When I hear the phrase, “down to earth,” like the name of these $24 quads from The Body Shop, I think of a day in the not-too-distant future when Captain Connor Claire is hurtling toward Mars in her spaceship, and I’m counting down the seconds till she comes back…down to earth.
OK, no big expectations, Connor. If you don’t want to be on the first manned mission to Mars, that’s OK. The second one would also be fine. 🙂
Seriously, though, I don’t think these have anything to do with astronomy, astrophysics or celestial bodies…. I don’t think they’re that deep. The colors are earthy, as in earth tones, so they’re figuratively down to earth, just like the plants, soil and stones in my front yard. These are shades I love to wear.
These new quads, which are completely new additions to the permanent line, are $24 each, and the way they feel and swatch totally reminds me of pricey Tom Ford. They’re soft, like Tom’s shadows, and have a good amount of pigment, but Tom’s eyeshadows are definitely much more intense.
These blend exceptionally well, but, ironically, because of that…I’m not completely sure what to make of them. They sheer out so much when I buff them down.
Superb blending is sometimes a catch 22, you know? And I think these blend even more easily than LORAC and Urban Decay, which is a double-edged sword, because if you blend them a little too much, you buff away most of the pigment.
The Body Shop Down to Earth Eye Palettes
$24 each and available now in five color combinations at The Body Shop stores and online.“The individual shades all click in and out of the palette casing, so you can switch shades between palettes and quads. Shades come in three different finishes: true mattes, iridescent shimmers and eye-catching sparkles. All the shades can be used dry for easy blending or wet for more intense, vibrant color.”
It’s not a problem if you’re doing really quick looks like the one I’m wearing here, which I did in about five minutes, but if you’re hoping to get these to do more intense, dramatic looks, you’ll have to do lots of layering and watch your blending. Perhaps also pop them atop a cream shadow.
I haven’t done much intense layering with these yet, but I haven’t noticed much fallout, so I don’t think it’ll be a problem.
A new day
Good morning, friend. If you were up late last night following the election, here’s an extra cup of coffee. I’m right there with you…
No matter what side of the fence you were on, it’s a new day. Back to work, back to life, back to friends and family. Back to makeup and cats. 🙂
I’ll talk to you soon.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I like The Body Shop a lot…I have their points card and the amount of free stuff I nab is amazing. They are #1 in my shower/bath…their massage oil is wonderful, so are their room fragrances…
but i pass on their makeup these days only because I need to limit myself and I already have way too much Urban decay! :p
Karen says
I go through phases where I’m all about their bath products. There was a year when all I wanted to use was their Grapefruit body wash, YUM!
Eesha says
These actually look quite nice and I like the sleek and expensive looking packaging. Have a lovely day ahead!
Karen says
Thanks, Eesha. 🙂

Karen,
Thanks for the images of those pretty eye shadow palettes. I don’t need them bit I really needed something to smile at today after last night’s disaster of an election. I can only hope that there will be some serious healing in our country, but I am not too optimistic. At least I can attempt to be excited.
Be well!
Karen says
Hi Jane,
I read something today that resonated with me: “Work harder to be the change you want to see.” The election has given me motivation to help the causes I believe in some way. You take care of yourself too.
P.S. I remembered another thing that might help you sleep. Do you ever listen to audiobooks? There’s a service called Audible, which I use with an app on my iPhone. When I can’t fall asleep, I turn on one of the audio books (ideally a really boring one, LOL!), set a sleep timer (it allows you to do it in different increments), and then I listen to the book in bed in the dark. Usually I fall asleep in about 15 minutes. I don’t use headphones; I just have the book playing quietly (thankfully it doesn’t bother El Hub too much). Anywho, something to think about. I bet Zack could help you get that on your phone as well!

Thanks for the Post Karen, and letting us know you’re right here with us. Yes, I was up late and could not sleep as I felt like my skin had slipped off of me. This is going to take a while to get over recoup and move forward. I wish the feeling across the country was more on par with your website. Your site is a caring, nurturing environment that allows us to express our love of makeup. I love the post and the eyeshadows look lovely.
Karen says
Thank you, Cherie. Sending you a big hug from the Bay Area. ❤️

I like four and five. I’m having issues today myself. I feel wretched and I’m deeply worried. I cried most of the night.

Hi Erin. My daughter was in tears last night . I’m disappointed too! But don’t let anyone take your joy! Love your family and friends . Be kind to your neighbors. Help your community . And keep it moving girl!!
Karen says
That’s good advice Denise. 🙂
Cherie says
I feel beside myself too. Like a lingering anxiety just waiting for something to happen. But you’re not alone and Denise is right. Kindness and love overcomes fear and makes for a much better place. On that note, I send much love from Austin over the internet.
Becky says
These are really pretty! Very TF-a shame they blend out on the sheer side, but I reckon for every day these would be lovely!
Karen says
Hi Becky,
They should hold onto more pigment if you layer a cream shadow underneath. I’m going to try them with some Paint Pots. 🙂
denise S says
I hate to be like the emperor’s new clothes, lol. But I can’t see any eye shadow on you. Swatches look good though.
Karen says
Hi Denise,
This was a super quick look I did in 5 minutes. Normally I wouldn’t even attempt to do shadow but since these sheer out so quickly it makes it easy. 🙂 I was going for a very casual “I’m going to Costco” look.
Tatiana says
These look pretty. The only one that doesn’t really call out to me is #3. I wish there was a Body Shop nearby (as in the closest mall that I can walk to) so I could try them in person first. Guess I’ll have to get in the car and drive.
As long as there isn’t significant fall out, I’m ok with them being somewhat sheer after blending out.
Karen says
I’m feeling 03 because it reminds me of my first Tom Ford quad, Sahara Haze. 🙂 Lucky you that you can walk to the mall. If I had one within walking distance I’d be getting my cardio in on a daily basis, LOL!
P.S. I hope you and your daughter plan on doing some beauty shopping in Paris. Let me live vicariously through you, please.
Tatiana says
Yeah, I see the resemblance to Sahara Haze. One of the few TF quads I didn’t spring for. The other one I missed out on and regret is Cognac Sable and oh yeah, Enchanted.
Not sure what beauty shopping to look for in Paris. We can get almost everything here that’s in France. Maybe some drugstore skincare… If you know of someplace I should check out, let me know.
My trip just got way more expensive overnight. Grrr.
Chelsea says
The plums are gorgeous!
Lots of love to you and yours. I was up way too late last night, and it’s a hard day today.
Kiss & Make-up says
Sorry but… blaaaaaaaaaaaah. So boring. I mean, there is nothing wrong with a good set of neutrals and I do love natural eyeshadow colors, but I just wish they’d do something FUN already.
Savannah says
Yeah, I bought one of these on a whim because they swatched really well. Once on the eyes it was another story, however, and I returned mine because I don’t have time for that haha. But I bought this skunk looking brush from them, and in my opinion it’s amaze balls. Perfect size for my cheeks, and really soft, and makes blending super easy. You should try it!
