Most of the times when I go to HomeGoods, I’m dressed caj with minimal (or negligible) makeup, but sometimes I like to go gladiator style and do my hair and makeup and get a little more dressed up so I can enter the store like I’m entering an arena.
YES, HOMEGOODS IS A MOTHER-TRUCKIN’ ARENA.
Granted, there are no predatory animals, javelins, swords or armored warhorses galloping at you while you admire a delicately painted lemon bowl (handmade in Italy!), but if I see you pushing your cart toward the last farmhouse-inspired botanical print, trust that I will body check your @ss into the stratosphere. 🙂
I don’t play around at HomeGoods!
The Coywolf and I were there today to look for herb pots for the Lady Sanctuary, and I wore this golden bronze halo eye.
This was a toned-down halo eye, and the highlight in the center of my lids wasn’t as strong as it is in a classic halo.
This was the middle of the day, so I took it down a notch by keeping the golden highlight relatively close in tone to the surrounding bronze shadow, but I didn’t want it to be too subtle, so I layered it on top of a shimmery gold pencil liner and did a swish of teal on the lower lash line.
Urban Decay Beached Summer Collection
To keep the focus on my lids, I kept my skin, lips and brows super chill, but I did wear some things from the new Urban Decay Beached Summer Collection, namely the palette, a bronzer and a gold eyeliner.
If you feel like giving this look a try, here’s what I’m wearing and the steps I followed.
Subtle halo eye
TOOLS (things I used are in italic)
- A face primer (Urban Decay Urban Defense Complexion Primer)
- Eyeshadow brushes: a flat brush, a domed brush, a tapered brush and a pointed brush (MAC 239, MAC 217, MAC 224 and a pointed brush from NARS)
- Face brushes for applying and blending concealer, powder and bronzer (MAC 140, Hourglass Veil Powder Brush and a Real Techniques Contour Brush)
- A brow gel (Hourglass Arch Brow Gel in Dark Brunette)
- A mascara (Tarte Lights Camera Lashes)
- A brown liner (MAC Coffee)
- A shimmery bronze eyeshadow (Wedge from the Urban Decay Beached Eyeshadow Palette)
- A gold eyeshadow and eyeliner (Urban Decay Beached 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Goldmine and 16th St mixed with Blaze eyeshadow from the Urban Decay Beached Eyeshadow Palette )
- A shimmery teal eyeshadow (Plunge from the UD Beached Palette)
- An under-eye concealer (Make Up For Ever HD Ultra Concealer in Y33 and Y41)
- A liquid skin tint (Urban Decay Naked Skin One and Done in Medium Dark)
- A face powder (Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder)
- A matte bronzer (Urban Decay Beached Bronzer in Bronzed)
- A nude gloss (Urban Decay Lipgloss in Fuel)
STEPS
- Blend the face primer all over your face, and let it dry while you start the eyes.
- Curl your lashes if you want/need to, and then apply one or two layers of your mascara.
- Fill in your brows with the brow gel.
- Tightline your upper lash line with the brown pencil.
- Sweep the matte bronzer into your crease and along your lower lash lines, and blend out the edges.
- Pat the shimmery bronze eyeshadow on your lids, stopping just short of your crease, and blend it into the bronzer.
- Line the center of your upper lash line with the gold pencil liner, and then draw a few short lines parallel to that line on your lid to create the base of your halo eye.
- Pat and blend the gold shadow on top of the gold eyeliner.
- Feather out the edges of the gold, blending it into the bronze eyeshadow in the inner and outer corners of your eyes.
- Line your lower lash line with the teal liner using a pointed brush.
- Smooth the face tint wherever you’d like extra coverage.
- Hide any dark circles, and do any other spot treatments you’d like with concealer.
- Dust a sheer layer of face powder atop everything to set your base.
- Sweep the matte bronzer on your cheekbones, around the perimeter of your face, and across the bridge of your nose.
- Apply nude gloss. 🙂
When’s the last time you’ve been to HomeGoods? What did you get?

