I’m chalking up my spur-of-the-moment decision to get $40 YSL Touche Eclat to temporary insanity.
I know a lot of women swear by the stuff — a versatile liquid face product (available in four shades) designed to work as a concealer, highlighter, eyeshadow base and even a lip primer — but when I tried it for the first time years ago, I wasn’t wowed.
“I’m older and wiser now,” I thought. “Maybe I should give it another try.”
Like Mulder from the X-Files, I REALLY wanted to believe. The product’s so popular that the company says they sell one every 20 seconds worldwide!

YSL Touche Eclat: Reloaded
Two swipes beneath my eyes and a few blending strokes later, and my under-eye area looked no less frightening than it did before Touche touched me. 🙁
I bought it primarily to conceal my dark circles, and in that regard I’m sorry to say Touche Eclat just doesn’t work for me at all. I’m so disappointed, in fact, that I can’t bring myself to try the product in other ways. This guy’s going back to Sephora soon… Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: C-
I would have given it an even lower grade, but I haven’t fairly used the product in ways other than as a concealer. What’s been your experience with YSL Touche Eclat? Does it work well for you, and how do you use it (as a concealer, highlighter, eyeshadow base and/or lip primer)? HELP!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Caroline says
Hi Karen,
I thought it was supposed to ‘lighten’ the under eye area and not conceal? I haven’t tried it myself, have not yet have the urge 😉
Karen says
Hi Caroline,
It lightens up the under eye area, but some people also use it as a straight up concealer.
Kelli says
I use my touche eclat ALL the time! I love it! I’m a shade 03 also but I’ve never used it on its own. I layer the touche eclat over my Bobbi Brown corrector and the two of them together work wonders for my under eye circles!!
Thincspot says
I was advised by an YSL MA that the best way to use Touche Eclat was as a spot base/brightener under concealer or foundation. I am an NC 44-45 and I find that using it under foundation in winter just helps to (add light?) to certain areas. I’ve recently starting using Guerlain’s version of this (Terracotta Touch Glow Enhancing Perfector) in the darkest shade and I actually use it under my YSL Anti Cernes concealer. It helps my concealer stay put and it does “brighten” the area more so that I look “fresher” as opposed to just unblemished. Hope that helps!
Karen says
That’s good to know, Thincspot! Thank you. 🙂
Alexzandra says
Can the Terracotta Touch Glow also be worn on it’s own for light coverage/illumination, or does it really only work under other concealers?
Thincspot says
It can be used as an independent illuminator/concealer but the intensity of coverage would be more subtle than an actual concealer. With my NC 44 coloring, I find it brightens but also causes me to have a grayish overcast since these products tend to be slightly on the pink side and I am a very yellow undertone. I find it great for highlighting above the eyebrow, cupid’s bow, upper cheek areas and along the bridge of the nose. It is slightly different than using a powder highlighter because it has less shimmer.
LC says
Hi, Karen. YSL’s Touche Eclat is supposed to “brighten” under-eye circles, but I really just think it’s an unnecessary extra step. Why do I want to use a cover-up under my eyes, and then add another product on top to “brighten”? Mornings are hectic as it is! Granted, I need all the help I can get to cover up dark circles, but this product just doesn’t blow me away on the “brightening” factor.
I’m totally loving your pics of Tabs, by the way. =)
Karen says
Hi LC,
I hear ya. Some women truly love this stuff though! Le sigh…
Anywho, Tabs! He makes it easy to take a good shot. 🙂
Nina says
Thank you for the review! Im so glad you did this because I almost got this …. now I know I shouldnt!
TimeBalm is still it for me! 😀
Karen says
Speaking of the Balm, I’m still lusting after the new TimeBalm liquid spot concealer.
http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P261405&categoryId=C16430
Want!
Nina says
I want that too, I just cant justify buying it at the moment because I got 2 TB concealers – one in Mid Medium (for the summer) and one in Light Medium (for the winter). Silly of me! 😀
Moll-Doll says
Time Balm is the reason I found this site! I ordered the mid-medium and it’s just too deep for me (giving it to my super tan pal to try); but have ordered the med-light. Still waiting to get it, but even the too dark one works great! No cakey look. It seems to me the whole ‘light’ thing can look really engineered instead of blending/hiding circles and allowing the actual eyes to be the scene stealer.
Kayann says
I don’t think I would put $40 down on concealer!! I’m cheap.
