It’s a good thing my immediate supervisor is a cat because most human beings would wonder why I’m sitting here at my desk sniffing my arms and hands…
It looks pretty weird, especially when my eyes roll back in my head. I’m glad I don’t have to explain myself to a disinterested 20-pound tabby. 🙂
But if I were to do it anyway, I’d tell him, “Hey, man! I’m wearing Soap & Glory Righteous Butter body cream, and it smells divine!” — just like one of my favorite fall/winter scents, Chanel Coco Mademoiselle (although some gals feel that it smells more like the now-discontinued Dior Miss Cherie).
I LOVE this brand, and not only because their products smell amazing (although that’s a big plus) and their pink packaging is way cute (also helps too!), but also because of the size of the line.
They have a full range of face and bath stuff, and everything I’ve tried works great for my dry skin. I really like their Righteous Butter body cream, their exfoliator, their hand cream (which is on my desk right meow) and their foot cream. My skin is considerably less alligator-like when I regularly use them.
I began to panic a little starting a few months ago when I noticed a dwindling amount of Soap & Glory stuff being carried at Sephora, and then one day, it was all gone! Panic much!? Maybe a little…
But as it turns out, my panic was for naught because — yay! — Soap & Glory is now available at Ulta!
Homie, seriously, if spend any more time at Ulta, they’re going to have to set up a rollaway bed and a feeding station for Tabs, and I’ll be going even more often now that I know I can get Soap & Glory.
Remember when the brand lowered their prices a few months back but kept the same sizes? (Really, who does that??) I thought that was very cool.
Next time you’re shopping at Ulta for yourself (or enabling others), check out a few of my Soap & Glory favorites, especially if you like the scent of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle and/or have impossibly dry skin…
You can also find Soap & Glory on Ulta’s website, and right now they’re offering a free gift with any $25 Soap & Glory purchase. You’ll get a travel-sized jar of The Righteous Butter (offer good Sept. 11 through Sept. 19, or while supplies last).
Purple glitter and macarons
Cute notebooks and steno get me every single time. This month I fed my steno habit/addiction with this glittery purple spiral notebook from Staples and these adorable macaron sticky notes from Papyrus.
They’re both on my desk right now (next to the cat lady weekly planner I found at Barnes & Noble), encouraging me with their cuteness. 🙂
Now I need a purple gel pen to match the notebook! I got the idea from my OB/GYN, who always uses purple gel pens to write stuff down, and I get a little steno envy every time I see it. LOL!
I had a quick checkup yesterday, by the way, and got another glimpse of Baby Girl.
She’s getting so big! I got to see her umbilical cord on the ultrasound for the first time and heard her heartbeat.
She says, “Hi, Auntie! Have a nice day today.” 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

WOW! Now I really have to check out Ulta. I have been looking for an inexpensive skincare/soap line for my “uber-dry” menopausal skin. I have to pick up something for dinner and it sounds like a quick run to Whole Foods and the new Ulta store in the Commons near by. Thank God payday was yesterday.
BTW, WOW spelled upside down is MOM! Glad to hear all is well.

I’ve never tried Soap & Glory, even though I’ve seen them around for years at Target back in the day and Sephora. I’mma need to try the body butter, you’re like the second or third person to recommend it.
Anyway, I have about five purple pens at my desk at work, as well as a Lisa Frank multi-colored pen, some hot pink pens and green pens. Black and blue just get to be boring sometimes!
Elena says
I bought the soap and glory sugar crush body wash from Ulta. Love it! I have used their hand and body cream before too. I love that they lowered their prices too (and kept sizes the same).

Hi Karen! Thanks for the post, as always! BG’s sweet little wave makes me ask: Do you think you’ll do a post or comment on if/how pregnancy has changed your tastes, style preferences, and makeup looks? When I was pregnant strong product smells were out of the question, some textures seemed more/less appealing, and my favorite color changed from reds to blues. (My cousin commented that maybe you’re so overstimulated that a “cool” color suddenly seemed way more appealing. Interestingly, it was a permanent change.) Everyone’s pregnancy is different, but I know many women experience things like this in different ways. I’m interested if you have!
Karen says
Hi Amy,
Hmm, that’s an interesting question! Well, I don’t think so far my style preferences for fashion or makeup has changed much, although during the first couple months pregnancy, I had a strong aversion of scented products.
A big part of it was my sense of smell; normally it’s very fine tuned, but during the first couple months of pregnancy it was very acute, so much so that I pretty much hated the scent of everything, LOL! I couldn’t stand the scent of the fridge, or of food being cooked, or garbage cans that were (kid you not) five houses down. I could tell you what my neighbors was cooking, what direction the scent was coming from, and whether or not they were frying onions or garlic or boiling pasta.
And forget about scented lotions or body washes. I couldn’t take it!
All of that has subsided though and I’m more or less back to normal in the scent department. I think my husband is relieved; he got tired of me mentioning who was doing laundry and what detergent they were using. LOL!
How many kids do you have, by the way?
Amy says
We have one. A boy. We were open to more for awhile, but I started late and never thought I’d be a mom in the first place, and now he’s all we need or want!! I’m so glad you’re feeling back to normal again. ?
Karen says
Oh how wonderful! 🙂 How old is he? What’s his personality like?
I’m glad I’m feeling normal again too. That first couple months was rough! I just kept reminding myself that it was temporary (although it always didn’t work, truth be told, especially when I was crying over everything).
Amy says
He’s 8 and gets more interesting every day! Very empathetic, loves animals, loves trains and science… A good mixture of things. It’s such an adventure to see them grow and change daily. You’ll have so much fun getting to know BG!!

