Blunt ends or layers? OK, so, I’ve totally done both at different stages in my hair life, and I’ve learned that if I want something easy and low maintenance, which I almost always do, it’s layers all the way, man.
Blunt ends give me so much grief! When I have long-ish hair with blunt ends and no layering, it doesn’t have any movement, so it lays heavy and flat and looks like a stiff stage curtain. And it FEELS heavy, too, like I’m carrying around five extra pounds of hair.
Oh, and don’t get me started on short blunt cuts. I had shoulder-length hair with blunt ends once when I was about 12, and my hair did that thing where the bottom puffs out into a triangle shape, so basically I walked around looking like the Great Sphinx of Giza.
I really didn’t have any idea what to do with my hair until I was in my early 20s, which was when I finally clicked with a good stylist.
How about you? For your hair, do you prefer blunt ends or layers?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Layers with a blunt end at the bottom layer!

Well, layers certainly give my thick straight hair movement but it also means my hair has a tendency to dry in weird sticky-out chunks because I don’t have the patience to use a hairdryer. I’m currently growing out layers my stylist did a few months ago & I’ll be sticking to my blunt-cut bob with bangs. It’s easy to style & I decided that it’ll be my signature look.

Layers for life!!!
I had to move 5 years ago and I’ve been grieving my former stylist because I can’t find anyone in my “new” city to give me my shaggy layers.

Your Sphinx comment made me snort and I’m not kidding! I’ve been there myself because I’m really only lacking volume at the crown. So, rather than the Sphinx, my curl wave made me look like a Cocker Spaniel (with the straight hair on the head and curly hair on the big, floppy ears). 🙂
I always opt for layers these days. Even though my hair isn’t thick, I like the volume!

Layers all the way! I really suck at styling my hair (I mean, really) and layers help creating movement without me having to do anything. In fact, most days I don’t do anything – so I really need structured layers.

Your hair looks beautiful!

Definitely layers for me! My hair is fine in texture so I find layers add a bit more texture and volume.

I always get layers but I think the next time I get a hair cut I want blunt ends. I like layers for texture but blunt ends may also give off this more sophisticated look.
LindaLibraLoca says
Layers.
My hair is so fine it would just be flat without them. And I almost never do anything to my hair, because I wear it up at work anyway, so I need the layers to make it look presentable once I let my hair down.

I’ve got wavy/curly hair, so without layers I too become the Sphinx lol. But I do sometimes look with envy at girls with gorgeous straight blunt cuts. We so often want what we don’t have!

Layers. When I was in high school the big thing was to have spiral perms which I had at one time. I always wanted to have curly hair because my hair was as straight as a stick. Now that I’m older my hair is wavy so a blunt cut looks weird.

Team Layers. I have fine textured hair. You can’t believe everything you read on the Internet. I’ve read that blunt cuts are good for fine hair because they provide the illusion of more fullness. Well, I tried it, and it failed. My hair fell flat and I hated every day of it. I wish more stylists would be real and up front about what looks good with an individual’s face shape. My face isn’t as round and full as it was in my 20s, and my current stylist made me realize that I look better with layers and fullness around my face.
Blunt cuts look beautiful on women with naturally straight hair. It looks good on Jessica Alba (but then again, what doesn’t!)

I have fine wavy hair and a lot of it! I need layers! Not a ton but some.
Cyndi says
Layers and texture for me! I have short hair and it’s the only way I can get any volume in my limp, flat hair.
Iris says
It’s been layers for me ever since my early 20’s.
Pamela Haddad says
Love layers, but I’m lame when it comes to styling. I feel like I do the same things all the time. Plus, my fine hair is weird and doesn’t always cooperate. Your hair looks great, btw.
Pamela Haddad says
Too bad Sephora doesn’t have a class for that! = )
Kiss & Make-up says
Layers don’t look good on me. Been there, done that & hated it. That said, I don’t know what DOES work on me either. I have very boring hair and since it’s so fragile I can’t really afford to experiment a lot…

Layers!!!
Sissi says
Layers for me too. I do them even myself and find I am better at this then any salon I ever went. I just know my hair better I guess. Also: why do they cut always when wet. They need to see how the hair layers when dry and cut! My two cents! 😉
Rachel R. says
Layers for sure. My hair is so fine, it needs all the help it can get.