Speaking of X-Files, there is an all day marathon on SciFi!! My DVR is a working!! 🙂
Karen says
I hope you record the ep where that shapeshifter guy morphs into Mulder and almost makes out with Scully!
And, as much as it totally grosses me out, the one with the inbred family that keeps their mom hidden beneath the bed!
Erin M says
Karen,
The inbred family one is still the creepiest one EVER! I remember that one like I watched it yesterday. It was the best/worst episode I ever watched.
Kim says
Karen, no kidding… my very fav ep is with the Mulder-morpher! I always wanted those two to get together, but was pretty disappointed when they did in the movie. Funny how that works!
Marian says
Karen….if you like the idea of Touche Eclat, try Chanel’s concealer in the pen with the brush. I’ve tried every concealer around and I swear, this one’s the bomb! It’s in the pen thingy too. The formula is light weight and blends well. I’ve never really been pleased with any other concealer.
Karen says
Hi Marian,
That sounds interesting. Do you think it would work on very circles? Cause mine are pretty dark!
dani@callitbeauty says
yeah, i’d probably pass on this if all it does is “brighten” under-eye circles. i need something more hardcore than that!
Karen says
Me too! What are you currently using?
Melissa W. says
I’ve never tried this as my undereye area don’t just need lightening, it pretty much needs some spackle. I have been blessed with hardcore dark circles, oh well.
Karen says
Sounds like we are in the same boat. What concealer are you using right now?
Melissa W. says
I’m currently using Maybelline Mineral Power liquid concealer (surprisingly good for a drugstore concealer) and Everyday Minerals foundation over that. This combo looks okay, better than many things things that I’ve tried. I’m always looking for a better concealer though.
I want to try Time Balm next. 🙂
Katrina says
Ouch, I will def pass on this one! I have epic dark circles, I need to conceal those babies like no tomorrow.
Karen says
Hi Katrina,
Have you tried the Balm’s Time Balm? It’s really great for heavy duty dark circles.
Lindsay says
I think you’re blending it out a little too much. Personally, I love this stuff.
Karen says
I don’t think I did, but I’m glad to hear it works for you!
Anne says
hello karen,
sorry to read that the holy grail of all concealers doesn’t work for you 🙁
i tried clinique’s line smoothing concealer a few days ago & was completely stunned by how well it concealed & how…err…wrinkle-&-line-less my under-eye-area looked – in fact, i was positively frightened^^ haven’t had such a smooth eye-area since i was about 17^^ perhaps this might be worth a try?
finally-done-working-greetings from an evening-sunny germany,
anne
Karen says
Hi Anne,
That looks really promising. Do you think it might be good for a dry under-eye area?
Thincspot says
Oh, I have to agree, this is my second HG concealer. It really does conceal well for such a blendable product. It also made my lines less noticeable than other concealers tend to (less crease migration). I love this stuff because the amount of yellow in there colors really balances out the darkness under my eyes. I wear Deep Honey with my MAC NC 44.
Anne says
hello karen,
i have only worn it for a couple of hours so i can’t really tell. got a free day tomorrow, so i’ll make a quick stop at my local drug store in the morning, apply it and will let you know in the evening 🙂
middle-of-the-night-greetings from germany,
anne
Anne says
it’s me again 🙂 i tried the fine line concealer today instead of yesterday & have to say: no dry under-eye area (i applied my usual eye cream before putting it on)! the oh-my-gosh-where-have-my-lines-gone-look vanished a bit throughout the day, but it still conceals very well, i didn’t feel the need to reapply any other concealer. it was pretty hot today & it didn’t sweat off, my mascara likes it (didn’t migrate downwards panda-style) & i think it’s about time i finally buy me one – unfortunately it’s sunday, so i’ll have to wait until tomorrow^^
have a happy weekend ~^..^~
Vanessa H says
Sad day, I didn’t like the consistency when I swatched it at my counter. It’s probably better that way, $40 is a A LOT to pay for a little concealer pen. I’ll stick to my Time Balm concealer with a little bit of Stila’s Kitten on the inner corners of my eyes to brighten them up.
BTW, the picture of Tabs with the Snookie poof made me laugh out loud at my desk here at work! That cat is so talented lol!
Kymberlee says
I’m a fan of Time Balm also! I haven’t found anything better so far.