Hiiiiiiii baby Jessica! <3 <3

Ugh, I really need to move to the US. After having spent (and a shopped) three weeks in the US I am convinced that Europe just hates beauty lovers and is trying to boycott our beauty addiction.
P.S.: Hiiiiiiiiiii baby!
Emma says
Soap and Glory is a European brand 🙂
Kiss & Make-up says
Oh my gosh, I am such a tool, haha! I’ve never seen it where I am though, so I just assumed it was American.
P.S.: I still totally stand by what I said about Europe missing out on so many cool beauty brands! 😉
Stephanie Hofmann says
The Flake Away definitely works but the scent is so horrendous! It reminds me of a cheap dollar store old lady perfume. I do think it works well though but he smell…ugh ?
TrippyPixie says
So excited! Hand Food saves my hands during winter. When Soap & Glory pulled out of Sephora, I was worried that they wouldn’t be coming back to the U.S. for a good long while!
Speaking of planners and the like, I just found out that my custom planner shipped today. So excited. Also, I saw a set of macaron-shaped erasers that smell like vanilla at Barnes & Noble. I’m pretty sure that I need them in my life.
Ruchita says
I have yet to try Soap and Glory products. The Righteous Butter looks great. I’m always on the lookout for good, moisturizing lotions.
I am a sucker for cute office supplies. That cat planner is great! Did you ever have a Trapper Keeper back in the day? 🙂
Karen says
I did! I had a few of them, but weirdly enough, I don’t remember the designs!
The best thing about the cat planner, by the way, is that it was $10. I’ve been seeing really pricey ones online and was thinking of getting one, but then I ran into this one and it works great. I use it mostly at my desk for daily to-do lists.
Rachel says
My skin is so sensitive and irritated all the time, I can’t use any of the fun, good smelling lotions. I think I’m on the verge of having eczema, especially on my upper arms, but I don’t really want to go to the doctor and get a prescription so I’m just trying to manage it with fragrance free soaps and lotions. Say Hi to the baby! Can’t wait to meet her!
Rachel R. says
Nice! I ran out of the Righteous Butter.
Tatiana says
I was so sad when I saw the Soap & Glory stock dwindle at Sephora. Couldn’t figure out why they were discontinuing the line. Glad Ulta picked them up, even though I have to shop Ulta on-line since there aren’t any Ulta’s nearby.
Baby girl is growing! If you don’t mind me asking, how many weeks along are you? It’s ok if you don’t want to announce it publicly.
Karen says
Hi Tatiana,
Me too! I’m so glad that they’re still around. 🙂
So, I’m just about to finish up my 15th week, and yes, she’s getting big! I get such a kick out of seeing her in the ultrasound pics, especially her feet and her legs. She’s really popping out of my belly too, which I think is cool.
Say hi to the kitties for me. I know your oldest is Nora; what’s the name of your younger one?
Kwmechelle says
I’ve never tried anything from this line but it sounds like I should. I have über dry hands & I need a good smelling, effective hand cream to keep in my purse. Hiiiiiiii baby!!!!! 🙂
Karen says
Do it! They also have a travel size Hand Food for $5 I think. It’s really moisturizing and smells lovely!
Kwmechelle says
$5 + it smells good + it’ll turn my scaly skin hands into paws wrapped in silk = guess who’s going to Ulta tomorrow? This is why I come here. Aside from the fab photos, wonderful creative writing, & latest buzz in beauty, I always get great recommendations to solve the world’s most pressing problems (smile). Old man Winter & constant hand washing have finally met their match. Thanks, chic.
P. S. I went to the Kate Spade Outlet yesterday & nearly lost. My. Ever. Lasting. Mind.
Karen says
Well now of course you need to tell me if anything there made it home with you! Don’t leave a sista hanging. We’re talking Kate Spade here!
Kwmechelle says
Of course, you’re right! Her name is Durham Wellesley & she’s peony. Her best attribute? Aside from her well crafted, sturdy material & “hidden” outside pocket + cross body strap is that she was 60% off. That’s right. Not a typo. SIXTY PERCENT OFF! Once I learned that, she absolutely had to come home with me. I plan to go back & get a polka dot wallet. I refrained from looking at the accessories. It was hard enough choosing ONE bag. But I did see an assortment of studs in a candy dish at the register. How appropriate because they looked delicious & totally reminded me of a pair you’d featured here on the blog. I’d been wanting a loud, bright, in your face, fuschia, nearly neon Kate Spade purse for awhile. Def couldn’t be happier with her. One day, she’ll have sisters who’ll also come to live with us 🙂
Melissa Valdez says
I just ordered Soap and Glory products. I can’t wait to try them. I am so glad your pregnancy is going well.
Heidi says
Someone brought me a tube of the Hand Food when I was in the hospital and I really love it! I’ll have to explore more of the line.
Chelsea says
Hi baby girl!!
I’ve never tried any Soap and Glory items. I loooove Ulta though, so I’ll have to check it out.
Karen says
ME TOO. I could spend hours in there (and have). Guess who’s bunny sitting again?! 🙂
Chelsea says
Ooo,Quincy is excited to hear that!
Kim says
Baby Girl is going to give Tabs a run for his money in the modeling department! She’s already got a little flair going. 🙂 I read your reply above about the smells and I was the same way. Everything smelled “off”. I could even smell the difference in the rooms in the house. And I couldn’t eat garden lettuce for a long time (normally I love it) because the smell was turning my stomach. So weird.
I’m so glad you’re going to be able to keep your S&G fix, thanks to Ulta! And I do the same thing (move around to get a whiff of a delicious smelling lotion, usually on my hands). 🙂
PS Happy Friday!! I almost forgot what day it was.
LindaLibraLoca says
Soap and Glory is one of the brands that is actually easily available here, but I never got around to try some of their stuff. Something always distracts me whenever I plan on buying stuff… I need to be more focused!