Love this look on you, the palette looks stunning! I can see your cute little fashionista is totally on board with it too 🙂
Hope you had a great time at Home Goods! Out here in Canada our equivalent is called Home Sense, and I get super excited shopping there. It feels like a treasure hunt 😉
Karen says
Hi Mia,
That’s exactly the same reason why I love shopping at Home Goods! 🙂 Today I went in some herb planters for my deck garden and left with some pots and a ceramic navy and cream four-cup measuring cup with the cutest cat design on the front. It’s very Anthropologie!
Rachel says
What did you get at HomeGoods?!
We only have a TJMaxx here but it’s the same company and there’s lots of Home stuff. I usually come out with the most random assortment: nail polish, chia seeds, shoes, you name it! This time of year they have good deals on planters and pots.
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
The same thing always happens to me too, and sometimes in the past I’d leave without the one thing I originally went in for! So now, I make sure I have a list before I go in, and I have a set budget otherwise I go CRAY. LOL!
Today I left with what I needed — a few pots for the Lady Sanctuary. Gonna go to the gardening store tomorrow to get some herbs for them (chives, flat Italian parsley if I can find it, and thyme).
Do you know if there’s a certain day that’s the best day to go? I think for our HomeGoods it’s Thursday.
Rachel says
Oooh I used a lot of garden parsley last year. You can even sub it for cilantro in homemade salsa! Not sure if there’s a certain day our TJMaxx gets shipments I just avoid going there on the weekends because it tends to be busy and picked over.
Karen says
I didn’t know that you could sub parsley for cilantro! Good tip, thanks Rachel. 🙂
Happy Friday, by the way. What are you up to this weekend?
Rachel says
I would like to get my garden going but I don’t think the soil is warm enough yet, ah the things you have to consider living in North Dakota! But I will do some yard work I think.
Sometimes the soapy taste of cilantro is too overwhelming for me so I looked up what to use instead and someone online said that parsley and cilantro are in the same family. Parsley won’t be as strong but will still give it a little something something. 🙂
Karen says
I’ve heard that’s an issue for some people. I love cilantro myself, but I try to avoid using it when I make food for other people because I know it’s something you either love or hate.
We had a parsley plant with curly leaves last year with one of our tomatoes and it practically overtook the whole pot! Ended up giving most of it to the neighbor’s rabbit.

You look fab in this fotd! way to do the low key glam, girl! and connor claire is such a cutie in those striped leggings and pigtails. what a cute pair y’all make. I think I will have to try this look using my Chanel Alfresco palette, since the teal, gold and bronze are in there. I have yet to use that pretty teal!
Karen says
Hi Lorraine
This look would be perfect for that palette! When you do a look will you please send me a pic?! I would love to see.
Hope you had a nice Thursday. 🙂

You look so good in those neutrals! The Beached palette looks great in your swatches. I think I have dupes for some of the colors–or at least close enough. I don’t think those orangey brown colors look that good on me anyway. Love the blues though. (Modern renaissance was a regret.)
I love HG too. My whole Christmas table setting (minus the china) was from HG this year. It was time for a refresh. They have such an odd assortment of things sometimes but miraculously, I was able to make it all work together.
I meant to comment on an earlier post but I didn’t have time and then I forgot (story of my life.) Thanks so much for the reco on the loose mineral foundation. I’ve been using it over Face and Body and it’s awesome. It doesn’t settle into my fine lines and makes a great finishing powder. I like it more than the one in the compact. RE: the limited color range. The MAC guy said the shades were limited because they were more forgiving–I was medium plus. Any who, thanks! I don’t even need concealer with this magic powder!
Karen says
Hi Kelly,
Ya know, I’ve never tried Face & Body with Mineralize Loose! Will do that today. 🙂

I am not sure what the equivalent to Home Goods would be in Germany, so I really can´t tell. But if I find out, I´ll wear this beautiful look.

Sweet!

You are a brave woman – I’d have to glue my eyes shut if I went to Home Goods. Either my eyes or my wallet! I’m happy to see you had some extremely photogenic company for your trip. 🙂 Of course, I immediately gravitated toward Heatwave because you know I’m all about LOOKING at red shadows. Like, in the pan or on others. HAHA!
I must tell you that I went on a hunt for UD Zero and had no luck but I know I have a stash that I haven’t come across. What I did come across was about a kazillion samples from Sephora that I’ve not used. So, I’m trying at least one per day. This morning was a foundation from Armani (luminous silk). I do like the finish, but it’s not particularly pore blurring. Last night, I used a Farmacy Honey Drop Moisturizer. I think the results were good but the texture and smell were not winners for the Hubs and me. I’m not sure he’ll continue to be my sample testing partner. HAHA! Oh, and I had a deluxe sample of Hypnose, which made me happy since I’m waiting for my Faux Cils to arrive. I still fine Hypnose to be great for length.
Karen says
Those Sephora samples pile up fast, don’t they? You know what I was thinking the other day? Their rewards program isn’t all that. Every time I get to the counter and they ask if I want to cash in on my points I almost always say no (that time they had those cute pins was an exception). I’ve gone online to see if there were other rewards available and the good stuff is always sold out!
Anywho, if you find anything good in your stash you’ll have to let me know.
Kim says
I feel the same way. I’m always like “no thanks, I’m saving up for the new car”. Then I probably lose points because there is never anything I want. I sort of have a laundry list of complaints about Sephora but, I like the convenience of ordering from one place for almost all my stuff and I like the samples. 🙂

Oh my goodness, the picture with Connor sticking her tongue out kills me! ? This is a really nice look!
Karen says
LOL, she’s going through a phase!
BTW, she is a cat lady through and through. You should see her with Tabs… So sweet and gentle.
Tatiana says
That’s a gorgeous look you created! I was wondering if that was a new palette because I hadn’t seen it before. Connor Claire is so adorable. Love the photos with you two!
Karen says
Thank you! The colors are fun… I love summer shades!
