5-Minute Makeup: Bright Berry Lips and Glowing Taupe Lids

Yes, Bay Area people will wear scarves and thermals when it’s 63 degrees outside. 😂

So…you know those mornings when everything goes smoothly, and you even have extra time to do a load of laundry or stop by the drive-through coffee shop to get a latte before you start your day? On top of that, you also get to work 15-minutes early (so you don’t have to drive around the block two times to find good parking)?

Yeah…this was not one of those mornings. LOL!

I don’t know what happened, but Connor and I made it out the door by the skin of our teeth. We made it, though!

And I still managed to 1) get out of my pajama bottoms (although I seriously considered wearing them to the bakery, HA HA HA!), and 2) put on 5-minute makeup.

I grabbed what was within reach and moved with a quickness. Funny thing is, I even got compliments on my makeup today!

You know, sometimes the quickie looks are the best ones…

I think the bright berry lipstick really helped. Berry is great when you’re rushing because it’s just so colorful, and it instantly brightens up your face, but it’s usually also less labor-intensive than red or bright pink.

Also, you can pair it with a bunch of different colors. Purple and gray work, but a lightly shimmering taupe is my go-to to wear with berry. If you’re ever in a serious time crunch, go with a berry lipstick, 100%.

I took this right before starting my shift at the bakery, LOL!

Makeup worn in this look

Eyes: MAC Stolen Moment (lids), MAC Outre and Tete-A-Tint (from the Nude Model Art Palette), Maybelline Bold Brown Liner (upper lash line), Chanel Dimensions mascara (lashes), NARS Komo brown pencil and MAC Clear Brow Set (brows)

Cheeks: MAC Sur Blush

Base: Estee Lauder Double Wear in Honey Bronze with a tiny dollop of MAC Strobe Cream in Pinklight set with Chanel loose powder

Lips: MAC Amplified Lipstick in Craving

So many Kit-Kats!

I got the best treat from my co-worker today. She just got back from Japan and brought all of us sweet treats that aren’t sold here in the US!

Check out all of the Kit-Kats… They’re all different flavors, believe it or not.

I’m weirdly excited about the Raisin Witch one and the Coke.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

      Hi Nomei,

They’re from a few years back, I think I got them at Anthropologie. They have a lot of cute dainty costume jewelry and it holds up pretty well.

I love a berry lip because it’s so pretty and less serious than red. I have tried a green tea flavored kit kat from Japan and it was really good! That Coke will be interesting because they say they taste different in every country! How nice of your coworker to bring back treats from so far away!

One of my coworkers drank his right then and there and he said it tasted similar to the Coke you can get in Mexico. I’m saving mine for a special occasion!

What a lovely, fresh fall look with the bright lips!
OMG, anytime one of my co-workers go to Japan they always bring back the crazy KitKats, too!! BIZARRE flavors, by American standards. 😀

Great timing! Such a polished pretty look! I just got a Velvet berry lipstick from Lisa Eldridge called Myth. I normally don’t wear darker berry lipsticks but had to try this one. Had no clue what to wear with, this taupe is gorgeous! Would love to go to Japan! Especially to try the crazy flavored foods, green tea kit Kats included.

Ah, Diana! I’ve been wanting to grab some of Lisa’s lipsticks. How do you like it?

For me, they are a little drier than the Charlotte Tilbury Mattes I love, but still comfortable to wear. And you can use them as a stain too, lasts awhile. First time trying Lisa’s..i got sucked into the hype but have to say they are just wow gorgeous and worth trying one. I can’t wear many nudes, they wash me out gray like Pillow Talk but the Velvet Muse and Fawn tones are perfection. There’s a nude called Songbird she’s doing in the spring you should try that one Karen 😍

Such a pretty look. To be honest, if I worked in a bakery doing baking work, I’m not sure I’d put in the effort to apply makeup before my shift. I’m lazy that way.
There is a store in Ginza that sells high end flavors of Kit-Kats. And they have a tasting bar, sweet room upstairs where you can enjoy the candy with tea. I’ve never been upstairs but I have brought back flavors like chestnut and banana and raspberry Kit-Kats.
This trip we brought back summer olympic themed gifts. They’ve already started the hype there. New subway cars, new taxis, new construction everywhere. I’m trying to convince Dear Husband it will not be too hot for me during the olympics and that we should attend. Pretty sure all the hotel rooms are sold out already.
On the flight back we were waiting at the boarding gate and the woman in front of us was at least 5 inches taller than my husband. She had a very athletic build. When she turned her backpack said USA Volleyball. Go USA!

Those volleyball players are tall! WOW!

So I’ve been wondering why Kit-Kat is so big in Japan. I would really love to know why they have so many different flavors there!

      I think I would like the Chestnut Kit-Kat. 🙂

Did you have fun on your trip? And did you come back with some beauty goodies?

I just asked Dear Husband why Kit-Kats are so popular there and he said, “No idea”. I love that they have green tea ones which are different than the matcha ones. In the spring they have sakura flavor and in the fall maple flavor.
Had a great trip. Dear Husband needs to go back in December and I’m campaigning to tag along.
Picked up some brushes at the Hakuhodo showroom in Kyoto and bought a Koh Gen Do foundation because it’s the equivalent to ~$50 there instead of $77. I picked up a ton of sunscreen. I was too tired to deal with the crowds and I didn’t really see anything new at SUQQU or Addiction. Shu Uemura had a foundation I haven’t seen in the online store, but again, too crowded to deal. All the European and American brands are really expensive there, the Chanel holiday eyeshadow quad was about the equivalent of $78 there.

      Hi Patoots,

It’s an Amplified formula, which is one of my faves from MAC. I hope you try it! It’s a great color, especially for fall.

The Coke Kit Kat one is very exciting indeed! I only ever tried the green tea one, which was odd, but nice.

Amazing look! ! My goal for the rest of the week is to nail this look in 5 minutes and feel half as pretty as you look in this!

I recently had to cut my hair into a super short pixie and while the cut is cute I’m just not feeling cute in it. But I think berry lipstick might just be the magic maker 🤩

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
