18th, 2014 by Karen 9 Comments

Essence Crystal Eyeliner
Two of five new Crystal Eyeliners by Essence ($2.99 each)

Some people use coffee or tea for an afternoon pick-me-up.

Me? I like glitter liner because 1) it doesn’t give me the shakes or keep me up at night, and 2) it works almost as well as caffeine.

A little glitter on my lids or along my lower lash lines is a fantastic pick-me-up.

After lunch this afternoon (homemade tuna salad on rice cakes, which, OK, may sound weird, but it’s actually really good), I started feeling run down. I was getting the afternoon sleepies, so I thought, “needs glitter.”

I busted out Gold Rush and Twinkly Starlight, two of the five new glitter liners by Essence.

Essence Crystal Eyeliner
Twinkle Starlight (top) and Gold Rush (bottom)

They’re $2.99 each and new additions to the Essence line. They’re on the creamy side, too, because they have a gel base, so they’re a little easier to work with than your run-of-the-mill liquid glitter liner.

Because the flecks of glitter are different shapes and sizes, the formula looks bumpier and more textured on lids than, say, something like the Heavy Metal Glitter Liners by Urban Decay, which have tiny flecks of uniformly shaped glitter.

Twinkly Starlight (left) and Gold Rush (right)

Pretty snazzy if you’re aiming for a textured rock star/runway look. Only thing is, they seem to flake and fall away faster than UD’s liners, and the glitter isn’t anywhere near as shiny. Of course, considering the $2.99 price, that’s still not bad.

Perfect pick-me-ups for sleepy afternoons, or for club emergencies when you’re in dire, last-minute need of something sparkly.

Hey, it happens. 🙂

You can find Gold Rush and Twinkly Starlight now at Ulta stores and online.

Easter plans?

What are you up to, buddy? I’m on in-law duty tonight and tomorrow (El Hub’s parents are visiting for the weekend), and on Sunday we’re driving out to the East Bay to hang with my parents and brother.

Gonna be busy, but I don’t mind. Their promises to be lots of food involved, LOL! Better still, I won’t have to cook it. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Aww man! I really liked the different sizes but I hate when glitter liners flake off. These sound like the NYX glitter liners I’ve tried and I didn’t like them. Booooo!

The UD Heavy Metal Glitter Liners were my first foray into the brand. And, yes, I was going out with friends for a fun night on the town, which is why I bought them. #Funtimes. Of course, nowadays I rarely go out & when I do, it’s usually some place where glitter eyeliner isn’t the look I’m going for; or a look that’s appropriate. Lol! Definitely brings back fun memories though. Stopped by Sephora tonight to get the Naked 1 palette and happened upon their funky eyeshadow singles. I adore MAC but UD def has a special place in my heart. Glitter will never die

I prefer glitter liners with finer particles. Though not bad for the price!

I actually really like the different texture to the look of these!

I also agree that when in doubt, the answer is glitter 😀

The glitter look great but sadly they are chunkier and flakes.. though for the price they are still awesum!!
UD ones must be the best but they are pricey too.. 🙂

Hehhe… that always feels awesum to have amazing food without any hassle of cooking it.. 😉

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
