It was a quiet morning on our hill today. Nothing really exciting happened, except for some joggers running by, which made a certain someone’s tail poof up…
While Tabs checked out the usual blades of grass, plants and trees, I spent some time thinking about how possessive and jealous Tabs gets now in his older age.
And not just with his humans. He’s also like that with his domain outside. I may or may not have received a Post-It last week asking me to write the city about renaming our hill, “Mt. Saint Tabby,” because Tabs doesn’t like the thought of anybody, and by “anybody,” I mean any other cats, chilling on his hill.
These morning patrols are his definition of “meow time,” because he doesn’t have to compete with anybody else for my attention — not El Hub, the baby, or whatever TJ’s snack would otherwise be making its way to my mouth. When we’re outside, it’s just me and my tabby, the two of us against the world. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Awww….Tabs is so cute! I am currently mediating a terf war between Holly the Housecat and the 3 alley cats who have decided to squat in my backyard. It’s like West Side Story over here, but with less dancing and more hissing.
Karen says
Hi Maritza,
I can imagine that scenario so clearly! Poor Holly Cat. How dare those three kitties intrude on what clearly is her territory?! HOW RUDE.

Time for the two of you is so important. You do have a special boss/employer relationship that could be easily upset by your many responsibilities.
Karen says
Haha, it’s true! Having one-on-one time with the boss is key to a good working kitty/assistant relationship.
Happy Monday!

I always love seeing Tabs on patrol! It’s an important job to keep the neighborhood safe. It warmed up over the weekend so Mingy got some outside time to check out the yard.
Karen says
Oh, hai, Mingy! Did he wear his kitty harness? Or did he roam wild and free?
I know you already know this, but tabby boys are the best. 🙂
Ruchita says
He was on his harness this time. I usually read a book on my phone while he inspects the landscape. Sometimes he gets to roam free, but I still supervise to make sure he doesn’t get too far. He’s pretty good about sticking to the yard. Tabbies rock! I always tell Mingy that stripes are always in style. 🙂
Karen says
Stripes are classic and timeless. 🙂 How old is he now?
Ruchita says
I agree! I have so many striped tops in my closet. 🙂
The vet estimates his age around 9-10. He’s been with us for seven years! I don’t remember the exact day, but it was back in October 2010 when he first started showing up.
Karen says
Tabs is a little older than him then. Aww, they’re like two tabby brothers from another mother, kinda. In my mind they write to each other via email. LOL. That was the first crazy cat lady thing I’ve said today. I’m sure there will be more!
Ruchita says
Haha, they do have lots of similarities in their stories! West Coast and East Coast tabbies rise to the top of the kitty modeling world. 🙂
Kim says
Well, you know, we all tend to get set in our ways and a bit less patient as we get older. Not that Tabs is ageing! Don’t tell him I even hinted at that. 🙂
Karen says
I promise not to. Instead I’ll tell him that you said he didn’t look a day over 5. 🙂
Kim says
You are such a thinker! 🙂 Thank you for keeping me in Tabs’ good graces!
Karen says
Of course. You don’t ever want to get on his bad side, trust me!
Diana says
My tabby Kitty Face is 19 and patrols from the porch now…he said that your Tabs is one cool young man out on his Sunday walk ?
Karen says
Hi Diana,
Aren’t tabby boys the best? They’re mamma’s boys. So, so cuddly and loveable. How did you and Kitty Face meet? Tabs used to live as a street cat near my apartment. One day he walked into my place and never left.
Diana says
Yes they are! Like you, my tabby man found me ☺ He was a street cat that showed up one day (under my porch, I’ve since rescued 29 ferals, they find me lol) with brillo matted hair& a respiratory infection. Love at first sight even though I was a dog person&little afraid of cats (had a mini poodle). Cuddly, toughie with a kitten face stole my heart! I just know Kitty Face&Tabs would be best buds, chatting about us mammas lol I get excited to see Tabs when you post! He is one of a kind, your mbb CEO …
Karen says
He is unlike any kitty I’ve ever known. 🙂 The best kitty I’ve ever known! Funny you should mention that you were a dog person, because I was too before I met Tabs. My husband and I automatically assumed we’d always end up with a dog, but then Tabs came along and convinced us otherwise. He’s probably the most “dog like” cat I’ve ever known! When he was young he’d follow me everywhere. When we lived in the apartment complex he’d follow me to the laundry room, to my car… Once he tried to follow me to brunch across the street. Thank goodness he didn’t.
That’s cool that Kitty Face gets to be a big bro to all the rescue kitties.

How cute is sweet Tabs checking everything out on his summit ! Merry Christmas you little bundle of JOY ❤️❤️
Karen says
Hi Nina,
Merry Christmas to you, too!
Annemarie Harrison says
I love how West Coast and East Coast Tabbys respect each other! If only Rappers got along as well at Tabbys, maybe we would still have TuPac and Biggie with us. (RIP!)
Karen says
Hi Annemarie,
Right? Everyone needs to learn from the tabby cats. They’re so classy!
Happy Monday to you and to Rosie-cat. Where will you guys be spending the holidays?
Sarah Lowes says
Tabs is so handsome and his fur looks in such good condition – is he using some exclusive luxury kitty fur product?
Odin, our Siamese patrols the yard and if another cat dares walk along the top of the wall….There is growling and yowling enough to waken the dead!
Karen says
Hi Sarah,
How’s Odin doing these days? Is he feeling better?
Oh, and Tabs claims that he’s just naturally gorgeous, but I could’ve sworn I saw some Oribe in his bathroom. 🙂
Sarah Lowes says
Odin is running about happily and chasing his sister Freya all over the house but the cardiologist says the latest scan shows his heart is still enlarged in two chambers and he predicts two years max left for him and that his heart could stop at any time.
This is so upsetting because we love him so much and he is such a character and so affectionate. He is on meds and I am still doing his Chinese acupressure points for heart failure each day so I will not give up!
