*Cue birds chirping!* chirping

I think I may have literally heard a symphony of birds singing outside my window the first time I opened Rouge Bunny Rouge When Birds Are Singing Long-Lasting Eye Shadow in Rufous-Tailed Weaver ($25).

It’s like powder eyeshadow makeup LOVE in a pan.

I almost can’t describe it… One minute, I see a beautiful bronzy brown. Next minute, a gorgeous golden tan taupe and oh! — it’s also freakishly smooth.

You know those products that make you fall in love with makeup all over again?

Yeah, this is one of those for me.

Recently Reformulated Rouge Bunny Rouge Witchery Modelling Mascara in Midnight Casts Its Spell on Even the Littlest Lashes

July 22nd, 2014 by Karen 11 Comments

I’m always down for makeup magic. (Somebody pass girlfriend some eye of newt.)

Rouge Bunny Rouge Witchery Modelling Mascara ($29) leaves lashes so defined, separated and fanned out — even the tiniest little lashes at the corners — that I wouldn’t be surprised to find out they were made at Hogwarts.

That’s because magic is the idea behind Rouge Bunny Rouge Witchery Modelling Mascara and its new formula, which does not contain bat wings, frog toes, lizard legs, triethanolamine, silicone, fragrance or alcohol.

The creamy formula does, however, contain pure pigments, soft waxes keratin and conditioners to keep the mascara lightweight, flexible and easy to layer.

Seriously, pile that ish on! It does not clump.

I actually never tried the original Witchery formula, so I can’t compare this new version to that, but I can tell you how much I lurve it. 🙂

When it comes to getting those individual lashes separated and pinpoint defined, it’s bad@ss like a 20th-level wizard. The plastic brush works like a fine-toothed comb, drawing out even the littlest lashes from their secret hiding places.

Besides separating and darkening lashes (ooh, blacker than my cold, cold heart), Midnight also turns them into a ballerina — and by that I mean that it grants them excellent extension.

(Picture Ryan Gosling doing hot yoga.)

Wait, what?

I guess the most important question now is this: is Witchery perfect?

Is it the UFC-champion, gold-medal-winning tube of lash crack I’ve been looking for since, like, forever?

No, I wouldn’t say that. I don’t think it’s the world’s greatest mascara for lash curl or lift, or for increasing thickness at the base, although I do think it does some of that, but it’s a wizard when it comes to enchantingly dark, super separated lashes.

Witchery comes in two shades — Midnight, the deep black I’m wearing here on both my upper and lower lashes; and Golden Darkness, a dark auburn. They’re $29 each.

Rouge Bunny Rouge is sometimes still tough to find here in the U.S., but a few stores do carry the line, and they’re also available online at beautyhabit.com.

A Gold and Warm Brown Face of the Day With MAC and Rouge Bunny Rouge (and a Tip for Doe-Eyed Looks)

December 9th, 2013 by Karen 24 Comments

Rouge Bunny Rouge Embrace of Cashmere
Today felt like a gold and warm browns kind of day…

You might think that my down-filled winter coat gets all the credit for keeping me warm right now, but nope — that’s not why I feel downright toasty today (although the coat is helping, because DUUUDE, it’s cold outside!).

I’ve been going through a gold phase, and when I woke up this morning, the first thing I wanted to do — well, after putting on thermals, two pairs of socks and the aforementioned coat — was bust out the warm browns to wear with some shimmery gold shadows.

Ah… So warm and toasty. 🙂 I used one of my favorite easy eye makeup tricks, too. It’s a good way to add extra kick to metallic looks, and make your peepers appear rounder (think “more doe-eyed”).

MAC Ricepaper along my brow bone, MAC Bamboo in the crease, MAC Soft Brown in the crease and lower lash line, MAC Woodwinked on the lid and Rouge Bunny Rouge Pigment in Embrace of Cashmere in the center of the lid

For the gold effect here, all you need are two golden shimmery eyeshadows — one lighter than the other. Today I chose two shades that aren’t too far from each other because I wanted to keep my blending to a minimum. I went with MAC Woodwinked for the darker gold and Rouge Bunny Rouge’s new Loose Glitter Pigment in Embrace of Cashmere ($26) as the lighter shade.

I started by sweeping a warm matte brown in the crease, then patted the darker gold on the lid, blended the two together to erase any harsh lines and patted the lighter gold in the center of the lid, just above my iris.

The lighter color in the center completes the gradient that goes from the darker gold in the outer corner of the lid (the side closer to your ear), to the lighter color in the center, to the darker gold again in the inner corner.

And the gradient makes the magic happen. 🙂 It’s what makes the eyes look slightly rounder, while the lighter metallic color flashes in the light to give a little extra something to the overall look.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Naked Disguise Glide Concealer: This Bunny Is Light on (Faces and) Its Feet

August 29th, 2012 by Karen 41 Comments

Rouge Bunny Rouge Naked Disguise Glide Concealer Review

El Hub: Sweetie, are you okay? Why are you crying?

Me: I’m not crying. My eyes are just watery.

El Hub: Are you sure, babe? I think those might be tears.

Me: If I tell you, you’ll think I’m silly.

El Hub: I promise not to think you’re silly.

Me: I dunno… I was just about to chat with the gals on the blog about this new Rouge Bunny Rouge Naked Disguise Concealer, and then I started thinking about its velvety texture, and so I took out The Velveteen Rabbit and re-read it, and now I can’t stop crying.

I mean, when the Velveteen Rabbit becomes real at the end…?

FREAKING PMS!

El Hub: It’s okay. Put down the concealer for a second, and I’ll go get you Charmie and make you a cup of ice cream. I think we have some Three Twins Sea Salt Caramel in the freezer…

Me: (Sniffs) Really?

El Hub: You’ll feel better after you take a break, and then you can talk to your friends about makeup. I know that always makes you feel better.

Me: (Sniffs) Alright… 🙂

Rouge Bunny Rouge Blush Wand in Titian: This Barely-There Bunny Hops Away Like a Hare

August 27th, 2012 by Karen 35 Comments

rouge bunny rouge titian blush wand review

Have you ever tried explaining the idea of no-makeup makeup to your significant other? Did he (or she), like El Hub, drift off into space as you broke it down, bullet-point style? Did their eyes glaze over as you described, in painstaking detail, your quest to find a perfect barely-there blush in a no-makeup makeup color?

If so, I may have found something to help.

Rabbits.

In a manner of speaking.

Or singing. 🙂

Here comes Peter Tabbytail, hoppin’ down the bunny trail, and he’s carrying RBR’s Blush Wand in Titiaaaaan.

Rouge Bunny Rouge’s $34 Blush Wand in Titian isn’t exactly drugstore magic, but it’s capable of casting a spell or two.

The pricey, albeit perfectly natural-looking, peachy cream stick blush hopped on the scene eariler this summer with its cotton-tailed cousins in the Rouge Bunny Rouge Mistral Collection.

I swipe it straight from the stick on bare skin, or atop foundation and/or powder, and then blend out any visible edges with a finger.

Unfortunately, this bunny is also kinda skittish and disappears after about four hours…

Yup, it doesn’t last very long, at least not on my combination dry/oily skin, which means that it’s a good thing the packaging is so doggone cute and convenient.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
