China Glaze

There’s Lots of One-Coat Color To Love in the New China Glaze Happy HoliGlaze Collection, Part 2

October 23rd, 2013 by Karen 15 Comments

The new China Glaze Happy HoliGlaze Collection, Part 2

The new China Glaze Happy HoliGlaze collection is so good…

(How good is it?)

It’s so good that you just might lose yourself while painting your paws and forget to remove your hot rollers.

K wearing hot curlers

LOL!

Please forgive the above picture. It started as a two-minute makeup look (brows, concealer, gloss), but I didn’t make it through the rest of the process before being distracted by all the one-coaters (ONE COAT!) in the second half of this new 12-piece holiday collection (if you missed it, here’s part one).

It’s the chrome finishes, man!

Glitters and textured polishes usually steal the spotlight, and yes, there’s gobs of glitter and show-stopping textures among the six shades here, but if you’re the kind of gal/guy who loves mad pigment from a single layer, you have lots to look forward to in this limited edition release, which lands on shelves next month.

For pics of the first half of this collection, check out May Your Days Be Merry and Bright With the China Glaze Happy HoliGlaze Collection, Part 1

China Glaze Happy HoliGlaze Collection: Elfin Around
Elfin’ Around, a red rust with a shiny chrome-like finish

Elfin’ Around, a bright red polish with a hint of copper, only needs a single layer. It should look lovely on paws/claws attached to lacquer lovers with warm skin.

China Glaze Happy HoliGlaze Collection: Just Be-Claws
Just Be-Claws, a red, also with a shiny aluminum-like/chrome finish

I really dig the fine flecks of glitter in Just Be-Claws, another one-coater from the collection. It’s subtle in the way that Chanel is. Save it for toes and your most festive strappy sandals.

May Your Days Be Merry and Bright With the China Glaze Happy HoliGlaze Collection, Part 1

China Glaze Happy HoliGlaze
The new China Glaze Happy HoliGlaze Collection

Bells will be ringing and fingernails will be blinging when the new China Glaze Happy HoliGlaze Collection arrives next month.

Glitters and shiny chromes twinkle, twinkle like little stars in the limited edition 12-piece release, so if it’s the sparkly stuff that stokes your fire, BLING!

Here’s a sneak peek at the first half of the collection. Stay tuned for the second six very soon (tomorrow).

Teal and purple flecks fill Your Present Required, a multicolored glitter-fest with a clear base.

I’m wearing three coats in the pic above…

Glitter comes in all shapes and sizes, from little bits to longer bars, when the Bells Will Be Blinging. They almost create a speckled egg effect, don’t you think?

In that pic above, I’m wearing two coats.

China Glaze Happy HoliGlaze Collection: All Wrapped Up
All Wrapped Up, a midnight purple and blue glitter

Purplish blue All Wrapped Up looks downright Zoya-esque with its fine gritty finish. If you like tactile treats and textured nails, give this one a whirl. I’m wearing two coats here.

At the China Glaze Monster’s Ball, the Ghouls Will Glitter and Glow

October 9th, 2013 by Karen 12 Comments

You're invited to a glitter-ific Monster's Ball

Come one, come all! Wraiths, vamps, ghouls and guys — everyone’s invited to the China Glaze Monster’s Ball.

Contrary to popular belief, the road to a rollickin’ Halloween isn’t paved with candy corn and Mini Snickers (although that would be hella awesome). It’s paved with glitter — and lots of it! — because the contractor was China Glaze. 🙂

Monster’s Ball, the brand’s new limited edition Halloween collection, is a monster mash of glitter. Of the six new shades ($7.50 each), four of them sport sparkle in spades.

And that’s not all, ghouls and guys. There’s also a midnight-black textured polish and, for those who aren’t afraid of things that go bump in the night, a shade that glows in the dark.

In each of the swatches below, I’m wearing two terrifying coats…

Space Bound! The China Glaze Hologlam Collection

March 21st, 2013 by Karen 23 Comments

China Glaze Hologlam Collection Pictures and Swatches

QUESTION: What do stylish space cadets wear on their nails?

ANSWER: One of the 12 out-of-this-world nail polishes in the China Glaze Hologlam collection, ba-dum-bum!

Sorry. Bad pun, but with these polishes having names like “Strap on Your Moon Boots,” “Sci-Fly By” and “Don’t Be a Luna-tic,” you knew I had to go there, right? If I hadn’t, the piece of my heart that dreams of attending Star Fleet Academy and exploring strange, new worlds would have stopped…

Always have to pick the low-hanging, intergalactic cheesy joke fruit. 🙂

Now, let’s just assume that Star Fleet is lax about their nail polish regulations, and that painting your paws in zero-gravity is easier than it looks.

When you’re ready to rocket with glimmering, holographic nails, check out…

  • Get Outta My Space: A powdered violet
  • Astro-Hot: A soft baby pink
  • Infra-Red: A warm magenta-ish pink
  • When Stars Collide: A warm maroon
  • Not In This Galaxy: A bright warm coral
  • OMG A UFO: A warm mossy green
  • Don’t Be A Luna-Tic: A turquoise-aqua
  • Sci-Fly By: A light silver blue
  • Take A Trek: A cool denim blue
  • Strap On Your Moonboots: A midnight sky blue
  • Galactic Gray: A warm gunmetal
  • Cosmic Dust: A silver metal

So what are holographic nail polishes?

A long time ago (2007), in a galaxy far, far away, China Glaze started experimenting with reflective nail colors, or holographic shades (holos), and they were one of the first lines to do so in a big way.

Holos contain fine flecks of micro-glitter, finer than regular glitters, that appear to change colors in the light (from green to yellow to purple, for example).

CG’s first two holographic nail collections, OMG and 2BKEWL, were was so well received that they quickly sold out.

Arresting effects

With holos, you get galactic nail effects without the drama of full-fledged glittery nail polishes (plus, I think they’re much easier to remove).

One of my favorite things about holos is how they can look like a regular nail polish one minute, but then take off at warp speed in bright or directional light (like when you walk outside in the sun).

One minute, you’re an inquisitive Vulcan — calm, efficient, restrained. Next minute — BAM! — you’re a rambunctious Romulan ready to play!

But these are subtle, and this kind of subtlety comes at a price…

Oh, Joy! The China Glaze Holiday Joy Collection and Wythe Blue Walls

November 9th, 2012 by Karen 20 Comments

The China Glaze Holiday Joy Collection
The China Glaze Holiday Joy Collection

Friend, if you look out your window and see pigs flying by, do not be alarmed, because after today, that’s entirely possible. Shoot, after today, almost anything’s possible!

You see, something miraculous happened here today at Casa de MBB.

Today the sad, lonely dining room that still sits empty after more than three years…

dining room before

…received two new coats of paint!! 🙂

Wythe Blue

Yup, it’s really real this time. It actually happened. I have Wythe Blue walls!

Next stop, a dining room table (just like a real grownup)…

Wythe Blue

Oh, and the dining room wasn’t the only thing that got a new paint job here today. My paws also got one — or rather, a dozen — thanks to the 12 shades in the new China Glaze Holiday Joy collection.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