Karen says
He also wants to try on Pauly D’s blowout next. 🙂
Arianne says
Hey Karen,
I have never tried Touche Eclat myself (I’m too cheap!) but for a drugstore alternative for moderate dark circles, Neutrogena has a similar concealer in a click pen format. I think it was $10-$12 when I picked it up at Target. Might be worth a shot?
Karen says
I haven’t tried the Neutrogena too, but I’ll give it a looksy next time I’m at the drugstore.
Do you guys get Milani? They also make one too.
Keener says
I wouldn’t mind brightening my eyes a bit, because I don’t use concealer everyday, but 40 bones ain’t winning me over.
Question: Do you guys usually return a make-up product if you don’t like it? I’ve never done it or even thought about it. Figured once you swiped whatever it is, it’s yours to keep.
Kymberlee says
I have but only to Sephora. Someone got me the wrong shade of concealer and I tried to make it work even though it was wayyy too dark. I called up Sephora and asked if I could exchange it even though I’d tried it and didn’t have the receipt. They said no problem! I didn’t expect that at all.
Karen says
I do all the time. I shop specifically at stores with good return policies — Nordstrom and Sephora — so I know I can take it back if it doesn’t work for me.
Sarah says
I was totally considering picking this up but now I’ve changed my mind. You’d think that a $40 product would do what it’s suppose to right?
Karen says
Some people really, really love the stuff, so you might still want to try it! You never know…
Beril says
Clinique has a very similar product, but is advertised as a concealer..I have both touché eclat and the clinique one, I am nc20 and have super bad dark circles (im only 21! :(( ) and I find myself reaching for the clinique one more. Its in the same clicky pen.
Karen says
Hi Beril,
If your dark circles are very bad you might want to check out the Bobbi Brown Color Correctors. They are great for canceling out under-eye darkness.
Diana says
Haven’t tried Bobbi Brown, but I did try Eve Pearl Salmon Concealer in both Medium and Tan (I’m NC 37), but yuck! That stuff moved around under my eyes like it had legs creased horribly, even after it was set with powder. I have heard people rave about the salmon concealers being their HG, but this stuff did not work at all and it was like $40!
snoopysteph says
I’ve been using that one too for years (it’s called Airbrush Concealer) but for me (nw20) it’s definitely more brightener/highlighter than concealer. I love it, but not as a concealer for dark circles. That’s why I’ve never been tempted to buy Touche.
Tina says
YSL Touche shows up too pale on my NC42 skin, even with the darker shades. Who wants reverse dark circles?! Its pretty dry as well. Not worth the cash IMHO. Giivenchy Mister Light worked better on me-much creamier and illuminating
Karen says
I don’t want reverse dry circles either, LOL!
Which color did you try, 3 or 4?
Tina says
#3…It was still too light and chalky
gio says
Thanks for the review, you just killed my lemming. I’ve always wanting to try it but the price was putting me off and now I’m glad I didn’t. I have very bad dark circles and I need something that covers them well so this is definitely not for me.
Karen says
Hi Gio,
What are you using right now? Do you like it?
gio says
Hi Karen, at the moment I’m alternating between Benefit Erase Paste, which conceales my dark cirlces quite well while brightening the eye area too but I’m not fond of its thick consistency, and Max Factor Erace concealer. That one is good at concealing dark circles and blemishes too, but the color selection isn’t the best so I’m still looking for my HG concealer.
Alex says
Thanks so much for this review! I always wanted to try this but I was too scared by the price tag.
Karen says
Hi Alex,
You’re welcome. What concealer are you using right now? Do you like it?
Barbara V says
Hi Karen,
It’s so funny – touche eclait is a desert island product for me – I wouldn’t be caught dead w/out it. But I don’t consider it as a concealer at all – I use it to brighen areas of my face and I use it in a specific way. I don’t use it at all during my normal morning makeup extravaganza, but I keep it in my purse. Before I get to work I look in the mirror in my car and dab it wherever I have “dark shadows” – usually the inside corner of my eye, above my eyebrows, and in a > around my mouth. It also comes in handy if my lipstick goes a little outside my lip line. I’ll wipe it off with my finger and use TE to erase any lingering color. I have a litght skin tone.
Barbara
Trisha says
I wonder if the main reason it sells so much is because of the YSL brand. Fancy stuff seems to sell more just based on the name alone.
Too bad it didn’t work!
Karen says
I gotta say YSL does make some holy grail worthy things. Their Faux Cils mascara is the bomb.com!
