Accessory to Commit Makeup: Introducing Tarina Tarantino Beauty

March 2nd, 2010 by Karen 56 Comments

I was just walking along the sidewalk today, minding my business, when a Sephora store reached out and grabbed me by the eyeballs!

Well, it was the window, really … a display for the new Tarina Tarantino Beauty collection (exclusive to Sephora).

As soon as I saw the rows of pink compacts and faux diamonds (and wiped up the bit of drool on my chin), I knew what I needed to do!

WHEE! It’s swatch time. 🙂

A few observations and items of note about the collection…

  • Since Tarina’s jewelry’s so colorful and quirky, I was expecting crazy makeup colors too. Well, it has some of that, but there’s also a solid core of really wearable neutrals, and even the edgier purples and pinks are still tastefully done.
  • The playful yet wearable vibe reminds me of Anna Sui and Paul & Joe.
  • Big ups for the Eye Dream Hypershadows ($19), Dollskin Cheek blush ($25) and Dollskin Powder ($32); all of the powder products feel finely milled, soft and apply with concentrated pigmentation. It almost felt like I was playing with Dior!
  • The Eye Dream Hyperliners ($17) are creamy smooth ala Urban Decay’s Glide-On Eye Pencils, but instead of setting after a minute like UD’s, they stay creamy and moveable.
  • If you’re a fan of Stila’s Smudge Pots, you might like the Magic Hour Cream Shadows ($19). I think they have a similar texture and color payoff.
  • I can see Tarina’s not a big fan of matte lipsticks as all of her Conditioning Lipsheens ($22) have either a creamy or a shimmery finish.
  • Hold on to your sensitive noses because the Gem Glosses ($19) have a strong fruit punch scent that … made my stomach churn (I have a VERY sensitive nose, though).

Here are swatches of the color products. Lemme know if you’re interested in seeing the face and highlighting powders, too.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! This is all RIGHT up my alley – girly but totally wearable with enough colour to give a princess look without being too “little girl”-esque!

the lovelies that stand out the most to me are:

        hyper liner in locket book
hypershadows in bangle, rivet, and amulet
        cream shadow in purple velvet
        gloss in bobby pin

and i love that there’s a gloss named “disco nap”!! i cracked myself up when i read the name.

we’ll see what my budget allows me to splurge on from the list. if i had to pick just one, it would more than likely be that cream shadow! soooo pretty!

i’ll have to check out this smell you mention – would that be weird to just smell it at sephora?

“no no.. don’t mind me. I’m just here to smell your lip gloss.”

i’m not even a big pink fan [hello packaging] but when i hit up my local sephora and one of my favorite employees did a gorgeous pink lip look for me, i had to grab it! i left with the lipstick in showroom, and the two lip glosses disco nap and pom pom. and i have to say i love how they smell! this brand was quite the pleasant surprise for me 😀

none that i could detect 🙂 i would say you should definitely give them a shot. i’m not that big of a lipstick girl, but these are creamy, moisturizing, and somewhat sheer, which equals super wearable in my book!

Oooh, fabulous swatches! I think I need Parasol! It’s so pretty… I didn’t like NARS Orgasm or Deep Throat, maybe this is the pinky gold I’ve been looking for!?

I’m so tempted by the conditioning lipsticks too… have you worn them yet? I’m always looking for moisturizing lipsticks!

Ha! I almost bought Parasol, but then I talked myself out of it because it reminded me of NARS Orgasm. 🙂

I didn’t stick around to try the lipsticks… I was a little overwhelmed with all the colors and kind of shut down, LOL! I’ll probably go back in a few days when I have a better sense of what I want.

How are you feeling? I hope you’re doing better today.

Hahaha – I’m addicted to those kind of colors but Orgasm was too frosty for me. I have Laura Mercier Orange Blossom already, but I’m hoping Parasol has a little extra oomph? Plus the gold shimmer is just so pretty…

Oooh, I totally know that feeling. Can’t wait for your thoughts though. 😀

Aww, thanks for asking. Unfortunately the back is still in a knot and I got a migraine on top of it, so I’m just taking the evening easy. How are you doing?

Hey Karen! Sadly the migraine hasn’t left, though it’s considerably better now after some pills. I ended up going out for dinner by myself (SO went out climbing with friends) and decided to do a little shopping at Sephora with the gift card I got for Christmas. I decided to get Parasol blush and it is soooooo pretty!! I just put it on and it’s everything I wanted NARS Orgasm (too frosty) and Deep Throat (too flat) to be!

And apparently they’re giving out the free Tarina Tarantino bracelets to VIBs in store too! I got the red one and it’s surprisingly cute!

Ooh! I saw the TT line last week and hated it, but your swatches make me want to change my mind. Want to, but not actually change — even such gorgeous pigmentation and colours cannot make me love such packaging! It’s cute, sure, but pink + rhinestones is not my thing 😛

I did take a look at her line last Friday at my local Sephora. I really liked bow (matte pink) e/s but I’m wondering if it would look either chalky or like I had a skin allergy if I wore it. Also, I don’t think I’d like the eyeliner – cute colors but I like UD’s because it sets and will stay. I’ll take a second look at her lipsticks – NOT a matte fan either!
