Face masks!
Homegirl has a face mask addiction, it’s true.
Especially sheet masks, and not just ’cause they give me an excuse to do my best Friday the 13th Jason Voorhees imitation.
Last weekend after lunch with my brother in the city, we stopped by Japan Town to do some shopping and sightseeing, and while I was there I grabbed a few $2 face masks from a store called The Face Shop.
It’s a Korean cosmetics store/brand, and they also sell face and body products. I’d heard of them before but had never visited one of their stores.
I spent way to much time in that place, partly because of all the goodies (it’s not as big as Sephora, but they carry a TON of products), and partly because of the music! The soundtrack they were playing was incredible. It was like a Beyonce CD but, like, in Korean. Amaze-balls.
Back to the masks…
I don’t know what it is about pre-moistened cloth-type masks, but I love ’em. I got addicted to them after I started using the SK-II masks a while back, which are FANTASTIC, by the way, because they leave your skin glowing and hydrated and soft, but they’re also unfortunately hella expensive.
I use an SK-II mask once, or maybe twice a year, and only before a special occasion or a big event (the last time was right before the Emmys last fall). The rest of the year I use whatever I can find that looks good and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
I’d never tried a mask by The Face Shop before, so I grabbed a bunch of different “flavors” while I was there. They were only $2 each.
I ripped open the Olive Oil Mask, which is supposed to be nourishing for extra dry skin, as soon as I got home.
It was a’ight… My skin definitely felt softer and moisturized after using it, but the mask left behind a sticky film, and for me that’s a no-go. You’re not supposed to rinse after using these masks, but I ended up taking off the mask and rinsing my face to remove the excess goo.
I haven’t tried the other masks yet, but I may use one tonight. I’m hopeful that the other ones are a little less gooey. They don’t have to be amazing…but if they’re pretty good, that’ll be great considering the price.
There are a bunch of different varieties available at the stores and The Face Shop website, and they’re all about $2-5 each. Not bad at all if you’re in the mood to try a new mask, and the thought of $2 sounds good.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’ve never tried masks from The Face Shop yet but I’ve really enjoyed ones from Innisfree and Nature Republic. I’ve found that every once in a while these Korean stores will throw in a free mask (or two!) if you make some other kind of purchase – I just got two when I bought a makeup remover this week at The Yeon in NY! Hope you enjoy the others you bought!

I use TFS masks often. The goo leftover is supposed to be pat into your face gently. My trick is to squeeze it in the package after I open it and leave the rest for another time. Then I use it like a serum or essence in my night routine. Karen, I enjoy the fact that you try new stuff all the time and don’t hold back your opinions of them!

My go-to sheet masks are Hada Labo Tokyo Ultimate Anti Aging masks, I get ’em at Ulta or Walgreens. So good, my skin is dewy and plump after. There’s usually some serum left in the packet that I use over the next few days.
I’m so curious about the magic SK-II masks!

I loved me a little tabs in the corner of the mask pic!

The Face Shop?? Japan Town has the BEST places. And the best thing – I’m going to go there in two weeks!!!!!! So excited to visit my hometown.

I’ve only tried sheet masks a few times and I adore them! This gives me an incentive to look for & pick up some more next time I visit the Korean market. Which is not local. I live in such a blandly Caucasian area; in a few square miles, we have 3 Subway shops, 4 Starbucks, 2 Burger Kings, a full dozen pizza joints, and ZERO Thai restaurants. Sorry, sorry, rant over…but seriously loving the masks & your reviews!

Ha! The one and only time I tried a mask like that, I fell asleep with it on for a couple of hours and it made my face break out. *^_^* I have another one from a different company but I’m scared to try it!

Sheet masks seem to be all the rage in Korea, being incorporated into your routine a few times a week. And yeah, as someone above posted, you are supposed to pat in the excess to get the maximum effect.
Really want to try some!

That’s a steal indeed. I wouldn’t mind giving the Q10 mask a try. And the green tea one. Oh and the shea one. Ah blast it, just hand ’em all over.

I am stocked up on sheet masks since I a) went a little crazy in Singapore and b) recently won a giveaway including sheet masks. I could use them quite excessively, but my husband always dies of laughter when he sees me wearing one.

I go to k-town and stock up, they run from .99 to $4. I almost got some at Sephora but those suckers were $8 to $10!

Loved seeing tabs in the sheet mask photo. I do read other blogs but yours is the only one that makes me smile.

$2USD?!?!?! Here in Costa Rica those masks are at $10USD and give me horrible rashes. IDK I just decided I’d stick with my european beauty brands, I’ve tried several Korean and Japanese brands and found them way too harsh for my face skin which not only has freckles and moles but happens to be as pale as milk and any redness or anomaly will surely be noticed from 5miles away.