Pol says
A make-up artist used this concealer on myself and two of my other friends. Not the same shade of course as we all have different very skin tones but while it worked brilliantly on myself and my one girlfriend it nothing for the other one 🙁
My guess was that friend it didn’t work for came from a family where dark circles tend to be hereditary and her skin type was very different to ours.
It’s really expensive though, I prefer to spend money on a good eye treatment, prevention is better than cure! (Have you tried the Dr Hauschka range eye-masks? I love my Clarins eye-gel too) Also some people’s dark eye circles are signs of digestive disturbance from food intolerance… might be worth checking out?
Though you look amazing, I would never have guessed you have troubled skin or dark circles!
Kelly says
I bought it for $20 off Ebay to try since I’d heard it was the “Holy Grail” for dark circles. Like you, it did nothing for me, so I gave it to a friend who uses it as a highlighter. I was also extremely disappointed.
Karley @ Chic & Green says
I had a not so stellar experience with this as well. I had high hopes. I would really recommend Aussie Perk Me Up by Everyday Minerals. You can use it with a concealer brush and it will do what I expected the YSL to do. It also makes for a great highlighter–but works great on the circles.
Alison says
Ugh, can I just say how much I hate those brush-pen things! It’s so hard to know if you’re dispensing the right amount of product, and if you get too much product on the brush and don’t use it all, it just gets all over the inside of the cap when you close it up. Sooo frustrating!
Marina says
I like this stuff a lot for what it’s supposed to do and delivers – it brightens up my skin. I use it on the under-eye area, the bridge of my nose, nasolabial folds and around the corners of my mouth.
But it can’t cover any real dark areas or acne spots or stuff like that. If you’re looking for a light but good coverage concealer, i recommend Helena Rubinstein’s Magic Concealer. The thing IS magic! Plus the tube is 15 ml (that’s 0.5 ounces i believe?) which goes a long long way.
Jasmine says
The best undereye concealer I’ve used are simply greasy foundations. Or Colorstay mixed with heavy eye cream over a siliconey primer (to fill in the lines). Or BB creams (based in Singapore here!). … Touche Eclat? Nope, not even lusting, and I have REALLY HORRID EYEBAGS.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_PqiBa3goTJ8/TFhrGXjR8UI/AAAAAAAAALo/96-Oz5EMBSU/s320/bb+as+eye+concealer.jpg
It’s probably a little late on my part here but did you try putting it before (under) foundation? Or maybe after? Or only on the dark parts? Hmm? But I’m sure you tried it all, great blogger as you are. 🙂
Kristine says
Hi Karen,
I feel the same way about the Touche Eclat for dark undereye circles… I think it works pretty well as a face highlighter though.. have you tried it as a highlighter on the face? It kinda give a brighter, but very natural and subtle way to accentuate features.. like down the nose, on the cheek bones, etc. that’s how I used up mine and I did not repurchase, lol.
When I tried to build up the coverage under my eyes.. it made me look like I got a sunglass tan cause the area around my eyes were so white and unnatural looking LOL.
Diana says
Karen…LOL! Was it so bad you couldn’t show a whole face shot? I was thinking about trying it for my dark circles too. Not anymore! When you find a full coverage concealer that covers like nobody’s business, doesn’t look cakey and doesn’t crease…POST IT! I’ve been using Sonia Kashuk Secret Concealer Palette for almost a month, because I just can’t bear to spend money on concealer that isn’t HG status. It works pretty well. It’s a cream but it isn’t ashy looking & it doesn’t crease. If your circles are super dark, it may not work well for you. I love that you can mix the shades together though.
Kristen says
I heard this works wonders for aged skin. My aunt, who’s in her mid-50s, swears by this as it doesn’t make her undereye area look crepey, doesn’t settle into fine lines, and reflects light. I personally have had no luck with it, though…I have no issues with lines yet (thank goodness!), so I too only need it as a concealer, and it didn’t cover up dark circles or blemishes for me.
Deepa Berar says
Hey Karen, have you tried it on top of your regular concealer to see if it works really well as a brightener? Might be worth a shot..
Jessica B says
Whenever my family and I go on vacation, they always think I take forever to get ready. I’ll be honest I take 25 to 30 minutes on applying makeup and will spend 10 on my hair. I was wondering how much time it takes you to get ready in the morning?
