The minute I sat down with the new Urban Decay Ammo palette, Tabs jumped up on the couch, pushed Ammo aside and started making biscuits on my lap.
Perhaps this impromptu biscuit sesh happened because I reeked of tuna fish and onions (um, guess what I had for lunch!), or maybe the universe was trying to tell me something…
Maybe the universe had something to say about Urban Decay’s habit of re-launching previously released eyeshadow palettes (like the Feminine, Dangerous and Fun palettes from late last year), and how it’s a little like Tabs and kitty biscuits, in that, sure, you know the drill, you know it’s going to happen when you sit down a certain way on the couch, but you really can’t do anything to stop it, so you just sit back, relax and enjoy. 🙂
The palette thing does get a little confusing, though, especially when UD releases new palettes with old names — names they’ve used before — like with their latest re-lauch, Ammo ($34), which is based on their original Ammo palette from a few years back.
Same name, same 10 colors (UD bestsellers!), but these use Urban Decay’s newer eyeshadow formulation.
UD also revamped the packaging, swapped out the old sponge-tip applicator for a mini-eyeshadow brush, and added a sample-sized tube of their primer potion.
Basically, it’s an updated version of Ammo. Ammo 2.0, so to speak.
Like the original palette, the products in this new Ammo are divided into two rows. You can mix and match any of the shades together, or use the recommended pairs.
Each column of colors creates a recommended duo; my faves are Chopper and Sin, because I just like how neutral they are, but I also like wearing the trio of Smog, Maui Wowie and Last Call together.
I have the original Ammo palette, and I have to say, although I get less fallout from these shadows, I can’t help but wonder if Urban Decay really had to do this again.
I mean, I love shouts-out to the past (says the girl who’s always talking about her eighth-grade dance), and this palette has a nice mix of long-lasting colors (they last me all day), but it would have been SO GREAT if UD had hit us with something completely fresh and new.
PRICE: $34
AVAILABILITY: Coming to Urban Decay counters, Sephora, Macy’s and Ulta stores this spring, but it’s available now online at urbandecay.com

Hmm… I had mentally written this one off thinking it wouldn’t work for medium-tan complexions. But some of these shades are rather surprising. I especially like Last Call and Maui Wowie. To buy or not to buy… Decisions decisions…

Tabs is so sweet, making his biscuits!
I don’t own the original, and I definitely wouldn’t wear all of the colors, but beautiful, as usual from UD. I don’t actually own any UD shadows, maybe I should change that once I get some money!

I think this is a great palette to start with if you’ve never tried UD’s shadows! As a certified UD palette addict (I own 8 large sets!), I’ll be passing just because I have the colors in other sets.

I love the color combinations of this palette but I always passed on it since I am not a fan of the old UD eyeshadow formulation. Now that they’ve updated it with the less-fall-out formulation, I’ll be adding this to my collection. 🙂

I don’t have the original Ammo Palette, and I do like these colors, so it’s something to think about.
Speaking of cats making biscuits, Missy has a new habit of every morning jumping on the bed WAY before I need to get up, and making biscuits on my pillow, which then means she’s tangling up my hair. Nice…..

Awww look who’s making biscuits <3 Tango harasses me 5 times a day doing that too 😉
I used to really love UD, but after a couple of palettes everything feels a bit same old same old. The quality IS there, but I keep hoping they'll do something that impresses me again. Maybe I've just grown mode jaded since the original Naked palette? Hmm.

Kitty cat is so cute. I would probably pass on this palette. Looks a little to shimmery for me and not a fan of most of the colors.

WHYYYYYY do I keep needing purple eyeshadows? I love them!

I remember having Ammo palette. Newer formulations? I agree with you, Karen… I’m not sure if they needed to make an updated one. But I still love the colors nonetheless!! 😀

I never owned the original Ammo palette, so I might check this one out. I like the non-neutral colors.
Tabs making biscuits is the cutest! The only one of my kitties that does this is Ella. Once she’s done working it out, she will settle in on my lap for a long time. I guess there’s worse things in life than being held hostage by a cuddly kitty. 🙂

While I don’t own the older version of the Ammo palette, and I think this looks great (I need some shadows that aren’t neutral!), it does seem like Urban Decay has gotten a little off track. Most of their “new” stuff is just repromotes. I used to think of UD as an innovator, but lately they just seem tired.

I’m sure as a marketing strategy they look at their best sellers and re-release with ‘upgrades’ as you mentioned. I don’t have the original Ammo palette, so re-releasing it is probably for people like me and UB sure wants to cash in on all those gift card dollars.

So cute! I’ve never heard of kneading being referred to as “making biscuits”, haha. Very cute 🙂

I have the original ammo palette. It’s the first UD palette I bought probably like 5 years ago and I still use it to this day. I have major dips in the pans but haven”t actually finished any of them because I now hoard so many LOL. I broke the palette mirror so I broke off the bottom with the shadows and it lived in a ziplock bag for quite some time, now it’s depotted into a zpalette.

That’s the first time I’ve heard your voice and for some reason it sounds nothing like I expected. I don’t know what I was expecting, exactly…anyhow Tabs is so cute.
I can’t believe how pigmented Polyester Bride looks in that swatch- guess it’s the re-formulation. I remember it being really sheer with big hunks of glitter but the last time I had it was in one of their now vintage “Face Cases.”
The only thing I didn’t like about the old formula (the fallout never bothered me too much) was the way the shadows would dry up in the pan. Easily fixed by wiping off the top layer but still when you are paying that much per shadow it shouldn’t happen. I’m guessing that doesn’t happen anymore?

I have the original Ammo… I even bought a second one when it went on sale to make way for the reformulated one. I don’t know why, but I keep going back to it. I have so many other collections, colors, etc… but something about this one keeps sucking me back in and I use every single color to death. Glitter fallout is a problem for most people, but I love it. Maybe somewhere along the way I failed to grow out of the glitter stage. Oops. =)

I recently bought this palette on the UD website cheap!! I love it. I had no idea the columns were suggested color pairings though, so thanks for that tip. LOL…

I bought this palette recently on Urban decay website(5 months ago) except it didn’t state it was from ammo palette or edition. It was under UD favorite shades and it was only 13 dollars for 10 shades in the palette since it was sale.the original price was 18 I believe. Of course when I saw the price I ordered It right away. The pigment is amazing.I just toOK out the palette to check of everything was in the same order (shades names, color)and yes it is! The package is slightly different …it is all matte black with a purple font that says UD and few skulls and gun in velvet material but nowhere does it say amo
