I’m in shorts right now! So let’s chat about bronzers!
I recently created a look inspired by Diane Von Furstenberg’s Spring-Summer 2016 makeup because I wanted to challenge myself to finally use some colorful eyeshadow. And…I loved it! I can’t wait to experiment with more colors now, and I would love your suggestions for eyeshadow looks!
Anyways, besides the bright color on the lids, the focus of my look was all on the tanned skin. I used two different bronzers to get a multi-dimensional effect. I grabbed the Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Bronzer in 02 Medium ($37 for .74oz!!!) and dusted this all over the perimeter of my face and the tops of my cheeks. This is my favorite bronzer, and I use it all-year! It’s not completely matte, so it blends into skin perfectly.
Finally, I finished with the Too Faced Bronzer in Chocolate Soleil ($30 for .35oz) right in the hollows of my cheeks.
As you can see from the swatches, Bronze Goddess is reddish in tone compared to the neutral/brown Too Faced bronzers. I love both of them equally but for different purposes.
The products I used in this look:
- Make Up For Ever HD Foundation
- Maybelline Fit Me Concealer
- Hourglass Diffused Light Ambient Lighting Powder
- MAC Honolulu Honey Blush
- Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Bronzer – Medium
- Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzing Powder
- $2 Eyebrow Pencil from Daiso (Got it on a trip to Seattle)
- Maybelline Color Tattoo in Electric Navy
- Makeup Geek Foiled Fantasy Eyeshadow
- Makeup Geek Peach Smoothie Eyeshadow
- Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara
See you in the next!

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil is my all time favorite product for contouring. Love that it’s completely matte and non-orangey. It can also work as a bronzer as well because it’s not too cool toned. =)

Hey Joyce!!! It’s the only thing I use for contouring as well. I haven’t ventured into truly cool contours, yet.

There you go with those amazing eyeshadows again 😉 I am working on a look that incorporates green, blue, red-orange and yellow so this is excellent timing! I haven’t used Chocolate Soleil in awhile – I have WAY too many bronzers – but certainly need to pull it out again 🙂

Love your eye look! It’s colorful and subtle all at the same time, so pretty 🙂
Anna Oh says
Daw thank you Susan 🙂

Love the eye look. You wear colorful eyeshadow well. My go to fave bronzer of all time is by Guerlain. It’s one of their Terra Cota bronzers & I wear it so much until I maybe getting ready to hit pan ?

Gasp, I know the one. It’s always been in my Sephora cart but I just haven’t been able to commit because my Estee Lauder and Too Faced have been serving me well enough. One of these days…

I bought one of the too face chocolate bronzers in too dark a color and I used it as an eyeshadow, you should totally try it, it blends so so well
Indya says
Now THIS is a first. Hi India!
Anna Oh says
Haha! Hi India! I’m gonna try this out, it’s a wonderful brown
Indya says
Wow, you look stunning! I’m on a no-buy but as soon as I finish it (or break it, siiigghh) I am going to check out those Estee Lauder bronzers!
Anna Oh says
They come out with this Bronze Goddess EVERY summer in an amazing tortoise packaging. I also have a lot of nostalgia for Estee Lauder because it was the only thing my mother used, but I think Estee Lauder is often overlooked in the makeup realm.

That turquoise really brings out the depth of your brown eyes. I’ve always envied brown-eyed girls 🙂

I always loved blue-grays on brown eyes. I think this look is beautiful on you.
I was very clever to use a slightly darker and matte bronzer in the hollows of the cheek for more dimension. *taking note*
I’m really fair-skinned,so bronzers are a PITA for me. Milk Chocolate Soleil is by far the best I’ve tried. I was glad to see it shown here.
Anna Oh says
I die, thank you!
I have never ventured into cool contours and I’ve loved the effect of layering bronzers for the time being…they really do look quite different on the skin!
I would also even try using a powder foundations a LITTLE darker than your skin too, if you are very pale!
Rachel R. says
The powder foundation idea is genius! I actually have some that I occasionally use as an eyeshadow base since I couldn’t return it. I’ll have to play with it now. Thanks for the tip.

Your eye makeup is gorgeous here!

I’m starting to see that just about ANYTHING will look gorgeous on you! <3

Very beautiful makeup look! I have never tried the famed Bronze Goddess bronzer but it looks like it might be a good match for me because bronzers with red undertones work well with my skintone. I do love the TF Chocolate bronzers, I have the bronzer wardrobe which is a little ~extra~ but hey, a bronzer for every season is a must, right? 🙂
Anna Oh says
If you love a great red-toned bronzer, you may love Bronze Goddess all over because it’s not mega matte. It feels like this bronzer has been around since I was a kid so I love that I am still using it as an adult 🙂 There can never be enough bronzer, NOPE!
Erin says
The only bronzers I tend to like are Guerlain. I did just see that TF Terra is pretty cool toned. Sometimes I’ll use Chanel Les Beiges in 30 as a bronzer. I also have BB’s 01 bronzer which is ok. It’s a bit warm for me so I use it more like a blush unless it’s the height of summer. Being cooler toned it’s rought to find a bronzer that doesn’t look muddy on me.
Anna Oh says
I’ve had my eye on the Guerlain and Bobbi Brown (in Medium) bronzers as well…I haven’t been able to commit yet though!
I also use NARS Blush in “Madly” for a blush if I don’t have time for bronzer/contour. You should check it out because it’s like a tea rose color that also helps define my cheekbones.

I love this look that you created. You’re eye shadow is amazing. And overall, It doesn’t look like you have that many products on.
BTW, I love Too Faced bronzers! I like that Jerrod created so many bronzers because he wanted women to get a glow safely. (His sister and avid tanner had had Melanoma.)
Anna Oh says
Hey Sakura, thank you 🙂 Also I didn’t know that back story behind the bronzers! Thanks for sharing…sun protection is SO important
Jhoanne says
I love your eye look. How did you do it? Hope you could post a tutorial.
Thanks in advance