Thanks.
ace says
im far too cheap to buy this, but i had been considering it for a while! my dark circles are ridiculous, even though i SWEAR i get a good nights sleep! im currently using urban decays surreal skin concealer and i really like it, although i could do with a bit more coverage…
chiffonrobot says
I’ve never tried to use it to cover up my super dark under eye circles (lately I’ve been liking Benefit Erase Paste for that), but I really like to use it under my brows and a bit on my cheekbones as a highlight. It’s a nice way brighten up my face and eye area without frosty, unnatural looking shimmer. Is it worth $40? I don’t know. I does get plenty of use though, and I throw it in my bag all the time.
Also, the website for YSL Beauty has some useful videos. I wouldn’t have figured out what to do with it otherwise: http://www.yslbeautyus.com/YSL-Beaute-Videos/YSL-Beaute-Radiance-Essentials.html
Nina says
Hi Karen,
Have you heard of Amazing Concealer? It is pretty much good stuff. And also, once I watched a video which the MUA put Touché Eclat wherever he wants to brighten up on the model’s face; under eyes, sides of nose, right above and right below brows, chin, apples of cheeks and bridge of nose, basically he used it as a normal face highlighter. Maybe that works for you too.
kelly jo says
Hey Karen,
I never tried the YSL touche, but I did try the Givenchy Mister Light and L.O.V.E love it. Seriously. I’ve had crazy problems with dark circles, too (genetics, stress, always tired!) and have found this is really good for me. However, part of my problem has been the blue undertones of my skin (sorry I don’t know my N number like many of these other girls do!)…so maybe that’s what makes the difference for me (I use Shade 1 – Mr. Meringue (sp!?)). I think it’s really blendable and truly does lighten the area while providing good coverage. It’s $32, so a little cheaper, but still expensive. Plus, my man even noticed the difference when I started using it…so that’s gotta be something!
-kel
ps – Sephora’s return policy is AWESOME. i keep wondering if they’ll institute some sort of lifetime return limit on me personally though! LOL!
veronica says
I back this fully as well. Givenchy’s Mr. Light is totally awesome. Karen, give this one a shot next time! I can’t leave the house without it on now.
Moll-Doll says
interesting…how does it last? More description please! 😉
Twetriz says
I have never tried this one either, I have trouble getting a good shade for me. I don’t use often, my skin is usually even. Only that Grrrrr… time a month, I usually get dark circles. I am yet to find a shade and brand that pleases me.
Macarena says
Totally understand your frustration 🙁
YSL seems not to care about ethnic skin tones and that’s the main problem with this product.
I’ve used it hundreds of time on clients with lighter skintones and it really works wonders as they say but when it comes to deeper undertones…it just doesn’t work and it actually looks pretty bad and ashy.
I’d highly recommend Bobbi Brown’s concealers (my faves), Laura Mercier and Eve Pearl (she came out with a series of “salmon” concealers that are to die for and are absolutely flawless)
Don’t be discouraged my friend! There’s still hope…and plenty of it 🙂 lol!
XOXO
Macarena
Ashley says
I wonder how one of these babies sells ever 20 seconds. I mean… it’s not cheap & not a lot people can afford it, so is someone rich buying it every 20 seconds to hype the product for YSL??
Andreea says
…that is what we call a self-fulfilling prophecy *lol*
Christin says
i splurged and bought this one too…it doesn’t conceal. i’m sure it brightens but im pasty enough as it is 😛 but i will try it out as a primer didnt know before. 🙂
Kharina says
Hi Karen, love your reviews. Touche Eclat has never really impressed me in the ways of concealing, however, I have heard that the Airbrush Concealer wand they have via Clinique is good stuff, but I swear by By Terry’s Touche Veloute – more expensive than YSL, but bigger, denser pigments so it actually conceals, highlights AND moisturises. This stuff is so good and natural looking I almost end up using it as a foundation, which is an expensive idea. 😀
Tiffany says
After hearing/reading all the rave reviews, I tried this and it did NOTHING for me!! I hated I spent so much money on it…but, oh well. The best concealer I’ve found so far is Erase Paste by Benefit. My undereye circles are ridiculously dark, and it really helps!
annie says
I like it on top of regular concealer, but on its own? No match for these Uncle Fester circles. I used to buy it, but then I had one pen go bad within a month — got a weird (perhaps moldy?) smell that didn’t seem quite right. And the price kept going up, too, so now I just use Maybelline Age Rewind concealer/brightener around my eyes and get very similar results.
