Chanel Fall 2009 Sneak Peek and Evergreen Palette Swatches

June 18th, 2009 by Karen 38 Comments

I can see it now — the shades of green, gray, rose and sienna that have defined Venetian life for centuries.

It’s late afternoon… The city is quiet, except for a distant seagull’s cry. El Hub is guiding our small gondola slowly through labyrinthine canals lined with ancient buildings that stare down at us from high above.

Coco Chanel loved Venice, and Chanel wants us to love it, too. It’s the inspiration for the company’s fall collection. 🙂

Earlier today I saw some pics of the upcoming release and took a few Evergreen palette swatches.

chanel fall 2009 makeup collection

A friendly Chanel makeup artist told me that both the upcoming fall and holiday collections are going to be heavy on the greens.

Excellent…

I can’t wait because I’ve loved some of the green-centered collections Chanel’s released over the years (2007’s Garden Party, le sigh!).

Luckily, we won’t have to wait long. The fall collection hits counters July 17.

chanel fall 2009 makeup collection eye gloss

I’ve got my eye on the limited edition Luminous Cream Quadra Eye Gloss ($65).

Chanel describes the four cream shadows as buildable gels able to go from sheer to intense, and I’m thinking they’d look lovely beneath powder shadows.

chanel fall 2009 makeup collection quad

I’m also kinda salivating over this lurvely eyeshadow quad ($56).

From the pictures, I think it resembles the Garden Party quad, but I’ve heard that the colors (a dark green, light green, gray and a rose) are richer and more intense.

I was so distracted by the fall collection that I almost forgot about the four upcoming Chanel Nordstrom Beauty Exclusives, aka the Jardin Mosaic De Chanel collection.

After I snapped out of my Chanel fall stupor, I took a few swatches…

Don’t you think the two green shadows look a lot like ones from the Garden Party quad?

I may pass if they’re too similar, but I sure like the sound of that $45 price tag. What a steal for a Chanel palette!

More dental drama

teeth

I paid another visit to the dentist this afternoon, but this time didn’t involve any needles, drills or metal hooks.

Remember going to the dentist as a kid and sometimes getting a lollipop or a balloon at the end of the visit? Well, today was a little like that, except the dentist gave me a plastic mouthpiece molded to fit the shape of my teeth!

It’s something called a night guard because, apparently, I grind my teeth in my sleep (who knew?).

The white thing in the picture up there is the cast they took to form the mouthpiece.

Cool, huh?

Too bad a couple of the front teeth broke removing the guard from the cast…

I think I’m going to keep it on my bookshelf. 🙂

We’re almost to Friday, woot!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

The nail colour for the fall collection looks totally fab- a lavender color it almost seems like (?) It’s hard to tell completely but I think it’s safe to say I love it already.

As for the “Rose Des Vents”.. while it’s gorgeous, it looks a lot like “Golden Sand.” That’s one of my absolute favourites but still, I’m not sure if I’ll wind up picking it up. Does it look like Golden Sand in person?

    And ugh, the dentist.. I’ll be seeing them soon for a root canal ;__;

      Hi Marmar,

It’s has more of a rosy tint to it, while Golden Sand is a more of a straight gold.

I’m sorry to hear about your upcoming root canal! I’ve heard that those aren’t fun. Maybe you should reward yourself with some makeup! 😉

I have my teeth molds also when I had to get braces as a teen. Its kinda weird to look at your teeth like that.

& I love, love that last Chanel nailpolish! Its sad because my name is Chanel and the only Chanel product I have Coco Mademoiselle and Chance. 🙁

      Hi Chanel,

Can I just say I’m wildly jealous of your name?

Chanel will always be here so you have a lot of time to build your collection. 🙂 You can always with something like a lipstick or glossimer — you can totes use ’em every day and they are pretty affordable in comparison to some of the other stuff in the line.

Ugh I grind my teeth too. And I think I also still have the mouth mold in a drawer somewhere! Should totally bring that out for Halloween! But insofar as makeup, I’m really digging that Rose de Vents nail polish!

You gotta take that thing out and put it on your desk so that it stares at you, ha ha ha.

Do you wear a night guard, too?

I’m a grinder also Karen. I’ve had 2 mouth pieces made from 2 different dentists, but I just cannot get used to how HUGE that damn thing feels in my mouth!

