5 More Places to Buy Makeup

October 28th, 2008 by Karen 25 Comments

Last week I asked y’all where you like to buy your makeup. Not surprisingly, most of us prefer to shop for makeup at Sephora and MAC stores, but department stores like Macy’s and Nordstrom weren’t far behind.

But beyond those well known makeup outlets, here are a few more sources that may not be on your radar yet…

1. Amazon.com

Pretty soon Amazon’s gonna start selling trips to the moon because they already sell just about everything else, even makeup and beauty. Check out their discounted shipping program, Amazon Prime. For $79/year, you get free 2-day shipping or optional 1-day shipping for $3.99/item on a huge selection of already marked down products. I find that just about everything I buy from Amazon is eligible, and it really works out if you buy more than a couple things from Amazon.com per month and don’t like waiting 5-7 business days for your stuff.

2. Boots

I lurves Boots! The company was founded in Nottingham, England by John Boot, who opened his original shop in 1849. They burst onto the US scene a few years ago, and now the brand is carried at Target and other drugstores nationwide, yea! Their website doesn’t sell direct, but it does have this nifty Skin Wheel doodad, whee!

3. Walgreens

Walgreens? Never heard of ’em, LOL! That’s not likely seeing how there are almost 7,000 Walgreens stores in 49 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam. Walgreens carries a ton of drugstore makeup, has a great return policy (just keep your receipt!), and many stores are open 24 hours/day.

Through Oct. 31, they’re offering a free 12-month gift subscription to Marie Claire magazine with any purchase of $10 or more on select Beauty Insider products from the Walgreens website, so you could stock up on Biore Cleansing Cloths and get a year of Marie Claire for free.

4. Drugstore.com and Beauty.com

Two stores, one shopping cart. Stock up on beauty swag over at beauty.com, throw in some dental floss and deodorant over at drugstore.com, and then do one checkout for everything. New customers save an additional 10% on beauty and spa products and get free shipping with coupon code BEAUTIFUL at checkout. Straight up, drugstore.com has great prices.

5. Shoppers Drug Mart

If you’re ever north o’ the border and running low on concealer, stop by a Shoppers Drug Mart. They’re Canada’s largest pharmacy chain with more than 1,000 stores operating under the names Shoppers Drug Mart in nine provinces and two territories, and Pharmaprix in Quebec. They carry a wide selection of drugstore and department store makeup brands like Benefit, Boots, Clinique, Smashbox, Lancome and more. Their website doesn’t fulfill orders, though, so this is more for future travel reference than anything else.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. SPOILER ALERT! So whadja think of The Hills last night? Can you believe Audrina dumped that sweet Aussie boy? Damn, I was so Team Corey.

I shop for makeup all over the place. I think my all time favorite is Ulta because they do the drugstore thing and they also have counters with higher end stuff. I pretty much shop everywhere though. I found at TJ Maxx last night a ton of great Stila products: a rouge pot (2.99), a little palette with a blush and some shadows (4.99), and a compact with brozner (3.99). I was so jazzed.

Walgreens is great, they have Wet n’ Wild, my ultimate frugal makeup brand 🙂 Amazon.com sells everything these days, I even saw fake LV bags sold there. Just clicked on the Marie Claire thing and saw this: a hairstylist who is a dude recommended tampons!

You are so lucky to live in US! I live in Canada and we don’t really get that much discount on makeup. If I ever travel in the States, I would stock up on brands we don’t have here – I just hope the tour guide will take us there. cross my fingers

I only saw The Hills go to CABO then I had work to be done. dang, but I think justin bobby is kinda shady. C’mon, you always flirted girls out of her radar n’ now he’s sabotaging her? selfish couldnt even describe how I felt bout ‘im.

Shopper’s Drug Mart is awesome because not only do they carry high end brands like Dior, Guerlain, Bare Escentuals etc…but they also have a reward points system & if you time it right, you can get 20x the points on your purchases. They also have a few weekends a year where if you redeem your points you get extra $! So far I have bought a digital camera, Dior quints, and loads of other makeup using points. One more great thing about Shopper’s is they often put LE items such as perfume gift sets , makeup sets & discontinued colours on clearance. I once got a Givenchy Very Irresistable gift set for $35.00. Just the other day I saw Benefit’s Powder Pop palette on dale for $19.99!

Obviously I’m a big fan. Wink.

I cant believe Audrina broke it off with Corey like that ! Its like she just dumped him. She almost had no sad emotion on her face…infact she kinda looked happy to be back with Justin.
Well, Justin is the bad boy but he is smokin hot !

Don’t forget about Dollar Tree & Big Lots. They both have some nice drugstore makeup at good prices. My local Dollar Tree has some nice selections of L.A. Colors products. Last week I found some really nice foundation there for a $1.00. Not to mention lip gloss, I have my own personal stock just from them!

Amazon Prime is awesome and such a bad thing at the same time. Ever since I signed up, I find myself shopping there more often but it rocks.

OMG… I was Team Audrina until she dumped that sweet Cory. Did you see how sad he got? The boy even asked her to spend time with him down under. Seriously? Will you be watching The City with Whitney in December?

    Hi Holly,

GIRL… Walgreens is awesome. When I worked in SF my building was two blocks away from *two* of them and I swear I was there every day! You’ll love it!

Have fun hauling at Boots. I’ll be with you in spirt!

    Hi Marisol,

I end up doing the same thing. It’s so instant gratification, it’s not even funny.

HECK YAH I’ll be watching Whitney’s show! I always liked her and think she seems *very cool*. Will you be watching it too?

Have you be watching The Island? It’s so dumb, but I’m going to watch it anyway tonight to see who makes it to the end.

I will so be watching. I haven’t been watching the Island. I hate to even say this because I was a hard core Real World and Road Rules fan but lately the past few seasons haven’t caught my attention. I can’t even tell you the last one that I watched. My fave will always be Real World New Orleans.