Baba says
Ditto — I think you can use it AFTER a regular concealer to brighten — but, it didn’t do much for me. It’s been 6 years now, and it still sits in the drawer looking pretty from the outside.
Lauren says
Estee Lauder’s Ideal Light concealer brightens up under the eyes and is a great and better alternative to YSL. Plus it’s only $23
Carol says
You know that Tabs kind of looks like Bristol Palin in his photo today. 🙂
Alexandra says
Actually, this product is one of my favourites. Maybe because I don’t have a real problem with dark circles, so I love this soft velvety touch that really brightens the eyes, but at the same time does not feel and appear heavy at all. And because the consistency is not thick, it doesn’t go inside those little fine lines around the eyes too. I also love the pinkish shade! I have recommended it to all my friends, who afterwards had to thank me, and introduced it themselves to others…
Schelli says
I like touch eclat as a brightener OVER my regular concealer on bad days. on really good days I use it byitself and its good. I also like it as a highlighter on my brow bone. but different products for different people 🙂
Alexzandra says
I’m beginning to think that not all the Touche Eclat shades are created equal. The shade I use is #4 and it’s a lot more opaque than #3 appears to be and I wouldn’t really say it works as a luminizer (I use mine to hide circles from allergies), whereas the lightest shades seem to work as face brighteners/ highlighters. I really like these pen-type concealers, but so far the YSL seems to be the only one that looks natural on me (I’m about an NC 45). I kinda want to check out the Terracotta Touch Glow now though 🙂
Melinda says
It doesn’t really conceal unless you have minor under eye circles. It’s amazing at lightening the under eye area and highlighting your face. I use it on the cupids bow, nose, under eye area, and brow bone, and it really brightens my face. It’s an amazing product.
Nicole says
Try Givenchy’s Instant Light Corrective Pen.
Diane K. says
The reson why some people are disappointed with this product is because they think it is a concealer and when they doen’t get good results as a concealer, they pan the product. This product is not and never was meant to be a concealer. YSL repeatedly states that. It is an illuminator only, to shade the face. And as an illuminator, it is the best.
Paris B says
I bought this primarily to use to lighten undereye circles, as everyone has pointed out. Works decently BUT stinks after just a very short while. I could not get past the stink and binned it. Here’s my review. Try the Dior Skinflash pen. I’m using it now, and it conceals AND highlights which is great! 🙂
Sylvie says
If I’m not wrong, I think you’re supposed to use your regular concealer and then dot the Touche Eclat on top of it. I think it’s too sheer to be a proper concealer. If you remember Studio Lights from MAC, it’s the same concept.
JenniferZ says
I get the best use out of Touche Eclat by using it as a brightener under my undereye concealer (usually Estee Lauder Double Wear). I keep things pretty minimal for my everyday makeup, but this extra step actually makes a visible difference for me. I think it makes my concealer go on more smoothly, too. You should give it a try, Karen!
Alice says
I don’t use YSL Touche Eclat as it looks awfully pink on my olive complexion… I had the same wand, only by Dior, and I could easily use it as a concealer, but that’s because my “dark circles” are almost non-existant, so a brightener is enoung to hide them!!!
[don’t envy me cause I have no dark circle, when I’m tired my eyes get so puffy that I look like a frog!]
Maya says
Hi Karen,
Too bad it didnt work out for you. Ive finished mine up and I have to say its the best concealer Ive ever used! Never knew it could be used as highlighter, lip primer and stuff. Will try that with the next one I get.
knownever says
the only person i know who swears by this stuff doesn’t use it as under eye concealer. she does a variety of things that I don’t understand with it. like swiping it on seemingly random parts of her face like around her nose and cupid’s bow. I assume as a highlighter. I’m unsure why people can be so in love with such an expensive product that fullfills such an ancillary need.
Deb says
I was thinking about buying this, but ugh, now I don’t think I can. You sound so disappointed! So I guess this isn’t THE ONE then…
beautylogicblog says
ever since you introduced me to the balm concealer, I’ve only used my touche eclat to highlight. The balm is amazing.
