Caught in the Rain With Laura Mercier: The Laura Mercier Spring 2016 Collection, “Paris After the Rain”

Here’s a look at the new Laura Mercier Spring 2016 Collection, starting with the “Paris After The Rain Eye Colour Collection (a $55 palette). While most spring collections would rather distract us from the winter blues, “Paris After the Rain” imagines a world “inspired by the reflection of lights on cobblestone streets and the dance of colours on zinc rooftops in Paris after the rain.”

Sounds like something out of a Nicholas Sparks novel, right?

The palette is housed in thick matte plastic (4″ x 3.75″ — smaller than my hand!)

Now, I should mention that I think Laura Mercier can do just about no wrong, and while every product isn’t always for me, I can usually imagine who would like and use them and how.

The Eye Colour palette was a surprise favorite of mine. With four super creamy matte shades (0.05 oz. each) and four soft glittery toppers (0.035 oz. each), it’s a versatile palette with lots of options for day and night.

A better look at the Multi Chrome Pearl Topper formula

Laura Mercier calls the baked lid colors “Multi Chrome Pearl Toppers” and suggests patting them on the lid after smudging the matte shades along the lash line. In the swatches above, it took two or three passes to build up the intensity. I think this would give a beautiful soft focus effect, but when swatched over a cream base, they really come to life!

The collection also includes two new shades of Laura’s Lip Parfait Creamy Colourbalm ($25 each) in Rive Gauche and Rive Droite. They’re creamy and comfortable on my lips and have a little shimmer, too. In texture, they remind me of the Revlon Lip Butters, only they’re more pigmented.

I decided to try two different looks with this palette: a simple look in under five minutes, and then a full smokey eye with a baby cat eye.

Le Marais blended over the eye, Champs Elysee concentrated on the edges, La Madeleine dusted on the center of the lid. Lip Parfait in Rive Droite on the lips

Rue de Vivoli patted on the lids over Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Cocoa, Tour Eiffel blended along the outer edges, and Le Marais diffused all over. Lip Parfait in Rive Gauche on lips. I had to use a separate palette to add a pop of shimmer on the inner corner

With the palette being smaller than an iPhone 6, I am a huge fan of it for bringing on the road. The only product I struggled with was matte cream Saint Germain, which had a tendency to harden under my fingers and brushes.

As of right now, the limited edition eye colour palette/collection can be purchased at Macys ($49!), Laura Mercier, and Von Maur.

Sadly, it may already be sold out at Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom.

See you in the next,

Anna

I like the color story but I’m underwhelmed.

Thanks for the review; I am also a Laura Mercier fan! I was especially glad to see the sparkly shadows are not too over-the-top for more “mature” lids 🙂

You’re such a talented artist Anna! I love your illustration.
I think this is a nice palette but not really my type. The colors are very muted and cool for me.

Thanks, the colors and your review are fabulous. I actually have a classic sateen LM color named St.Germain that’s a golden green color so I’m surprised she’s using the name again for a new collection.

Thank you! That is really interesting…I thought the matte cream was going to be like “Vanilla Nuts” (which is fab) but it wasn’t :[

Finally, a palette where I could wear every single colour. So many of the palettes reviewed on various beauty blogs have been warm-toned (which makes me look tired and ill) so this one is perfect. 🙂

$55 is a little steep, though.

    Thank you for the review!

It’s really nice to see a cooler-toned palette! A nice balance of mattes and shimmers, plenty of basics.

Awesome, great timing then! The toppers will look pretty dusted over the eye but it’s really something else on top of a good base

Anna, you look stunning!! I love the palette, and even though I am on the mature side, a little bit of glimmer on the inner corner of my eyes, gives my older skin a glow. It is definitely my go-to eye make up routine It amazes that a lot of women are afraid of the glitter. You can do it without looking like a disco ball. My favorite is the UD “Space Cowboy.” It just give my eyes a nice highlight.

I love the way the streets look after the rain, and the looks you created are both very flattering.
As I don’t like palettes, I don’t think that one will be for me though.

Both looks are great on you. There is far too much glitter in the palette for me, but I can see how people who like sparkle would get a lot of use from it. Both lip colors are very nice!
