Remember when Too Faced made a mascara that was “better than sex?” Well, this one is even better than that one because it’s waterproof!
Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara ($23) works magic in every department now — volume, length, and (now) curl.
Feeling upgraded in every way, it’s packaged in a heavy metal tube with a water-fleck texture like the one I fell in love with from the MAC Alluring Aquatic Collection (2014).
Waterproof mascara isn’t for everyone, though. For some, it means blinking away black flakes, dry crunchy lashes, and even losing a few eyelashes trying to take it off, but I think this is one of the better waterproof mascaras I’ve used, and it’s worth a try if you’re looking for a new one. This one’s now my favorite mascara for special occasions.
Better lashes, here I come!
So, the wand on this mascara is ridiculously huge, and my first few tries with it were super messy. I’m not sure if the wand has to be THIS big, because sometimes the product can collect into clumps on the brush.
But since I love the way it makes my lashes look, I can overlook a few messy applications. The jet-black formula really sticks to my lashes, but instead of weighing them down like the original Better Than Sex Mascara does, this one holds them in place.
Multiple layers are also possible because of the slow-drying formula.
Now, even though your waterproof lashes look amazing, what do you do with them at the end of the day?
Removing waterproof mascara
You grab Too Faced Mascara Melt Off ($17), which you swipe right onto your lashes, and the oil-infused formula conditions and literally “melts off” waterproof mascaras.
The main reason I don’t wear waterproof mascara more often is because cleanup is so difficult, and even though I always use a separate waterproof eye remover, this mascara still doesn’t budge easily.
But Mascara Melt Off works great and takes less effort. I just let it sit on my lashes for a full minute before wiping off the oil and the rest of my eye makeup with a warm makeup wipe (I warm the makeup wipe by running it under hot water).
These products were made for each other, and Mascara Melt Off really works.
See you in the next!

I know I should be looking at your lashes but I just can’t get stop staring at that flawless smooth skin of yours! As for the mascara, I just got the regular version yesterday. Have yet to try it though.

I use the regular version in the pink tube all the time! It’s great as a layering mascara for thickening up the lashes.

Thank you so much 🙂 Let me know how you like the original!

Hi Anna,
I’m a waterproof mascara kinda girl because it’s the only mascara these days that holds a curl. One thing I’ve found that helps to make removal easier is to massage a makeup removing oil onto my lashes when it’s time to take off my makeup in the evening. The idea is very similar to the Too Faced product, which seems really cool, especially since I’ve never seen anything quite like it before.
Anywho…your liner! It’s sharp enough to cut glass, I love it!
Happy Friday. 🙂

Thanks Karen!
I guess I always felt weird letting the cleanser sit on my skin for so long, so I never thought to think of that! The oil really is the only thing that will take this sucker off though 🙂

I tried this mascara, but it didn’t stand up to the waterproof claim for me. I tried with and without using under eye cream & also primers, but it didn’t last- I ended up with raccoon eyes! I’m going back to my Lancôme definicils waterproof. Glad it worked for you!
Anna Oh says
Claudia, thanks for the comment! I’m so surprised by that–especially because it’s so difficult to remove. Good thing you still have a great holy grail to fall back on!

I don’t like waterproof just for that reason, so maybe I should get the Melt Off. But on the other hand I am not missing the waterproof in my mascaras, so I probably just stick with regular ones.

I didn’t like the original, so maybe I’ll give this one a try. Your lashes look great!

Thank you Lupe

Waterproof mascara is a necessity for me.

That’s genius! I can’t believe I haven’t heard of this product…I usually just use jojoba oil, but this might be more convenient.
Anna Oh says
Hey Dana! Let me know how that goes for you 🙂 You could compare it with your jojoba oil + clean mascara wand one day too! I might try that out one evening just to see, you know?

Ooh this is actually the first time I’ve read anyone’s opinions in the melt-off formula, and I’ve been dying to know if it really works!
I usually hate oil based cleansers and removers because I always end up with oil in my eye and foggy contacts. it’s a problem!
that said, I’ve been wondering if this option would go a bit more smoothly since the application is more targeted….
have you tried it on a not-waterproof mascara formula? or would that just be overkill? either way, I guess I’m going to have to give it shot! 🙂
Anna Oh says
Oh no, sorry about the contact thing! I know that issue, but only use the oil cleansers @ night after the contacts are out and the glasses are on!
I HAVE used it on non-waterproof and it’s even better. Im not sure about you, but I would always wake up to racoon eyes (even though I swear I removed ALL my makeup).
jonirae says
I know!! I will take a folded makeup wipe and like… actually pinch my lashes between the fold and kinda wiggle… it will come back clean and then the next morning — raccoon!! it’s infuriating!
I am not all that, um, regimented, let’s say, when it comes to taking my contacts out every night, lol, so the cloudy thing has been an issue pretty frequently… but at least if I’m sleeping in contacts I am at least removing the makeup, right? …right?
😀
I have been considering lately if I should be wearing waterproof, if only because no matter what I do or how little I touch my eyes, (also a struggle) my bottom lashes always end up leaving a shadowy smudge on my under-eye area… even if I hardly even put barely a tint of mascara on the bottom! Would waterproof help that?
Anna Oh says
Contacts dried my eyes out so bad! My favorite part of the day was getting those suckers out…usually well before bed time too! And yep, at least we are getting the makeup off xD
A waterproof will DEF help there. I’ve also heard setting the under eye with some eyeshadow or powder could also help. MAYBE try a tubing formula too. I find tubing mascaras to flake off more than smudge off–which is not great either–but if I don’t touch my eyes, it can look flawless.

I have to repeat a comment at the top of the thread here — Your. Skin. Is. FLAWLESS!

Oh my, blushes, thank you!
