Tom Ford’s gorgeous gunmetal Caviar cream shadow is many things: enduring, easy to blend, and it’s basically everything you ever wanted for the easiest smoky eye ever (just add black liner and mascara), but none of those are why it holds a special place in my heart.
It’s special to me because it’s what I was wearing when Connor said the word “eye” for the first time.
Backstory: she already knows some of the words for body parts, so if I say “Show mommy your ears,” she’ll point to her ears. She just hasn’t said many of the words yet, but last week when I was wearing Caviar on my lids with a Cargo black pencil on my lash lines (my eyes were a little dramatic that day, which is how I roll on a Friday afternoon!), I was changing her diaper and talking to her when Connor pointed up at me and emphatically said, “Eye! Eye! Eye!”
Uh… She was pointing at my makeup! I was almost ready to ask Tom to be her godfather, haha!
Caviar cream shadow is available in the permanent line for $46. It’s a cool-toned gray with secret shimmer from little bluish silver flecks of micro glitter. At some angles, it reads almost like a blue-gray, which is awesome for classic smoky eyes with black liner on the water and lash lines, but it just really pops in general with dark blues or navy, sapphire — basically any dark blue liner.
If you’re all about rich, dark blue liners, try one with Caviar sometime, and have your mind blown!
Oh! — Caviar also rocks with neutral- or warm-toned nude pink lips IMO. This one I’m wearing is called MMMM from the new MAC Nicki Minaj. Love it.

I’m loving that! Man, I just found out our nordies just got a TF counter. I should have them try it on me.
Karen says
Ours did too recently! It’s heavenly!

Such a sweet story! The color definitely has a lot of dimension. I don’t generally wear black makeup (I wear black mascara for performances, I normally wear brown or bronze!) but this is a gorgeous color. The other colors you’ve shown of this formula are gorgeous, but the price!
Karen says
Hi Chelsea,
Yeah, it’s killer. Sephora does have the entire line available though, so next time there’s a sale you can grab one at a discount!
CL says
Whoa! $46.00? Never gonna pay that for one eyeshadow.
Karen says
Hi CL,
Tom Ford is cray-cray expensive, for sure. I do have to say his cream shadows are some of the best I’ve ever tried, and they never dry out.

Oh, that is such a sweet story! She get´s her love for makeup from you then I guess. A great and expensive taste your daughter has.
Karen says
Oh gosh, I didn’t even think of that! She already has a penchant for designer makeup, oh nooooes!

I’m not surprised that Tom Ford even inspires babies to take note. 🙂 Has Connor become a little chatterbox yet? It’s so cute when they prattle along and you can’t understand a single word they say but you can tell it’s a great story. HAHA!
Karen says
Hi Kim,
Yes, she is quite the little chatty bunny. She strings long babbling baby sentences together ALL. DAY. LONG. She also has a few phrases that she likes to use, like, “Momma, are you OK?” and “Where’s the cat?” 🙂
Kim says
That is so adorable, I nearly burst! 🙂 The boys always said Mommy and Daddy but, you know, now they’re way too cool for school and have transitioned to Mother and Father. Which sort of cracks me up. I’m always like “most kids your age just say Mom and Dad… just saying”. I love that Connor wants to know if you’re OK, and of course, that she’s wanting to find Tabs. <3
I know you're already probably doing this, but take a ton of videos. It wasn't as easy when the fellas were small and I wish we had more. So I could watch them and simultaneously laugh and cry. Though I'm not sure why that would be appealing to anyone. HAHA!
Jennifer says
Love this story.
I think Connor was trying to say “Dang, mamacita, your eye makeup is bangin’ today!”
Also, as she seems to be growing too fast, I’m wondering when you’re going to let her leave the house with makeup on?
Karen says
Ummm… after she gets accepted into the NASA astronaut training program? That sounds just about right…
Abbey says
What a sweet story. It won’t be long and she will be wanting to share! My three year old always wants me to put lipstick and brow gel (of all things ?) on her before we go places.
Karen says
Hi Abbey,
That is SO CUTE that she wants to wear brow gel! Awww. It’s my mission in life to prevent Connor from plucking her brows. Mine barely came back from the dead after plucking them into oblivion in the ’90s.
I take it your daughter is a girly girl?
