I’ve been trying to get myself out there more in the beauty biz lately, going to more work lunches and work coffees, partly to get out of the house/baby jail, and when I do venture out, Connor usually chills with my mom, but also to network and get some different perspectives and career ideas.
I don’t really think about not blogging on MBB, but it’s been 10 years, and I do feel the urge to spread my wings and also try other things. I don’t know, really.
So when I’ve gone to these lunch meetings this summer, I’ve worn Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes in Spice to quite a few of them. In my opinion, it says, “Yes, I’m responsible…but I also know makeup, and I can blend the living crap of the outer third if need be.”
LOL!
Ironically, or at least interestingly to me, lately when I’ve meet people who work in the makeup industry, most of them aren’t wearing a lot of makeup. I used to expect that people in the biz would, because, you know, they’re in the trenches, but most of them don’t do a glam full-face beat to go to coffee on a Tuesday.
When I go to these meetings, I want to make a good impression, and I like the pairing of warm golden bronze Spice with a matte powder shadow in my crease (usually MAC Soba or Saddle).
Then I tight line with some black liner and add a couple coats of mascara.
I think it’s an elegant, timeless, professional eye look.
Spice is $46 and, therefore, crazy expensive, but I recommend it to anybody with a 30-plus or 40-plus lid situation who’s looking for one brown cream shadow to rule them all.
Most shimmery brown shadows are frosty and almost metallic, but if you have fine lines or hooded lids like I do, those frosty metallics, while super cool on the pages of a glossy magazine, draw more attention than the bat-signal.
Tom Ford Spice isn’t blindingly frosty. It’s glossy and has fine pearl, but it isn’t like stepping in front of a 40,000-watt Hollywood searchlight.
Actually, when I wear it on my lids, I think I may even look a little younger and less tired. That could be wishful thinking, though, HA! I didn’t sleep well for a few days last weekend when it was 100+ degrees here like Death Valley, and when I looked in the mirror this morning I thought I saw Uncle Fester.
I don’t think you’ll find easier cream shadows to use than Tom Ford’s, either. They feel wet and airy, almost like Cool Whip, and they’re easy to scoot around on your lids (you have about a minute to play with them). They don’t tug, and I’ve never had a pot dry out on me. These babies stay creamy for years.
On that note, #makeuphoarders. LOL!
They’re also long-lasting and easy to build up in layers, so if you DO want to do a glam full-face beat, you can. This one also works well with most of my neutral palettes.
I would PANIC if this were ever discontinued, y’all. Like full-scale orange alert.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Karen,
I think as you get a little older, you don’t need to be “on trend” that much. You should be comfortable with who you are. I also believe that the “less is more” philosophy works better at this point in our lives. As much as I love checking out the new products each season, I know most of it will not work for me and I tend to stay with the simple look that does fit my style. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have fun now and then! I am loving a cream shadow with a warm or cool brown powder shadow in the crease as well. A little liner, mascara, blush and lip color and I am out the door! Live is good!!!

I guess if you are surrounded by makeup, and if makeup is work for you, you don’t really want to be on trend in your personal life. like, to separate work and private life a little? At least that is what I imagine. I mean, I never worked even close to the industry, so this is all speculation.

Honestly, I hope I can collect all of these someday!

Karen, you’re KILLING me with these Tom Ford Cream Color pots!! This one and burnished copper…I can haz them all?!?! ?
I’m choking on that price tag, especially since I need to buy at least the two you’ve shown us. If I already have MAC Constructivist, do I need these? How much more amazing are these than Paint Pots?
Karen says
Hey Bailey,
Yeah, they’re kind of epic. But soooo painfully priced though! So, I have Constructivist and love it too, but it’s completely different compared to the TF cream shadows. The Tom Ford version doesn’t really dry out. You know how MAC Paint Pots eventually pull away from the walls of the pot and crack? The TF ones stay wet, like, for years! I probably shouldn’t be hoarding them for so long but whatevs. Also the TF ones have more of a glossy finish rather than a shine. Do you live near a Nordstrom with a Tom Ford counter? Nordstrom is pretty good about hooking people up with samples; maybe ask them to make you a couple in one of those small jars and test drive it for a little bit. That way you can really be sure if you like it since it’s so pricey, ya know?
Bailey says
I have a Nordstrom near me but I’m not sure if they have a Tom Ford counter. Probably, I mean they have an Anastasia brow salon so I’d be surprised if they didn’t carry TF. Thanks for the idea! I may have to go there this weekend to swatch and cross my fingers for a sample…or empty my bank account, either one.

Can you recommend a color in the purple and/or mauve range please?

I always have a soft spot for Tom Ford and this color is gorgeous. I’m thinking of getting that anti-droopy eyelid surgery just so I can wear this. 😉