I am excited for the fall release already! I had seen some pics of some of the new collection including the 2 nail polishes that will be released but can’t tell what colors they will be, one – intermezzo is light and the other – gondola looks like a dark wine/burgundy shade. They are also releasing the gorgeous green nail polish the models were wearing during the fall fashion show. It’s called Jade and I can’t wait for that either. The eye glosses look gorgeous so I will be spending a fortune on Chanel this autumn!

HA! If they actually do green all the way up into holiday I’m in big trubs, too. 🙂

Do you have the Garden Party quad? To this day it’s one of my favorites.

I also wear a nightguard! And a retainer. Mouthful of appliances.

      Hi Kypris,

I think the easiest way to wear greens is to do a single color on the lid… pack the most color close to the lash line and then diffuse it as you move it into the crease. Curl your lashes, add mascara and you’re good to go!

It’s really pretty — a true blood red. I only did one layer of it at the counter, but I bet a second one would really make the color pop!

Oh yah, it does look similar. I’d say this one is a little less frosty and more pearl, though, and has less silver. It’s really pretty on. The Chanel MA had it on her lids and it looked so pretty!

    Hey Karen!

No I don’t have the garden party quad I thought about it but It really annoys me that I use one or two colours up quicker than the others I try to use them up but it’s not the same as wearing the collection together! The new fall quad looks lovely though. I find it really weird that the quads in the US have square shadows in them whereas over here they a little circles, I wonder why they make them different?

I’ve always wondered the same thing. I have one Euro Chanel quad and I get kick out of its rounded shape. 🙂 I think it’s just a packaging difference…

    hey karen!

i’m not usually a fan of quads, sadly. i’m more of a build your own/singles kind of gal… a lot of the dark brownish ones especially look like cr*p on my fair asian skin (makes me look all tired or sick).

the one up there looks like it could potentially work for me…

but i still love building my own palettes more (like bobbi brown’s or those mac pro palettes).

    Hi Karen!

Ha! I love your teeth as a bookshelf accessory! 😀

I am so drooling over that quad, I never got Garden Party, so I’ve gotta go for this one! Did you know that every time a Chanel case clicks, a lemming is born? LOL! I’ll have to wait to fully appreciate the swatches, though, I’m on a laptop and the color quality is pretty blah.

I’m checking in from Ashland! I was so wrapped up with everything, that I almost forgot I was coming up here this week! I saw a play yesterday (“A Servant of Two Masters”), and loooooved it! It was directed with inspiration from traditional Italian Commedia del Arte, and the whole thing was a super-colorful, energy-packed ball of fun! Also, one of my fave Ashland actors was in it (David Kelly, holla!), always a treat! Tonight I’m going to see MacBeth (aka “The Scottish Play”)! I can’t wait, I love that toothsome drama!

Bwhahaha okay I’m done. This collection looks gorgeous but is totally in the wrong color family for me. I know it’d look fine, but I would never wear it. Sigh, it’s because I’m too wedded to my bronzes, pinks and beiges. Love love love.

Yes mine kinda looks like that also. My issue is that it’s thick and goes back too far so I can’t close my mouth all the way. Then of course I drool everywhere, how sexy! I’m a light sleeper as is, so I just have trouble with it. I know I need it though…

Seeing your molds reminds me of when I had mine done. I apparently “clench” my jaw during sleep and my teeth and jaw and ear suffer for it. I have been wearing my guard for about a year now. Hopefully the guard will help alleviate your grinding problem soon. 🙂

I used to work at a dental office and the cast actually could have been done better. The white night guards cost $5 or less to make them and bruxism is a common diagnosis for dental offices to make quick and easy money. Low cost materials. If your guards ever break or dont’ fit right I would request a re-do for sure. I also did the insurance on the bruxism 9940 guards as well…they charge so much for something so minor…

The weather up here is drab, gloomy, and the warmest day was in the mid-70’s, much like at home. Most of the people I’m here with are ecstatic about that, but I wish it was a little warmer! Usually when we’re here (most often in July) the temps are in the 90’s or low 100’s! I’m pleased it’s not that hot, but 80’s would be nice!

And no, it’s not really a costume affair! The Festival part is pretty much contained in the performances, although the entire town has developed a bit of a Shakespearean motif!
