Tonight on The Rhinovirus Chronicles, Karen has been wearing the same pair of pajamas since yesterday, and she smells like Vicks VapoRub…
But that’s neither here nor there right now. Right now we’re talking Dolce & Gabbana, specifically the new Dolce & Gabbana Shimmer Glow winter collection. Here’s a quick video recap to go along with the bloggy review. (I recorded this a couple days ago… You do not want to see what I really look like right now.)
Lots of cool tones and gray here. In fact, I’m wearing that weird gray lipstick (Moon 69) in the video.
Now all I need is a matching suit of chain mail…
Achoo!
Your sniffly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Debra says
Winter Glow is a better name for this collection!
It’s like 1970s/1980s with 2015 mixed in. I could never wear that much face bling. My lips would vanish. But on you, it all glows. Even the Chain Mail lipstick.
I’ve been using VicksVapoRub at night for allergies. I happen to love the smell.
If you are up to it, boil a large pot of water with a tbsp of VapoRub in it, turn off the burner, put a towel over your head, stand over the pot and inhale. Later maybe El Hub can clean the pot!
Take care. And just to let you know, Englebert Humperdinck Please Release Me 1985 popped up on the youtube cubes after your video ended. Not sure what algorithm brought him but by 1985 he should have been released!
Karen says
Hi Debra,
How odd! I kind of love the Englebert showed up… call me cray.
Anywho, so, Vicks! Have you ever put it on the soles of your feet before bed? I do that and I don’t know if it’s psychological but it seems to help.
LindaLibraLoca says
Hope you feel better soon, having a cold is horrible!
And If you are still looking for a set of chainmail, I could help you out. Lightweight and doesn’t pull out hair, I promise.
Karen says
LOL! You make me laugh. Why do you have chainmail?!
Kiss & Make-up says
Hahaha, your intro… 🙂 Isn’t it crazy how fancy make-up can makes us feel all ‘ooooooooooooh’? I agree, the packaging of the lipstick looks suuuuuper pretty. Moon actually translates really well on your lips, it really is kinda wearable!
Karen says
Totally. I get that swoony feeling with Dolce and Chanel, especially. 🙂
I can’t believe this week is flying by so quickly! Hope yours has been good.
Kim says
I watched this (without sound.. work!) and even then I was smiling and laughing along with you. You’re very expressive and an excellent enunciator – I think I caught quite a bit (you can layer other products on top of it…). 🙂
I hope you’re feeling better today. I couldn’t help laughing at the Rhinovirus Chronicles comment, though. And, long live Vicks. It really does help.
Karen says
You make me laugh, dude! Btw, did you see that you are this week’s reader of the week? 😀
Kim says
I did! I totally lost my mind in the Monday Poll comments and immediately told the Hubs and my bestie. I’m such a crazy that I thought I might cry (seriously, though, I was super duper excited and very moved and grateful to be picked!!). YAY – thank you so much! <3
Fran says
Feel better soon, Karen! Colds are so miserable.
This collection is really beautiful on you, even though I know you feel more comfortable in warm tones — this just looks a bit more dramatic than most of the looks you wear, I think you did a wonderful job making it work.
I adore silver and gray eye shadows — those and blue-violets and periwinkles are probably the most flattering on me with my very cool undertones — so I’m going to have to look into this quad for sure! I don’t wear shimmery lippies very often, I feel like they make my lips look huge. But that quad is really calling to me.
Karen says
Hi Fran,
Thank you! *sniffs and takes a sip of tea*
I think you will enjoy the quad. Dolce & Gabbana’s eyeshadows are such a dream to blend (very smooth and buttery); I think you’ll have fun, especially if you’re into smoky eyes. Do you have any sort of creamy white glitter around like Chanel Fastasme? Because I gotta say, when that glitter’s layered on top the quad really seems to come to life!
Fancie says
Aww Karen I hope you feel better!! I hate being sick. I’m completely useless when I’m under the weather lol. You’re such a trooper!
Karen says
Thank you, Fancie! 🙂
Estefania says
KAREN. HOW. How do you skin.
Seriously your skin looks amazing! I’ve been eyeing that Angel Rose lipstick… Do they feel gritty at all?
Karen says
Hi Estefania,
Aww, thanks! Let’s see, for this look, I did a 50/50 mix of the new NARS foundation with L’Oreal True Match Lumi (I skipped primer because those two foundations seem to do better without a primer), which I patted on with fingers. Buffed it all down lightly with a kabuki brush, then I went back in with a little more foundation (and fingers) on the areas where I wanted more coverage. Then I did spot concealing with a tiny bit of Laura Mercier Flawless Fluide, patted it down lightly with a Beautyblender which I had wet with water and then sprayed Fix+ on. For the under eye I used NARS Radiant Concealer in the inner corner, which I buffed down with a tapered brush wet with Fix+. I then went back in with YSL Touche Eclat (seriously, it takes a village) which I dabbed kinda underneath in the hollows of the under eye area. I then took what was leftover on Touche Eclat brush, and ran that down the bridge of my nose, in the center of the forehead, around my smile lines, right above the cupid’s bow, and on my chin. Then I blotted all that down with the Beautyblender.
I let the product sit for a bit, and I set errrrthing with a light dusting of Chanel loose powder.
HTH! If you have more q’s let me know! 🙂
As for the lipstick, no grit, which is good! It’s just super glittery. You could totally pull it off!
Estefania says
Yay about the lipstick! I might pick a couple of them up if they’re still around for my birthday (I’m eyeing Nude and Angel Rose).
Now, THAT is dedication. Haha. Most workdays I’m lucky to even get some concealer under my eyes! I love taking the time to really DO my makeup, though. Nothing like a flawless base!
Karen says
Dude! You could totally do the gray lipstick. It’s crazy in the tube but I think you could work it. Soo… The face makeup is kind of intense because I planned to take pics. For every day, the routine is much more paired down. Just a little bit of foundation, concealer, maybe some powder if I’m feeling it. Or just concealer, a little bit of powder and setting spray!
How has your week been?
LindaLibraLoca says
My phone won’t Let me reply directly, so here the explanation for the chainmail:
I do LARP, also called Live Action Roleplay, or at least I did until Little Bean was born. Therefore I own a whole set of armor, tailored to fit my shape.
But I am afraid the chainmail is the only part I could give you, as I am quite tall.
