$7 Maybelline Color Tattoo 24HR Eyeshadows: Vibrant Color for Less Than 30 Cents an Hour

January 5th, 2012 by Karen 57 Comments

maybelline color tattoo eyeshadow (2)

Dang, it’s getting so hot in here that I started sweating glitter!

I mean, just look at these colors from the new Maybelline Color Tattoo 24HR Eyeshadow line ($7 each) of what Maybelline calls “gel-cream” shadows.

24HR Eyeshadow by MaybellineThe line sure looks promising. Vibrant colors in a crease-resistant formula designed to last a full 24 hours. The 10 shades come in a variety of neutrals and brights and shimmy onto counters this month.

So…I can’t exactly remember the last time I needed or wanted to wear an eyeshadow for a full 24 hours, but you never know, right?

I’m still putting these through their paces but couldn’t wait to show you the colors. The first thing they brought to mind — okay, well, the second thing, after Kiefer’s 24 — was the much more expensive $22 Make Up For Ever Aqua Creams, which I absolutely love.

Here’s a look at the colors. Let me know if you see something you like.

Aren’t they pretty? And only $7 each! I’m really feeling Tenacious Teal, Edgy Emerald, Bold Gold and Bad to the Bronze…

Karen

These seem so good, how are they in terms of pigmentation? Would you say they’re comparable to MUA and MAC paint pots as inferior cousins?

I bought fierce and tangy and i love it. So great as a base for a sunset look 🙂 . But on a sad note i did not like pomegranate punch…… it just wasnt the right shade for me. Oh and to those asking about pigmentation, they can be layered to become much more true to color. I use tangy all over the lid, really packed on the bottom and sheered out to Karens swatches towards the browbone. KAREN! so glad you reviewed these cant wait to hear how you think they compare to paint pots and others. Much love karen 🙂

Lovely and bold Maybelline!! I somehow felt that the swatches looked a bit powdery. Btw is that sooooo longlasting like 24hrs?Are these as good as MAC Paint pots or Stila Smudgepots?
I really liked bad to bronze……….maybe I would layer it Urban Decay Good Karma eyeshadow brush and see if they glide on the layers.

Oh, Fierce and Tangy is making me smile. Both the color and the name! 🙂 I’ve never tried a gel or a cream shadow but I’m interested to hear what you think of them. The 24 hour claim is very bold but, even if it only lasts 12, that’s still awesome.

I have this in Audacious Asphalt and just love it! I actually paired it with one of L’oreals new infallible eye shadows (the ones that dupe the Armani Eyes to Kill shadows) in sultry smoke for a killer smokey eye. I’m dying to go back and pick up Pomegranate Punk and Fierce and Tangy, although I’m a bit stumped as to what to do with Fierce and Tangy.

They all look pretty awesome! I take it they are out in stores now? I gotta try a few 🙂 I like Fierce and Tangy and Painted Purple the best (I am drawn to wild shadow colors and have been known to wear MUFE’s bright yellow and flourescent orange shadows in public….). Tip I can give for wearing bright eyeshadow colors – have them match your outfit in some way (like match a tank top or funky pair of shoes), or wear with neutral clothes to pack a punch. I have also been known to sport bright and/or fun shadow in sweatpants, out hunting, and out whitewater kayaking. It can work anywhere, so I say go for it and try the bright ones if you were hesitant to!

I have Taupe and Bronze… love the color of Taupe but I definitely had minor creasing on the inner half of my lid after 11-12 hours without primer. I liked it enough that I’ll wear it again (over primer this time), but I had high hopes for a one-step apply-and-go cream shadow.

This is funny because I literally just got four of these like 10 minutes ago. I got Too Cool, Tough As Taupe, Bold Gold, and Pomegranate Punk. I absolutely love all of them and I think they definitely have lasting power because I swatched them on my hand and I still can’t get it off. Even with cleanser. They cling to eyeshadows very well and would make great bases. The only thing is they seem to crease a bit.

I’m so dang boring. I bought Asphalt and Bronze since the other colors screamed at me. I don’t particularly like being screamed at, LOL, so I passed on the other colors. I swear, the only place I could see anyone wearing that orange is on the catwalk or at a rave. But that’s just my boring opinion! 😉

I cannot tell you how long I scoured high end makeup ranges for a cream eyeshadow in the exact shade as Tough As Taupe! I picked it up the other day and so far, I’m really enjoying it. I love the shades they brought out in this collection. Just a suggestion (feel free to ignore, I mean, it’s your blog!), but I’d love to see a post along the lines of “How to Pull Off Fierce & Tangy”. It’s such a wild colour, and I’d love to see you incorporate it into different creative looks that might inspire people (like me!) to step out of their comfort zone. I’d do it myself, but a) I don’t own that shade, and b) I don’t really know how to rock bright colours.

Resa, I hope you don’t think I’m hijacking your Karen-time, but I’d really like Karen to know that I’d like info on the mattes.

I find that one great thing about matte bases is that they can tone down shimmery shadows. Though I’m a matte-lover, I happen to have a lot of shimmer eyeshadows because they are prevalent in drugstore makeup. *Sigh* (If only budget weren’t an issue!) It’s easier to add shimmer than it is to take away so when something works, I’ve go to go with it!

Please tell us about their propensity for creasing, and if they play well with powder products. Thanks Karen and Resa!

I got the pomegranate and taupe colors and I’m loving them, but I do need a primer for them to REALLY last.

I went out today to get fierce & tangy after finally talking myself into and it was sold out at both CVS stores I stopped by! I’m planning on using it as a base under golds, and specifically under my NARS Mediterranee shadow duo.

I just purchased tenacious teal today since blue is my favorite color and I have a lot of it in my wardrobe. It looks fantastic especially on my skintone (caramel). I have finally learned a way to wear bright pretty colors with an everyday look and not look tacky! I use them almost as a liner with an eyeliner brush and apply it to my lower lashline or waterline. I do a neutral look on top (usually with a cat-eye in black liquid liner). It looks great, makes the color pop, but it isn’t too much! I will definitely buy more shades and start wearing new colors everyday!!!

I bought them all since I love make up and I just got done giving myself an orange arabic look using the fierce & tangy and it looks amazing! I really love these eyeshadows. their awesome and at $7 a piece the price is not bad, especially since a little goes a long way since the colors are so bold.