Kristi says
The YSL Touche Eclat is best used for brightening and for those with very light undereye circles. The person at the YSL counter told me it is meant to be used as a brightener, not a concealor. My thought process is…why bother then? It works wonderfully for me because I am fortunate not to have dark cirles. I notice a BIG difference when I use it and blend with a brush. I use it in the afternoons and I look like I just took a nap! I also use it on the “marrionette lines” around the mouth to soften them. Another trick I saw used was to swipe a litte on the part of the cheekbone under the outer corner of the eye to the temple them blend. It gives a little lift without settling into fine lines! Another tip: treat the brush of your Touche Eclat like any other and clean it, othewise the product will not come out correctly and will have an unpleasant smell. (gross but true!) Hope this helps a little for those that are intent on having their Touche!
PS says
Hi! I too heard great things about this product and went ahead and bought it. I have dark circles because I have difficulty sleeping at night. 🙁 It’s true if you use it alone it just doesn’t have much staying power or have enough coverage for undereyes. HOWEVER, if you moisturize first, then put just a little of “Stay Don’t Stray” by benefit under your eyes & then YSL Touche Eclat then it looks awesome and stays for some time. I also use it as a highlighter (over light weight foundation such as smashbox high def helath FX foundation, BTW I love this product too) on the outsides of my nose to the outside area of my mouth as a highligher and then the outside of the lips, above the lip (cupids bow?) and below the lip (it knocks off about 5 years off your face). To set everything (I have REALLY oily skin) I use “All Nighter” by Urban Decay (this stuff rocks and does not make you break out at all!). Expensive products, but I think the make-up looks nice. Just wish that it would last ALL day at work without touch ups, but by using the above techniques, I don’t have to touch up as often. Hope this helps.

Touche Eclat just doesnt work for me either. I have tried it again and again hoping to see the wonderful effects that it is supposed to provide. But this product has never worked for me.

bobby brown creamy under eye concealer – the only product you need.

I tried Touche Eclat for my under eye circles, and was amazed how little difference it made, so I gave up using it. It set the bar really low as far as under eye coverage was concerned, so I lost interest in using product to cover them up for a while – its reassuring to hear other people have had this experience.

I’m really sorry to hear that for many people it actually doesn’t work. To be honest: I had a hard time buying it. I always wanted to, but then I was like: What the ?! It’s 2,5 ml (0.1 oz) and you pay like 34€?? What’s wrong with you? I’ve been using Mac’s studio finish and pro longwear concealer and never had a hard time with them. I was always happy. But then some kind of show (“Cinderella Project”) was on tv, I watched it, one was swearing by YSL touche eclat. I had to go buy a perfume for my friend’s birthday and got a chubby stick by Clinique. I was looking at the touche eclat, always wondering if it really was that good. I asked the YSL Counter woman to try it out, we did. I was amazed. Great light-reflecting pigments. What happened? I DID buy it. I still feel a little bad. I just bought the chanel bronze universel creme bronzer and the chanel vitalumiere aqua which are my first chanel products. But it didn’t feel as bad as knowing that the Chanel foundation was 40,95€ for 30 ml and the touche eclat 2.5 ml and 34€. See?! I usually use Mac, so it was a little different for me, too! But having the touche eclat made such a difference! I always thought I had bad under-eye circles, but obviously I don’t. I can use it straight as a concealer and it brightens up the cheek bones, bridge of my nose, mouth area, “nose corners”. My mac ones are still awesome, but the touche eclat, to me at least, makes a huge difference and I’m glad I bought still. I’m still a little upset about the price… When I was at the YSL counter I wanted to find some kind of dupe. She said that there actually isn’t one but she introduced me to the dior concealer. Same way, you only twist this thing! It wasn’t anything like that and it was a lot more sticky which I didn’t like. Worse quality than touche eclat, for me at least. But that was 8 (or 9) ml for 35,50€. Well, I know it is expensive, it’s a high-end product. The counter-lady said that so many people buy and swear by it. And she told me it lasts all day, no moving, no touch up necessary and that the product itself might last around 3-4 months, depending on how much you need, but the usual amount will take up to 3 months, if you don’t need much, maybe 4. Right now I am quite happy with it, like it a lot. It looks natural, especially when combined with the vitalumiere aqua foundation by chanel. Still it’s highly expensive but I might consider getting another one when it’s empty.

I loved this product & others like it. We older women love it because it is magic when used in the groove of a wrinkle to illuminate & thus make the wrinkle or labial folds around the mouth appear less deep & overall less noticeable . The brush applicator is also great to deal w/ broken capillaries or redness under & around the nostril area. I use it in a scar to make it less noticeable . It also helps w/ brightenig dark circle particularly when used in conjunction w/ a concealer.
