Eureka! Found another epic liner for tightlining, and it’s almost — almost — as epic as Chanel 88 Noir Intense.
Oh, and it costs 40% less ($19 vs. $33). 🙂
It’s $19 Antonym Cosmetics Noir Waterproof Eye Pencil, and the only reason I can’t completely turn my back on Chanel 88 Noir Intense is because I still like 88’s skinny twist-up tip. I think it’s better at getting down there between the lash roots than Antonym’s tip, but it’s doable as long as I keep the tip sharp.
It’s coo’.

Thankfully, the pencil comes with its own sharpener, which is handy for that.
Noir by Antonym is matte, waterproof and black — the blackest black — so there’s no blue, grey or green in it. I think it’s just about as dark as Chanel 88 Noir Intense. When it’s pressed up at the base of my lashes on my water line, my lash bed looks dense and super thick, like I’m sporting many more lashes I actually am.
It’s also long lasting on my water lines. I get a good eight hours without any fading…after it sets. *AFTER IT SETS* is key here, though, because it does take a while to completely set.
So it sort of sets in two phases, too. It takes 2-3 minutes for it to initially dry (during which time it’s soft and smudgy like a MAC Eye Kohl, so you have time to play), and another 20 minutes or so for it to completely dry down. Basically, when I apply it to my water line, I get a little bit of transferring onto my lower lash line for about 20 minutes, but I just clean it up with a Q-tip.
But once that 20 minutes is over, this won’t move anymore. AT ALL.
I’ve also used it to line my bare upper lash lines, and as long as I give it the time to set, it doesn’t creep into my crease.
If black isn’t your thing, it also comes in brown (which I’m gonna eventually try someday too, because I like this pencil that much). You can find it at Sephora and online.

Hi Karen
Happy New Year to you and yours 🙂
That liner is amazing , it reminds me of Marc Jacobs eyeliner , black and brown ( coca ) so amazing , matte , love it 🙂
You look so beautiful! What are your wearing on your face that makes your skin glowing?
Cheers
Bebe
Hi Bebe,
Happy New Year to you, too! I’ve never tried that Marc Jacobs liner. It sounds super pretty! Thanks for the nice compliment. I’m wearing a couple things by the same line, Antonym. The foundation is their Skin Esteem foundation in Tan, and the setting powder is the Baked Foundation in Medium Dark. The blush is Cheek Crush (also by Antonym). If you have any questions about the line please ask. I’ve seen them online at sephora.com.
The eternal struggle: extra money (for the convenience of the twist-up) or extra work (but saving money). I am not sure where I stand on this debate…

For you the hair looks cray? For me it absolutely looks Yay!!! I love a good eye pencil and tight-lining is the best invention since my tiny hooded eyes became older (and even smaller lol).

I love the look of tightlining but, for someone with dry eyes, mine seem to always make my liner run. In fairness, I’ve only used UD. But, I have Chanel on my list. Someday. 🙂
I’ve been liking your coverage of Antonym because I’ve been curious about the brand! Your skin looked great in the baked foundation post, Karen. (Going to look into that further since you compared it to MAC MSF)
Would you say that that you have to apply that 20+ minute guideline for Noir on the lash lines and between the lashes as you do for your waterlines? I’m also always on the hunt for a inky, smudgy but long-wearing eyeliner. The blackest I own is MAC Feline, but it’s frustrating how messy it gets throughout the day! (And I’ve tried every technique)
Thanks, Katie. I hope you can find a shade of the Baked Foundation that works for you, because unfortunately the selection is kinda limited. Good thing Sephora has a great return policy. 🙂
Anywho, I have MAC Feline, too, and yes it smudges like CRAZY! When I wear Noir on my lash lines and in between my lashes I don’t get a lot of transfer in the long run, but there is a touch of smudging in that first 15-20 minutes. Not hardly as much as Feline, though, which gets all over the place no matter what I do. I think it depends also on what you happen to be wearing on your lids or lash lines. I wore Noir the other day on my upper lash line on bare lids, and it didn’t transfer into my crease at all, but then I’ve also worn it on lids prepped with a creamy concealer (sometimes I like the slip it provides when I’m blending) and it smudged more than it did on bare lids. I think you might like it if you can be cool with it transferring just a touch overall. I haven’t tried yet setting it with an eyeshadow but my gut tells me that will help lock it down faster. Let me know if you have any more questions about it or anything else in the line. I’ve tried almost everything except for the regular blush (I have tried the highlighting blush, will have the review up soon).
